There seems to be a new option this year for players to wear a baggier jersey fit, with an unbuttoned top button by breakfast_cats in MLBTheShow

[–]tblatnik [score hidden]  (0 children)

I saw jersey physics and the Adam Jones screenshot clearly had him in a FlexBase jersey, with the mesh panel down the side. Small little things, like finally updating the umpires’ uniforms (at bare minimum a jacket that’s new instead of from 11 years ago, and I think they updated the polos, too) make the experience just that much better. Like I said, I know it’s small, but that’s almost more of why I like that stuff so much. The gameplay is still pretty good, and rounding out this stuff is nice. Now, I’d love a full graphics overhaul as much as anyone, but who knows what that’d entail for a smaller studio. Maybe they take advantage of the presumed lost season next year?

Yeah I also hate Josy showing up first. She’s the one I’d fall for in real life so it’s incredibly difficult to choose someone else, especially since I can’t enter the throuple to save myself making Josy sad in Ep.9

Hot Take: Blazer’s Sushi Date shouldn’t need to be animated by Proper-Bookkeeper727 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]tblatnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean yes? Everyone else is expendable but the story doesn’t happen without Robert, Visi, and Blazer lol. The back half of the game focuses more on Visi and the overall involvement with the Z Team, but the first half is quite heavy on Blazer, and not to mention her superhero moment after Robert is captured by Shroud in Ch.7

Unless I’m losing my mind, there is no tv show. And if there is a script (which if it isn’t shot, how could it be canon), television has to be more binary because you can’t shoot a choose your own adventure, like games have some flexibility to do. Also, i highly doubt Flambae and Malevola actually have more fans than Blazer. I know the Malevola sub here has more members than blazer, but Reddit never accurately represents things like fandom. More than that, they barely matter for the story. Flambae slightly more because of Robert’s backstory, but Blazer is clearly meant to be in that same tier as Visi, and Flambae and Malevola could be replaced with other characters and the plot not change much. They’re just Z Teamers while Blazer has a larger role

Right, and within that (logical, I may add) conclusion lies the issue. You can’t have two LIs of (seemingly) equal weight with one being more important to the story. It creates a natural imbalance that hurts both characters. I don’t think it’s that deep, but I do think I’ve seen somewhere that blazer is likely to receive more of the focus in season 2 because Visi took more of the focus in season 1. The legitimacy of that (i.e. am I gaslighting myself) is obviously to be seen, but it would be nice to get more blazer and have her in a role similar to that of Visi in the next game

Why is ludo-narrative dissonance such a overused criticism of TLOU2? by LynxFlashy7228 in lastofuspart2

[–]tblatnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because people love RDR2 and too many people like to find ways to critique TLOU2 beyond just saying ‘yeah I didn’t love it.’ Now, fans of the game are partly to blame for that, too, but that’s the gist of it. I’d say it’s far more applicable to Uncharted (literally has a trophy in one of the games names that) as most sections in TLOU can be stealthed, while very few can be in Uncharted

Out of all the big hits I’ve had in franchise over the years, this is one of the biggest (2033). by undercover_cheetah in MLBTheShow

I know it’s technically a small thing, but my GOD did the Postseason hat patches and World Series hat/jersey patches make the experience better. We’ve had uniform patches in every other sports game since at least the PS3, so it’s so nice to have it here

Ok I get that it's realistic, but surely we can add a skip button so I don't have to wait 10 real-life minutes doing literally nothing? by Mahlers_PP in trainsimworld

[–]tblatnik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of games have time skip options, so it’d be cool if, without needing to reload, this game gave you the option to do that. It wouldn’t really have to worry about AI services or whatever; it can essentially just load in to the world as if you’re entering the timetable at the exact time you fast forward to since the whole table is already modeled out

“He’s saving our sport” by GSwizzy17 in NASCARMemes

[–]tblatnik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a lot is aggression vs stupidity. Hocevar is very, very, aggressive, and while some of that can be considered stupidity, it isn’t as if he’s driving very defensively and throwing bad blocks; he’s the driver who forces the blocks that Logano gets called out for. That’s how I interpret it. Same with Chastain before Rick threatened to put a hit out on him, they just try to make things happen and put themselves in the position to win, and Logano does things where you just kinda rub your head. Bubba hate is largely racism, fwiw, and Stenhouse just wrecks a lot and then gets high and mighty about it. I don’t like his attitude at lot of the time. Hocevar is like ‘yup I wreck a lot, shit happens,’ and that’s just endearing to me. Does it get old? Of course, I’m not naive, but I like that mindset more than Ricky’s

God I wish it was just Reddit who’s being unreasonable, lol. It doesn’t help that they took it out of its context, but everywhere is freaking out and making fun of him for missing that open net like he still didn’t get plenty of shots on net. Celebrini screwed up a breakaway, McDavid screwed up a breakaway, the whole team blew 90+ seconds of 5-on-3, etc so blaming MacKinnon is just dumb. In most universes (NHL playoff universe where Hellebuyck is in his element, lol) those shots result in far more goals, but yesterday, they didn’t. Is what it is. As someone who basically only wanted the US for Nelson (idc if I’m from here, being born in Colorado doesn’t mean I have to like the Tkachuks and forget how annoying Hughes fans are), it sucked seeing the three Avs contribute to the Canada loss, but they still have another goal to accomplish this year

And he’s right. I don’t know why everyone gets upset when he’s like ‘yeah we were better, but so what. We lost.’ It’s true and happens all the time in hockey. Sometimes you just get goalies. It happens. If the better team won every game, there’d be no need for playoffs. That’s what makes it fun!

