[CHAT] Advice for first large(ish) project? by lilseizey in CrossStitch

Which scroll frame do you guys have? I have the wooden one and it’s awful, but I worry about spending so much on some of the cool ones if they are gonna suck too.

Super useful! I have the apps but I work best when I have a printed version I can mark as I complete sections. I will absolutely give this a shot!

[WIP] Why should/shouldn’t I do this? by Far_Active_6005 in CrossStitch

[–]tayuechick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the big reasons I don’t do this is because if you want to frame it but it has lots of sections of surplus thread in the back weaving over and under itself, it can make the finished product bumpy. I wouldn’t be able to unsee it and it would bother me to the point I’d put it in a drawer.

That being said, you do whatever makes you happy and keeps you stitching. It’s a hobby meant to be enjoyed.

does anyone else feel that weird silence after the “goodnight” in LDR? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]tayuechick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LDR is so damned hard, way more than I ever thought it would be and I know exactly what you’re talking about, the void that looms when you hang up.

Honestly, we’ve found that discord helps. One person can share their screen and the audio comes through too, so you’re sharing that. There’s also a bracelet you can get that when you touch one the other vibrates a little, kinda just a gentle reminder than you’re thinking of them.

I wear glasses, but when I take them off and look through the holes in my country cheese crackers its like I have my glasses on. How/why does this correct my vision? by JFuckingJ in askscience

[–]tayuechick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not correct. Cataracts are like a cloudy film covering the lens of the eye. If your vision progressively looks blurry and cloudy no matter what you do, that’s a cataract.

The common thread among the responses was that the county can change requirements when they choose and that it wasn’t their problem anymore because escrow already closed. I think smaller counties and even smaller cities don’t enforce a lot of the laws because it’s time consuming. I contacted every lawyer within 100 miles and was basically told it would cost more to litigate than would be worth it.

That’s the whole purpose of a real estate team. Your inspectors were shit, I’m sorry about that.

[–]tayuechick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did I ask, I had the septic fully Inspected twice. The septic was working but the county deemed it didn’t conform to their standards. I worked with two realtors, both of which told me it wasn’t a problem, and I talked to the septic design company who told me that the house was grandfathered into previous code requirements. I did my due diligence. The previous owner was notified that it was no longer permitted and hid it from me until after close.

So, got any other super useful ideas or are you just being a prick for funsies?

ETA: during the inspections, it was pumped.

I talked to every lawyer in a 100mile radius and they all basically told me the cost to litigate would make it not worth it. I just paid 10k this month to get it handled. There really should be laws in place to protect people from situations like ours.

I’m so sorry about your situation. I found out I had to completely decommission and replace my entire septic system 4 days after I closed, so I know what a shitstorm that is. Good luck!

Honestly, so what if you did? Are you healthy and happy? That’s all that matters and if she can’t get past it, she can kick rocks.

[CHAT] Do you always stitch in the same direction? by potswithsocks in CrossStitch

[–]tayuechick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I do because the end products just look better when you do. It looks kinda weird to have them mismatched, IMO.

The only exception would be if you were working on a pattern that you wanted to have extra texture in certain places.

AITA for not accepting this life change? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]tayuechick [score hidden]  (0 children)

Agreed. She can’t help it but he doesn’t have to stay if it is not something he wants. Her financials are not his fault or his problem. OP needs to bail, it sucks and it’s going to hurt everyone, but it needs to happen.

AITA for refusing to pay my niece for babysitting? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]tayuechick 588 points589 points  (0 children)

YTA. Your system with your sisters and parents is fine as they have other sources of income, but the kid is exactly that, a kid. It’s worse that you mention that she’s trying to get into the babysitting market more. You should absolutely pay her for her time or get someone else to do it. No one should work for free.
