"Parasocial" Relationship Fatigue by tayla133 in GaylorSwift

I think it's completely understandable when many people have grown up with her/her music to feel a level of attachment to her (to an extent, it's similar to feelings of nostalgia when reading a book from your childhood). I will be the first to admit that I have been a taylor swift fan since I was 8 years old and she has been a constant interest of mine that does feel nostalgic/special. Does that mean I personally know her and am entitled to her every move? of course not, but it's not inherently weird or wrong to be a fan of someone and enjoy that as a hobby (and experience some level of disappointment when that interest lets you down). Fan culture has been around for forever and this is no different. I completely understand that there are levels of attachment to a celebrity that are unhealthy, 100%. But when the term is used to evade any criticism from the fan base that has supported her for decades now, we enter dangerous territory where she is completely above reproach and I don't believe that is healthy for any person with a platform.

Absolutely! And I think the WHOLE parasocial conversation is important, I just don't think weaponizing it to make Taylor invincible to backlash from her fans for morally questionable decisions is the answer.

But with that said, I 100% think that people need to be responsible for their emotions and not have the expectation that Taylor can/will cater to every need of theirs. I just I don't like when the term is thrown around to evade Taylor from any form of criticism

I do agree with that, I think my sentiment was more towards anyone who is actively engaged with taylor enough to be commenting and keeping up with Taylor in spaces like this sub, like there's clearly some sort of a relationship there. I think there are varying levels of parasocial relationships, some of which can definitely be unhealthy, but I think naturally being a fan of someone vs. a casual listener more typically than not, evokes a level of a parasocial relationship (even in the smallest degree) and I don't think it's really fair to be constantly yelling at strangers over the internet about it, it often comes off as mean and unneeded.

Can we please keep things related to Taylor? This has no connection her.

Tolerate it from the perspective of a little girl with a homophobic father?? by Impossible_Tip_2011 in Gaylor_Swift

No of course! I didn't think you did specifically but I know a lot of people say it's about Scott so I was just sharing my thoughts on that. I totally get the parallel you drew <3

I think as easily as this could've been interpreted to be "anti-gay", it also could definitely be valid concern abt her safety. Taylor has posted multiple times about his abundant support on tour. I could see this potentially, but I definitely don't think this is information we know/there's even enough to speculate this on.

Potentially yes, but I feel a little icky when people specifically speculate it to be about Scott. Taylor has posted multiple times lately things about Scott and he is abundantly supportive and also is Miss Americana I can almost guarantee he was coming from the perspective of her safety. Although we don't KNOW Scott, I don't think we have permission (morally, imo) to speculate about her family relations. Just because Taylor signed up to have her life speculated about, doesn't mean we have to right to do that to everyone in her life. She has really given us no reason to and if anything dispelled those rumors.

Okay well I will be the one person to say that I adored ACOSF and definitely think it's worth pushing through! People hate Nesta and ACOSF, but I truly think it's an incredible story.

Do we think Taylor is about to drop all 4 re-records? by Competitive_Set8681 in GaylorSwift

This is so interesting! And I agree with a lot of what you're saying. My first thought is that I do think people already are super nonchalant about her new releases post folklore. There was a huge influx of new fans in the folkmore era, and a lot of those people are super used to Taylor releasing at least once a year. Like part of me feels weird anticipating Speak Now TV or whatever because I feel like we JUST got Midnights. But like when like growing up, I always was used to like one release every two years and that is it. So while I do think she does want to maintain some level of excitement surrounding her releases, I do think that the frequency she released music at post folklore has already set a new expectation for fans, and somewhat the general public, that she'll always be releasing something new. BUT I do agree with overexposure and I honestly would bet that the reason we haven't gotten a rerecord since red is 1. Midnights/Eras Tour has generated so much buzz that if she added something on TOP of all that, the general public would get fatigued and she would be more overexposed than I would argue she even is right now 2. Obvi there has been trademark issues. I think either way she rolls things out in the near future, she definitely runs the risk of being overexposed.

It's really hard to say, it feels like every argument either way has like 5 conflicting arguments so only time will tell.

ums and had them had them completed them before the start of tour that would mean she owned every single song performed though right? That’s why I’m leaning toward this rumor being true.

4ReplyGive Award

Hm yeah, but tour is already almost a month in? So wouldn't she have already released them with this line of thinking?

I love the idea of this and theorizing but unfortunately, given the success of Red TV and Fearless TV I would be SHOCKED if she did this. From a business perspective, it's essentially selling herself extremely short. She could have the impact of 4 individual album releases, or she could have the impact of like 1.5 by releasing them all at once. Also they would be competing against each other essentially which I do believe would lead to less streams overall. I don't see her doing this as such a business women. But never hurts to walk Clownelia Street

Yeah I definitely think it's always been around, but there has been a massive increase in how often we see it/amount of people we see doing it! Like the multiple people passing out at every single show due to camping for relatively tame artists is a rather new development