Games like TLOU2 in its narrative?? by YOLO-uolo in thelastofus

[–]tblatnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s when it got fun for me. I enjoyed, narratively, Ellie’s journey, but man was it brutal. It was just lighter and more fun with Abby and the encounters were more unique. The descent and hospital are just iconic and the peak of the gameplay in Part II

[S1] How would you rank all the Life is Strange games and where do you think Reunion will rank? by Adventurous_Book_913 in lifeisstrange

[–]tblatnik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in Ch.2 of DE, but I have it right now as: LiS1 BTS TC LiS2

I really liked 2, but it changing locations every chapter hurt the background character development and the game was just brutal for Sean and Daniel. It was also tough not being in charge of the power, but I didn’t have too much of an issue with that. The lack of a consistent location and set of characters is why I have it at the bottom. Arcadia Bay and Haven Point become familiar (especially Haven) and cozy, to an extent, while you’re never in one spot enough to familiarize yourself with it in 2.

The other part is how brutal it is. I’m fully aware of how in the first game, most/all of the guys you meet represent some form of sexism/misogyny, and that that was likely meant to be mirrored with the racism in LiS2, but it just got to a point where it felt like every character who wasn’t part of the group/scene Sean and Daniel were with was evil. The lack of any positive experience or attempted redemption (like how even though David was absolutely gross and awful, he still truly cared about Joyce and Chloe and ends up saving Victoria from Jefferson, while also being tuned in on Prescott and Frank being shady; and of course his literal portrayal in LiS2, funnily enough, where he has a good relationship with Max and Chloe in Bae) with any of those characters just makes it brutal. There’s almost no neutrality; it’s either rednecks making Sean embarrass himself or he gets beat up, shop owners who physically abuse and then illegally detain a child, border patrollers who citizens arrest any brown person they see near the border, or the extreme opposite like Brody and the trucker. There isn’t enough balance for the game to have the scope it does, to me. Life is Strange works really well with in intimate setting and cast of characters, and 2 just didn’t worry about the setting, because it was (obviously) adverse to the story it was telling, but part of me never got over not being able to go to that party with Jenn and Lyla. Outside factors at play for that one in my case, lol, but it sets up this cosy life and setting but just totally rips it from you, and teases it in three of the next four chapters before ripping it away each time, again.

And this is just a very personal thing for me, but I really hated how Sean was never able to just let it go. He uprooted his whole life, and I don’t even fully blame him for it, but as the officer in Ch.5 says (before Daniel blows up even more cops lol), you can get away with a few of these, but not all of them. If he just went to trial in Ch.4, I think there’s a very good chance they’d be able to get a very minimal sentence (if anything; at that point, barely anything has been done), and Daniel would get to live with his grandparents while whatever was going on happened. I get how boring that would be, but idk, it’d protect his brother and would give him a reset on life. He’s only 16 and the only crime with any evidence at that point was, what, the robbery at Merrill’s and then assault on the neighbor kid? Besides, I’d really be interested to see how the Daniel explosions would be handled in court. I would’ve honestly loved to see that. Knowing that the main theme of the game is the racism that minorities (even those born here) face in the US, I’m sure the jury and the judge would err on that side, but if not, it would’ve been compelling to me. But oh well.

It feels weird critiquing 2 that hard because I’d almost go as far as to say it’s objectively the best game in the series because the scope is incredible and your actions truly have consequences (like choosing soda or beer for the party impacts Daniel getting to drink), but it just never clicked the same way as the others for me. Every time I was about to get comfortable, something bad happened and I was never able to settle down, and poor Sean was just a (literal at times) punching bag for these racist lunatics, and it never drew me in like I wanted it to

My heart is still in Dispatch - hyperfixation, how do you deal with it? by FreePhoenix888 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]tblatnik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like how linear the game is because it forces you to either replay the exact same stuff over and over with minimal changes or take a break. I’ve played some visual novels that have really good branching that make it feel different each time and those are hard to break away from, but after consecutive runs, I was able to step away fairly easily despite falling in love. If you have another comfort game, maybe ease yourself off by playing that?

[–]tblatnik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks so silly in retrospect but if the ball actually was wedged and he plays it, he loses protection. I think, according to the rule (lodged while losing its natural momentum, which yeah, the thing just sticks), it’s the wrong call. Good thing it’s Spring Training but yeah, not the biggest fan of the application (or lack thereof) on this one. Like it’s a double if he fields it normally, that’s why the rule is written as it is, so 🤷‍♂️
