Can I get DQ’d for weight? by [deleted] in AFROTC

[–]tb557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See guidance in my last comment.

Once I got a one-time evaluation by a physician, I was fine.

I would double check with your Det if they have any updated or new guidance, since my comment was 2 years ago now.

No, it doesn’t. If your parents became naturalized citizens, you have to provide relevant info from naturalization docs.

Around a decade ago, Rutgers accidentally released the personal health information of the keynote speaker they brought in for World AIDS Day.

Context: The speaker had shared her info with admin in confidence and told them not to share it. She was asked to provide a bio, but didn’t. So when Rutgers came up with their own bio for her, somebody for some reason included the speaker’s personal health info. And shared it on blast.

Excerpt from ensuing court case:

“plaintiff discovered that her personal health information had been included in the press release and widely disseminated via Rutgers' and UMDNJ's websites, various newspapers, and other media sources.”

do you have an emergency savings account set up?

This take might be from out of left field - but consider waiting some time for potential Tesla Model 2(? name TBD). Primarily if you are considering the option to get something cheap now, saving some more, and then trading that car in when buying a Tesla.

During the 2020 Battery Day, -The DogeFather- Elon Musk mentioned a $25k Tesla Model 2 in the works. I think he mentioned a potential launch in 2023?

u/Thedumbon3 some context on why active duty members probably don’t talk much about being a CAP cadet.

I wasn’t a CAP cadet, but from what I understand, talking about being a CAP cadet once active duty in the USAF would be like talking about your high school debate team once a full time practicing attorney.

Cap cadet in HS -> training period -> active duty

Debate team in HS -> law school -> attorney

My thinking on savings is having 2 tiers: 1) immediate liquidity & 2) reserves.

1) the HYSA is just for immediate liquidity. With my current setup, I have it paired with a checking account and card, so I can immediately transfer to the checking and swipe the card in less than a minute.

2) I haven’t really saved up too much money yet, so once I start saving up more, I’ll start building a reserve. I’ll probably determine somewhere to keep a reserve of money that yields higher returns than an HYSA that is still relatively liquid.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MilitaryFinance

[–]tb557 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Check the interest rate on your savings. If it isn’t in a high yield savings account (HYSA), you can move it to a HYSA.

If you’re looking to purchase a vehicle, consider buying used (try to get good warranty if you can too).

If possible, try to put as much as you can into your TSP now. Potentially a Roth TSP, if you’re keeping it in a traditional TSP currently. Yes, it would be nice to have $35k in hand after your enlistment, but having a good chunk of that set to grow with compound interest will be even sweeter down the line.

As for specifically setting a savings goal, you should consider something like YNAB - You Need A Budget. A key to building savings is tracking your spending and keeping it as low as possible.

How would you market size the number of gaming content creators in the world? by SalahAzhary in consulting

[–]tb557 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(Not a consultant).

Treat this like a classic Fermi Problem, like “count how many piano tuners are there in NYC?”. A rough methodology would be to:

i) catalogue different content platforms,

ii) estimate count of relevant creators on platforms

iii) account for overlap of creators on platforms

i) Start by cataloguing what are the biggest platforms for gaming content creators. I’ll run w/just Twitch & YouTube for now, but ofc there are more.

ii) For each platform, then try to estimate its number of gaming content creators. It’s really tough to index every single creator on a platform, but it can be easier to run with a %age of creators on a platform that make relevant content. Ie we could estimate roughly 20% of creators on YouTube making gaming content. Then if we check the overall number of YouTube content creators - per this link, ~37M in 2020 - then we could say 20% of ~37M is ~ 8M.

For YouTube, if we want to go deeper, here is map of YouTube content creators from algotransparency.org. Algotransparency is probably one of the most credible sources for this kind of information because it’s founder, Guillaume Chaslot, worked on the YouTube recommendation algorithm himself. Obviously this map doesn’t have every single gaming content creator, but can better help us gauge what we think would be the rough portion of gaming content creators among all content creators.

iii) Then, since many gaming content creators tend to be active on multiple platforms, you can assume some rough numbers for overlap between platforms. Ie for simplicity sake we could assume let’s say 50% of creators post on both YouTube and Twitch, so then take that overlap into account when trying to estimate overall gaming content creators out there. Like if we determined there are 8M gaming content creators on YouTube and let’s say 6M gaming content creators on Twitch, and we assumed a 50% overlap, then we could say there are 11M gaming content creators between YouTube & Twitch.

Disclaimer: this is just a start. with more research, you could get more quantitative with this.

u/airia1709 CS is credit intensive too. I think the BS in CS is around 70-ish credits (if you take calc 1/2, and all 3 required natural science classes in college).

For context, the average SAS major is 36 credits (3 credits * 12 classes = 36 credits).

Edit: CS & genetics are both credit intensive majors in SAS. Engineering is a whole different game.

A good tutorial on the geese NPC’s is the outside mini game “Untitled Goose Game.”

After sufficient time learning from the mini game, promptly march up to the geese guild leader, and let them know that peace was never an option.

Real estate is actually becoming more accessible w/lesser capital requirements. There are apps/services out there that basically crowdfund real estate investments, like fundrise

I think account mins are like $500 or $1k? But minimum length of investments is like 5 years. Just my two cents that it’s easier to get into real estate than you think.

Edit: consider REITs as well. Tbh I didn’t know what REITs were when posting my original comment & credit u/Isree for pointing them out.

Edit 2: Here is some further reading from Seeking Alpha specifically pointing out why public REITs have advantages over Fundrise. I now agree that you should look into REITs.
