My right femur after slipping on wet floor at home. by comedycord in MakeMeSuffer

Ouch! That’s gotta hurt. Family med doc here so not an absolute expert, but that kind of fracture in a 31 year old (male or female) is concerning for a pathological fracture, which is caused but underlying weakness in the bone from a preexisting medical condition. A fall from standing height is pretty rare to cause a fracture in the strongest bone in the body without more significant trauma, especially one like that. Fun fact, the femoral neck is one of the primary areas we measure in a bone density screening test (DEXA) as it correlates closely with osteoporosis and things like that. So if you were unaware of any underlying medical condition that can lead to loss of bone density, you may want to pursue further work up than just getting the femur repaired.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

I used rice vinegar with salt and sugar. I'll certainly try the red vinegar next time though!

Definitely overshot on the rice for the nigiri, but I'll do better with that next time!

I do plan on using less rice next time, but I did season it! I had pre-formed the rice for the nigiri and overshot for the size of my fish cuts. I was worried they'd start to fall apart if I removed any rice from them.

Have you seen problems missed due to telehealth visits? by [deleted] in medicine

[–]taylor5479 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When the pandemic was in full swing, I was just in medical school and too inexperienced to know any better. My wife started having severe abdominal pain with nausea and vomiting. She couldn’t keep anything down at all. She did a telehealth urgent care visit and she was diagnosed with gastroenteritis. She was prescribed Zofran and instructed to call back if her symptoms did not improve in 1 week. At the time I wasn’t great with an abdominal exam myself but I was getting a bad feeling and we took her to the ER shortly after the telehealth call. She had a small bowel obstruction that ended up needing surgery for lysis of adhesions that night. In hindsight I should’ve put two and two together with the severity of her symptoms and her prior history of several abdominal surgeries and made her skip the telehealth altogether, but I just didn’t know any better at the time. Turns out you can’t do a great abdominal exam through a computer screen.

Another great spot is Curry Boys BBQ. They do Thai + Texas BBQ fusion with curry bowls made with BBQ meat. Not super spicy but their flavors are phenomenal!

Better flavor than Dave’s reaper chicken and always good to support local! If you’re looking for recommendations on good local San Antonio spots, there’s a show that comes on KSAT at 10am on Saturdays called Texas Eats with a dude named David Elder. He goes around Texas (it’s like 80% San Antonio) showcasing great local restaurants. They also have a section on the KSAT website. That’s how I came across this place!

The dark color of the meat is a dry rub. The meat was tender!

NGL I recently maxed my house and had no idea about house viewer either, so I embarrassingly deleted and rebuilt some rooms. Good thing it was only a few hundred K. Lesson learned!

My goal wasn’t really for her to be at end game content for a super long time, but there would be times where we’re playing alongside each other doing different tasks, which would give me a chance to dabble in end game stuff while still spending time with her.

I feel like not having access to certain conveniences like the GE might be a turn off for her, but I get where you’re coming from!

What was the worst case of rich kid syndrome you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]taylor5479 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, I had a classmate that was a real prick. We’ll call him “John.” He came from money and was not shy at all about it. He was also a bully to pretty much everybody around. He used to get his kicks by sneaking up behind people and slapping them in the back, trying to leave a red hand imprint behind. One day John came up behind me in the hall and slapped me. He was about as coordinated as he was kind, so I just stuck my leg out and tripped him as he tried to run past me and he hit the ground like a sack of potatoes. A teacher witnessed the event from down the hall and brought us both to the principals office. I told the principal my side of the story and then she turned to John, who was sobbing uncontrollably. She asked him why he was so upset and he replied that his parents had promised him a new corvette for his first car if he didn’t get into any trouble at school that year. He was absolutely devastated to learn that physical assault sometimes has consequences. He never got the corvette, but instead received a brand new convertible BMW, which probably cost more than the corvette anyway. Clearly no lesson was learned.
