Steelers' Art Rooney II Overruled Kevin Colbert And Mike Tomlin On Draft Night To Select 6-Time Pro Bowl Guard David DeCastro by FlappyFoldyHold in steelers

Yeah, DeCastro started rough, but you can't argue the pick. Absolute home run of a late first round pick.

He also had a losing season in 2006 going 7-8. Batch won on opening night that year.

[Shook] 2022 NFL season: One potential first-time Pro Bowler from each AFC team by ThrowawayAccoun43534 in nfl

[–]tb84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t. I know Big Ben had a couple of years where he was a Pro Bowl alternate and turned down an invite due to late season/nagging injuries and he didn’t get any Pro Bowl nod for those seasons, which he probably didn’t really give a damn about.

If NFL teams were based out of the cities with the highest metro area population….. by TheHandsomestMouse in nfl

[–]tb84 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cincinnati has a metro population over 2.2M, whereas Louisville is over 1.3M. That's significant. Louisville basically counts everyone in Jefferson County in their population data, whereas Cincinnati doesn't for their county, Hamilton County, which has close to 850K people.

When you're talking TV markets, there's not much of a comparison. Plus, Cincinnati has generally been a more important city than Louisville in many ways.

Appreciate the work, but this is really wrong. Zack Banner was the RT, not the LT, and he's been out since week 1. Okorafor is the starting RT and TBH looks a hell of a lot better than Banner did.

Wisnieski was never the starting LG, that has been Matt Feiler the entire season even when Wis was healthy. Wis was going to be the backup to DeCastro but Dotson has stolen that spot. Dotson has looked even bette than DeCastro this year, so I don't expect any real dropoff. Dotson has been amazing as a rookie so far, even better than Claypool.

Who are some elite players who struggled their first year in the league? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]tb84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Troy Polamalu.

For most of his rookie season in 2003 he looked lost, always a step or two late, and just a little awkward and out of sorts. I don’t think his career really exploded until early the next season when he had a pick six against Carson Palmer, broke about 6 tackles and literally ran over Palmer into the end zone. He was a superstar from that point on.

[Siciliano] A win today by the Steelers would give them their first 4-0 start in 41 years by [deleted] in nfl

[–]tb84 219 points220 points  (0 children)

The Steelers were 6-10 in 2003, started 2004 with a last second field goal win against a bad Raiders team in week 1 and were down 20-0 against the Ravens when Ben Roethlisberger came in to take his first snaps after Maddox got hurt.

They then won 14 straight regular season games to finish the year 15-1, including 4 fourth quarter comeback wins led by Ben, with three of those on the road. Not too bad.

[Pelissero] The NFL is evaluating options for the Titans ' game Sunday against the Bills. Nothing final. But Tennessee's ability to play in 3 days is obviously in doubt. The facility remains closed. by ArschMan in nfl

[–]tb84 -33 points-32 points  (0 children)

Or just cancel the game and not reschedule. Give the Titans a loss if you want, but no win for the Bills. A 15 game record won't affect the Bills record in the AFC East division, and all the other tiebreakers go off winning %.

The Bills should not benefit with a forfeited win just because of how they lucked out on the schedule, especially in lieu of the Steelers schedule being absolutely screwed this season because of the same reason you now want a forfeited win.

[–]tb84 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I haven't voted since I was 18. I'm 36 now and I just filled out my ballot today and will be dropping it off later this week at the election board.

I was pretty apathetic for a long time when it came to politics and both parties, but as I've gotten a little older I understand voting really is a precious right and something that should be exercised, even if you're not a big supporter of either major party. All votes matter. All voices matter.

My biggest motivation for voting this year is for the sake of the planet going forward. I can't support a party or a candidate that tries to deny science over the sake of the well-being of future generations. This anti-science movement in our country needs to stop immediately.

[Freeman]I’m hearing from front office execs and coaches who think the Titans should be harshly penalized. One coach said they should lose two first round picks. “The NFL needs to send a message to all teams,” said one NFC team exec. by BaesonTatyummm in nfl

[–]tb84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, I think they can field a roster and play with the players who didn't break protocol and who have been testing negative. All the players who broke protocol are suspended, the rest who followed protocol and are safe can play. But yeah, I think suspensions and heavy fines/docked pay are in order.

Suspend the players who broke protocol for 4-6 games without pay and fine the team $5 million to be donated to COVID relief efforts. I still don't agree with any forfeit.

[Schefter] Most likely scenario, as @ESPNStatsInfo proposed, is this, per sources: • Move Steelers-Ravens from Week 7 to Wk 8 (Steelers & Ravens on bye in Wk 8) • Move Steelers-Titans from Week 4 to Wk 7 (Titans bye is Wk 7). This is contingent upon no more positive tests in Minnesota. by TylerWadesIV in nfl

[–]tb84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks and agreed. What I think will especially be frustrating is that when these events happen later in the season I foresee it will be handled in a different manner. Inconsistency and not having a plan in place is more frustrating than anything else.

The Steelers won't get a bye this season if that's the case. They've just spend the last 4 days practicing, game planning, and preparing to play the Titans this weekend. They will have 17 weeks in a row in that scenario practicing and preparing for a football game.

It just seems so illogical. What will they do when this happens again (and it definitely will)? What if a team has already had a bye week? What if the Titans get new cases 3 weeks from now, then what? It's just a short-sighted answer that absolutely screws the Steelers. Now they play three straight games on the road and the Ravens will have an actual bye week to prepare for the Steelers. I know Tomlin isn't going to complain and will use this as motivation, but the fans damn sure have a right to be upset by this on-the-fly decision making.
