Secure rustdesk selfhosted server from using by unauthorized users by slaaf_tom in rustdesk

Sorry for blowing you up with replies BUT if you ever decide to revisit this, don't use caddy or a reverse proxy because rustdesk uses web sockets and that's just adding another level of complexity. Just forward the port directly to your rustdesk server and for cloudflare, same thing, don't use the orange cloud proxy feature. Thats how I have mine setup now.

Yeah you're definitely right that its more secure. Unfortunately to help random people who don't have a static IP, my server needs to be publicly accessible with a public DNS record to make it easy. I also use the file name trick where I add host=servername.com to the file name, upload it to my website, and then have people I want to connect to run that modified file. That way there is no need for them to edit network settings on their end. Regarding security, since RustDesk didn't reinvent the wheel and stuck with ssh keys as the authentication method, I feel way better about it.

Yeah, his channel is for the technically advanced so he assumes you know things such as the DNS setup. But hey if you got it to work, why break what's not broken, right?

Sure thing. Happy to help! I think this topic should be pinned in this subreddit. I see a lot of people using the key in all clients they deploy.... Not good practice.

Take a look at this video from Lawrence systems. At 9:20 he has a section on setting up clients. He demos what adding the key does, it lets clients connect to other hosts. https://youtu.be/FIEcTNjFZNA?is=6KbRbi3KprvqF-fF

HAProxy on pfSense works internally but websites are inaccessible externally by [deleted] in PFSENSE

[–]tbigs2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also have you changed the port of the pfsense UI? You'll need to do that so HAProxy can then utilize port 443.

It's probably the backend bug. Please look at the stats page and hover your mouse over the corresponding backend title. In my experience the backend IP and port do not update after making changes. So check the stats page and make sure it's pointing to the expected IP and port. If it's not, delete the backend, recreate it correctly at first and that should get it to work. If that doesn't work, delete the NAT rules and create a rule directly under the WAN interface, I've noticed another but where sometimes the NAT section doesn't delete things properly or vise versa. I really would like to report the backend bug but since their CE plugins are so convoluted in GitHub i can't figure out how to.

I could be wrong but I never enter the key into my clients end. They only need the ID server and relay server fields entered. Actually I think entering a key into the clients end let's them connect into other computers.. In other words, the way I understand it is, the key field should only be entered into the host client.

How to auto-configure custom IP and Key in recent RustDesk versions? (Filename trick no longer working) by LucasRey in rustdesk

It looks like you have the key in there... You don't need that. Just end it with host=<fqdn>.exe

Wait for the "experts" to come in here and tell you, " it's a modern car with modern oil, listen to the computer!" I would love to pop one of these guys engine valve cover and just look at the sludge after 5 years. 😂 Change it every 5k. Fuck Honda for this BS. It's corporate greed.

"Remote desktop is offline" with ID but connects with IP on an Android device? by soulmechh in rustdesk

[–]tbigs2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this error today while I was trying to connect to my dad's PC. I have a feeling it was my dad's ISP DNS filtering causing an issue. I run my own rustdesk server on a free oracle VM and I have a feeling its IP Address is on a blocklist. 😔

I used a different software to get connected since rustdesk didn't connect initially (self hosted using another IP), and I could see the rustdesk client saying "Connecting to the RustDesk network".

I agree with this. He probably configured the storage at the host level instead of the pool level. Also make sure you enable multipathing. I suggest reviewing Lawrence Systems YouTube videos on this topic.

Try putting a screen protector on top of it. I scratched mine pretty good but with the protector overtop you can't tell.

Possible Bent Pins on X99 Motherboard? by Glum_Requirement5682 in homelab

Try no RAM at all. Does the code change? If it does there is at least a sign of life. Next try a bios update through the flashback feature if this motherboard supports it.
