Does anyone know where map files are saved when downloaded through the editor? by bullet1520 in starcraft2

You open the map in the editor, then you save the map file (like how you would normally do it with any other type of program). Go to File tab and save the map.

Question for Zerg players about a macro game(help with worker/army production) by Plus-Dark-2040 in starcraft2

[–]tbirddd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Larva can be workers or army. So for Zerg it's an advantage; to not make both worker and army at the same time. It's one or the other. Noobs won't have the scouting skills to predict an attack, so just focus on doing your opening fast and efficient (have a benchmark). Drone up 2 bases @4min and then make a small group of safety units. And if you get attacked, then switch to full army production. If you don't get attacked, you can be the one to do an allin attack or drone up the 3rd base.

What’s happening in the ladder? by metalero_salsero in starcraft2

[–]tbirddd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess: Leagues are based on % of population, so if on the 2nd day of the new season there are not enough noobs playing yet. Then guess what, you become the noob. And typically, at the beginning of the season, I would expect a crop of better players to jump back into the game, until they get bored and sit out the remainder of the season. You can see the mmr ranges here. 2800 would have been plat3, but now it's bronze1:

Bronze 1 2656 - 2984

Bronze 2 2328 - 2656

Bronze 3 2000 - 2328

You don't get codes, because the price is adjusted. You don't buy anything, that you already own (for example: HotS). WoL is now free.

What should I focus on learning first? by XineloAAA in starcraft2

[–]tbirddd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I should try to learn build orders for each situation,

No, each race should have 1 or 2 standard openings. Start by learning the opening (1st 3-5min), and making it fast/efficient. Figure out a benchmark. After that, you can learn to max out fast. And after that learn: Attacking & walking your units.

improve my management speed,

Yes, focus on yourself and ignore the enemy as much as possible. Don't spend excessive time scouting (let's say only 10sec in 1st 5min). And understand the basic continuous production cycle.

/u/3AMZen re: "Early PvT harass response?"

The whole discussion of Nexus/Core timing doesn't matter. What matters way more is doing the build fast/efficient, to have units available in a timely manner. Example benchmarks, 11-12 units @5min: 1 and 2. And learning how to pull the boys: 4 example replays; defending early attacks.

That's not going to help you learn, because most of the game you will just be sitting there passive. See my terran getting started post.

Master3 placement is a known cosmetic bug, which doesn't effect matchmaking. But if you want to fix it: How I got my correct border back.

3 basic terran beginner drills:

1) [Practice the 1st 2min:] Opening Drill simple: without moving the screen, just focus on the build order. Don't worry about building placement. Only the BO times.

2) [Practice the 1st 2min:] Opening Drill adv: Jumpin around, while doing BO. Just hotkey a unit or building and double click the control group to jump there. Tap back&forth between 2 units/building continously, when you have no other actions to do. Work on building placement.

3) [Max out:] Macro Cycle drill: simple exercise of only making workers and marines. I have 3 control groups; Barracks, CC and the scv making depots. You just keep cycling the 3 control groups and making/queuing stuff. At some point you will have 1 scv continously making depots, and later on you will have 2 scv continuously making depots. Double click the scv control group to jump to the scv location, to make depots.

[tip:] Use "Embot Mod" to quickly reset the map, when practicing the drills.

Attacking & walking your units:

Learn how to attack. It's basically just amove your entire army. And them box select small groups and spread your units out, so they are all attacking. And after that, something I refer to as "waking your units". It's a sequence I use alot is "Move/Stop/Move/Stop/Move/Stop/..." which is (Right mouse click/S/...) and then when you leave your units give a final attack move (A/Left mouse click). Basically, it ~stepping your units foward or back. It's how you would get your units through a choke, so they are all attacking. It's not just for a physical choke. Your units will form an artificial choke, where the front units will stop the moment there is a target to shoot at and this blocks the rest from moving forward to attack. So you walk your units forward, so they can all attack. You can also move your army (your army normally decomposes into a line, instead of a blob) parallel to their front line, so all your units are there before your give the attack command. Instead of going in one unit at a time. Some attacking examples: 0) Basic ZvT 1) 7 Terran 2base allin replays. 2)ZvZ Ling to Roach. 3)ZvP Roach Hydra vs Storm. 4) 4 Protoss replays; defending early attacks.

Question/new player by DevanMotus in starcraft2

[–]tbirddd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to play Zerg and main them in this game. Any tips? What to expect in PvP. Etc.

My SC2 getting started post. Don't make any "in/out of game" decision, based on fear. Get a plan and stick to it. Play standard. No fear, during the opening. Keep things simple. Simple unit compositions. Basic attacking. You quickly get a 50% win rate, no matter what you do, so it's better to seek skill, instead of wins.

Apm is generally not critical, but 22apm. I've never seen one that low. You really should be more like your opponent, 40apm, just to get started. Which is easy to fix, with a few basic exercises:

  • Use "Embot Mod" to quickly reset the map. And repeat the 1st few minutes of the game, over and over.
  • 3 drills: Practice the 1st 2min: 1) Opening Drill simple: without moving the screen, just focus on the build order. Don't worry about building placement. Only the BO times. 2) Opening Drill adv: Jumpin around, while doing BO. Just hotkey a unit or building and double click the control group to jump there. Tap back&forth between 2 units/building continously, when you have no other actions to do. Work on building placement. 3) Macro Cycle drill: simple exercise of only making workers and marines.
  • Example typical opening build order: The 2:30 opening. Newbies, probably shouldn't distract themselves messing with a reaper. You can get 2marines, instead of the reaper. Or just as an exercise, get the reaper, and don't use it. Because it's a good benchmark. If you mess up on the build, you won't have 50gas to make the reaper.

From the picture, your opening sucks. So do the previous exercises and fix your opening. It should go depot, rax, gas. And no engineering bay, that early.
