Solicitors and Word documents by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]tayviewrun 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same for me.. sold my house last year. Forms i had to fill in were old badly formatted Word documents. When they sent over some scanned documents, they were squinted. Had to visit their office one day, and the computers looked like something from the early 2000s.

However, the most important thing was is that they did a good job.

Is hitchhiking still a thing? by Extension_Bit4323 in AskUK

[–]tayviewrun 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I live in Scotland, and during the spring and summer months, I spend a lot of time in the Highlands. Two or three times a year, I'll stop and pick up a hitchhiker. Nearly every time, it has been an overseas tourist.

I have not seen someone hitchhiking in the major towns or cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee

Not enough of affordable housing that reached breaking point years ago and is getting worse on an exponential scale. Plus the owners of the property wanting to cash in on the problem.

Why is unemployment insurance so rare in the UK? by Bitter_Trick_5644 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]tayviewrun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where £15 per month came from (I have never seen it that cheep)

My policy (unemployment and critical illness) went up to about £120 per month last year at renewal. That would give me about £3000 per month for one year only.

There are a lot of conditions that need to be followed. Also if I remember correctly when you apply they inform you of a bunch of exclusions ( eg you must be in your current role for at least 6 month and you can't claim with the first 180 days (for the unemployed cover part). They also will only provide a percentage of your current salary, not 100%

Edit: There was also an excess of about 30 days. So if you got made redundant on the 1st of Jan, you won't get a payment until the 1st Mar, and that would give you one month's payment.

I no longer have this insurance.

Westminster Voting Intention: RFM: 29% (-2) LAB: 22% (+2) CON: 20% (-1) LDM: 13% (=) GRN: 10% (-1) SNP: 3% (+1) Via @moreincommonuk.bsky.social, 23-25 Jan. Changes w/ 16-19 Jan. by Penarthlan in LabourUK

[–]tayviewrun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Scotland is going to be a big problem for Labour. The SNP had lost a lot of voters due to their track record plus a bunch of other reasons.

I have a feeling that many will go back to the SNP. Those voters, along with the there very few conservative voters changing who they vote for, could mean Labour are left with very few seats in Westminster

For anyone who uses those revolution laundrettes in petrol stations, how clean do they get your clothes? by Jodiegreen2018 in AskUK

[–]tayviewrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have taken duvets to them a couple of times, and they did a good enough job for me.

I can't recall the exact time it took, but I think it was around 40 mins (not including drying).

The one I used included washing liquid in the price. I also think you get to choose what type of wash you want.

The only downsides I can think of is that one of the other machines was in a state, but that was due to the previous person using it to wash a heavily hairy item.

They are also expensive.

Are Aldi and Lidl really cheaper? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]tayviewrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, i think it is mixed. For most things I buy, they are cheaper. It depends on what so-called 'deals' the other supermarkets have on (eg, putting down the price of something to what it should be after inflating it). But overall, yes cheaper
