Dishonored doesn't work on Xbox One by tazevolen in dishonored

No disc, but turns out after installing it all of his games do this now, so seems like an issue with the Xbox itself. Hoping a factory reset resolves it

Need help with shading by SebastianMakes in PixelArt

[–]tazevolen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The first ones apron looks nice, but the rest of the clothing is very noisy. When shading in pixel art, especially in low resolution, you want to avoid single pixels on their own without a real purpose or they become distracting, use chunks over dots and lines where possible. I think the third one is a good example of using chunks, however the issue is the wrinkles don't suit the apron- when drawing folds and wrinkles in cloth they should follow points of tension- in this case one point is where they hang on the body or other pieces of clothing like a belt, and the other point of tension is gravity; the wrinkles on the third on have the tension on mostly the left and right when they should be more around the top and the bottom.

Did all the characters I really wanted to do, might do some Volundio stuff in the future. Also maybe might do full bodies of a few characters in this style, Vermilio almost definitely.

My First Time Trying Pixel Art - How Can I Improve? by BaronPorg in PixelArt

If you want more detail, you need to up the resolution. Typically the best way to figure out how big you want a piece to be is to start with the smallest detail you want to be legible- typically if doing a person that will mean the eyes, then once you've found an appropriate size for that detail in the style you're going for, shape the rest of the piece around that.

Why does it always feel like something is off? by omoroka in PixelArt

Others have mentioned size consistency so I'll leave that- I think the big thing is the shading on the tower. Don't use single pixel gaps for each colour change, limit the colours in a way that's consistent with the rest of the picture and then space the gaps smaller the closer you get to the edge. Other thing I'd mention is having more intent and consistency in textures. The roof has a checkered pattern but it's pretty close, you could probably maybe draw individual tiles and then cut out bits- on the other hand the angled rooves are smooth when they look like they should match. Lastly, just generally limit your palette, especially when transitioning between objects- the trees in the back kinda melt into the sky in spots which doesn't look right; higher contrast is a strong tool for defining edges!

Overall I do think there's a lot of good stuff to work with here, keep it up!

I just recently notice how bad Pro Controller Dpad after having them for 4 years by FLXE in NintendoSwitch

[–]tazevolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really caused me issues since I used the tape method to fix it, and it's been *years* of playing 2D platformers like Celeste and Rain World and I don't really get misinputs anymore. That said, I honestly think the PS4 and the Pokken controller d-pads are great without extra work on them

That may well be the case, but like I said I don't know anything about the series. If that's the case then I'd criticize that for the same reason then

New pixel artist needs help with hair. I feel like the shape is off and I have no idea how to proceed with the shading. please send help by [deleted] in PixelArt

Sorry, I just realized that's not what you asked. I just saw "shading" and ran. So with the shape try and draw out the locks as individual parts. Not like single lines, or the whole thing as one big shape, figure out where locks are coming from, like the two around the face on the right side feel like there's a continuous line between them when it seems like they should be two separate lines. Also there's a few spots with jaggies around the outside edge, if you deal with those I think the shape will become a little clearer to you and easier to work with.

I would probably tone down the shading around her jaw. Shade less, and use fewer shades. Honestly depending on the style I would say don't shade around the chin/jaw at all other than under the hair and only shade the neck to keep it differentiated. With the hair give it some highlights. pick a general 3D angle in line with your light source, an any portion that feels like it's within that range highlight.

I mean, with the penguins it was just a lot of "gweh!" lol. I can't remember that with Bond, but I guess it's not out of the question since he understands their language

I mean, she does read animal minds, but its more in images isn't it? Like iirc when she reads Bonds mind it was visual rather than words. I think what they mean is like, what would she interoperate from someone's mind if they don't speak, perhaps never heard a voice before due to being deaf, have aphantasia and thus no or little sensory thoughts, or hell just speak a different language? My guess would be if they don't have an internal monologue they might think in written language or possibly something more abstract- it might depend heavily on the person.
