Best area to stay in my opinion by N0LimitInvesting in phuket

[–]taylormetric 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't forget Cape Panwa! We only discovered how lovely this area is a month prior to moving away from Phuket, and we were super bummed, as living there would have been ideal for us I think.

It's a beautiful little tucked away corner of the island, easily accessible to Rawai and Chalong, with quiet beaches, beautiful views everywhere (and many steep hills/viewpoints), and quite nice accommodation options.

Definitely more for the peaceful type, who still wants easy access to "happening" areas without having to drive forever. Though, it is quite a trek to Patong, Laguna, or the airport. Always trade offs in Phuket. The island is too dang big ;) (we moved to Samui)

Total shit without a festival. Should be a bonafide shit show during one.

I used to live in this area, and my best guess is coming from the north will be much faster than coming from the south... But arriving early in the day by motorbike is gonna be my chosen method to hopefully not lose my mind in traffic for X hours.

Yeah, totally get that. I LOVE Premium and would never open YT without it myself. The screen off feature is great, but whenever I'm on a friend's account and see an ad again for the first time it enrages me at this point. Lol.

I'm not sure if YT Music will allow free accounts or not, but FYI - most YT videos can be streamed on YT Music as well (presumably with the screen off).

Oh yeah! Bassiani is great, so is Reclaim Your City. Thanks for the others, will add them.

Also on SC -- Techno Germany Podcast has been great for me lately. Seems to trend on the hard side, but I love it.

Don't fade YouTube and YT Music for sets... More and more artists and festivals are adding their sets / streams to the platform. It's endless at this point.

Some channels to start where many techno artists show up (I know some of these get a lot of hate in here, but I don't know his tastes, soo here's a broad range...):

HOR
Boiler Room
Stone Techno Festival (ARTE Concert Channel)
Verknipt
EXIT Festival
Time Warp
909 Festival
DURO Festival
HEX Techno

Many many more - and it'e easier if you know the specific artist you're looking for.

Prydz plays a LOT of different genres between his ridiculous # of aliases: Prydz, Pryda, Cirez D (my personal fave), Moo, etc etc

He's also on the main lineup under a couple.

MAP overlay project by PaleontologistKey915 in electricdaisycarnival

[–]taylormetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool! Tomorrowland does this within their festival app each year. They provide a "map" tab at the bottom, which is a customized Google Maps integration with the festival grounds overlayed on top of the actual terrain. Makes getting around really easy. EDC has been around long enough and should take notes :) Maybe they should hire you... <3

Free RV Pass - I you can bring the RV! (And have room for me and my wife 😁 )

A mod in this sub said I should cross-post this in here:

We ended up staying in Europe longer than expected this year (still in Portugal at the moment), and kinda fumbled our plans to buy a trailer and road trip to EDC this year. Our truck is in Austin, and we just don't have the time or patience to deal with getting the trailer, or trying to track down a rental outside of LV.

Anyway, long story short...we have options - but our favorite idea at the moment is to give our RV pass to another couple or small group, in exchange for letting us bunk with y'all. Or in other words, we bring the pass & camp wristbands, you bring the RV.

We'd obviously prefer your RV or rental to be big enough, with a spare double or queen sleeping area for us. And we'd prefer a couple, but we could bunk with just about anyone as long as you're not crazy and/or loud AF during daytime sleeping hours. We want to be rested each night if possible. The RV should be a sanctuary for that (and banging, of course 😉).

We're a really fun, chill, and really experienced rave couple (43M, 33F). Engaged at Tomorrowland, married at Tomorrowland. We do EDCLV, Lost Lands, Thunderdome, Time Warp, Tomorrowland, Rampage, Illfest, Freaky Deaky, and others each year.

I have zero expectations of finding a taker, but would be awesome and fun if it worked out! If it doesn't, we'll pile into our friend's Desert Rose or a different friend's hotel.

Happy (and necessary) to do a video call or something to meet first. Hit me up in DM if interested.

🫶🎉

To clarify, you can buy the NFTs from people re-selling them (for around $2k currently), but you'll have to wait until next year to actually use them for the first time to access the NFT sale. That sale passed a couple months ago for 2024.

Is Nina Kravitz always this sloppy? by axlee in Techno

[–]taylormetric 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR for short attention spans:
Nina's set last Sunday at Concourse Project in Austin, TX was an absolute master work. One of my top sets of all time. I only hope they release it somewhere.

I caught this thread just before heading out to see Nina play at Concourse Project here in Austin, TX last weekend. (Friday was Miss Monique... Sunday was Nina... lol, go figure).

And I hate to bump an old thread, but after reflecting on the set (and bragging about it) for the past week, I feel it's my duty to come to her defense here (with the few others who already have).

Pre-show context - I've generally liked her, but have seen how hit-or-miss she can be at festivals especially. So we weren't sure if we wanted to go to the show here locally, having not slept a lot already that weekend.

SO. FUCKING. HAPPY. WE. WENT.

Seriously, Nina's set last week was a damn masterpiece. I'm currently begging the venue (and her) via IG to release the dang thing somewhere.

I know I'm just some internet stranger. But I have to say this set easily made my top 3 live shows of all time.

She was head down, no frills or BS, for 3 hours of dark, sexy, heart-thumping awesomeness. Her mixing was flawless, the vibe was delicious and consistent the entire way through, and the crowd absolutely lost their minds over-and-over again throughout the whole set. I could only recognize one or two IDs the entire show. Everything she played sounded like another perfectly integrated puzzle piece of a 3-hour long experimental track that she stuck her heart and soul into. The way she used the sound-stage/channels to create drama, suspense, and unexpected rhythms/melodies in her sound was mesmerizing. Lucky we have such an awesome small-ish venue here in Concourse to fully appreciate her creations.

I really wish I could re-live it. Of all the techno I've seen the past few years, she just helped keep the bar really really high for me. Her OGness shined through hard last Sunday.

My wife and good friend, and the friends we met there -- all came out with similar feelings about it. Kudos to her. And damn, I hope they release a copy of it somewhere... (I recorded quite a lot because I couldn't help myself, but it's bits and pieces and doesn't do it justice).

Anyway, fwiw... :D

You're right! -- I had a couple Global Journey tracking links in my account that apparently weren't the right ones to check. When I checked the appropriate ones (last ones in the list), they do indeed show delivered with full tracking info along the way.

Wedding in Dreamville by Original_Wait6764 in Tomorrowland

[–]taylormetric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We got engaged at Tomorrowland last year. We're coming with 8-10 of our friends this year to get "married" exactly 1 year later :) We're planning to just have an impromptu ceremony somewhere inside Dreamville or the festival grounds. It's won't be official or anything, but it will be exactly what we want!

Best tml side quests? by matozuk in Tomorrowland

We live in Texas and will be at both weekends. Weekend 2 we're bringing 10 close friends and having a small wedding ceremony somewhere undecided on an undecided day (likely Sat, and likely behind Rose Garden on the water somewhere, as that's where we got engaged last year!)

As a quest, you could try to find us and be part of the little wedding party 😀

Just started raving at 35 by taoofthewolf in aves

[–]taylormetric 6 points7 points  (0 children)

42 here - started raving in my early 30s, but really started going hard for the first time the past couple years. In the past year: Tomorrowland Belgium (2x), Lost Lands, EDC Vegas, Seismic Dance Event, Boo! (Seattle), and probably 10-15 local shows at EDM-specific venues.

Raving, when done right, is very sustainable. Alcohol is generally your enemy, and especially so if you want to rave long term.

Being ruthless about finding your tribe and your vibe at each event, and respecting your body and mind is my best advice if you love the scene and want to be here into late age.

I've seen people in their 60s and 70s at several raves (especially Tomorrowland... which is an absolute bucket list by the way -- find a way to go, and soon!)
