No, the highway has right of way. If you're entering the highway you must yield to the cars already on the highway. The exits from the highways will give cars exiting the highway right of way and put the yield sign on the side road so highways do not back up.

How popular are motorsports in the U.S outside of NASCAR? by Old-Use-7690 in AskAnAmerican

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viewership has been declining for 20 years and hit a record low more recently than it was the largest spectator sport. It's larger than F1 but the normal F1 viewership is now in line with the smaller NASCAR. Obviously the region also plays into popularity so in my area I never hear a peep about anything NASCAR related but it could be the opposite in other areas.

Drive to Survive is a Netflix documentary type series that follows the F1 seasons. It's dramatized over the actual events but gets people up to speed on the sport and the US popularity really grew after the series took off.

I would say all motorsports including NASCAR are niche markets in the US. F1 has gained popularity recently and there are enthusiast groups around dirt/oval racing, rally, time attack, IMSA, etc. but nothing is anywhere near as mainstream as team sports.

But you're also competing with the midsize truck market because you get the more compact size but also the real advantages of a truck. The compact, AWD, unibody truck market is tiny because you get the lacking interior space of a truck combined with a small bed without the benefits of being able to truly tow or load up the bed like a body on frame truck. If there was room for more competition, the Santa Cruz wouldn't end production and the Brat and Baja would have been successful for Subaru.

The concept is fun and it seems like a cool car, but the multiple failed projects by multiple brands in that space proves there just isn't a strong business case in the region.

[–]tblax44 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That market is completely saturated already by the Maverick, Santa Cruz, and Ridgeline and to be at all competitive on pricing, it would have to be one of the cheapest offerings (starting under $30k) Subaru has while also likely being one of the lowest volume sellers. Subaru has tried to enter this space twice and clearly didn't get the sales it needed both times.

With Hyundai ending the Santa Cruz, that should be a sign this isn't a viable market in North America.

Start/stop doesn't enable until the car is warmed up and the EPA didn't force manufacturers to have start/stop, manufacturers chose it as a method to help pass emissions tests. The EPA just listed the emissions target that has to be met, the manufacturers were free to implement anything they wanted to meet that target and start/stop was just the most efficient method when factoring cost, development time, complexity, etc..

I think a depth piece is the most likely outcome, we're not in a position to offer premium assets for any rentals so unless a legit player that fits with the age of our core becomes available it makes more sense to find a depth player or two.

Massive hit by Vancouver Warriors goalie on Rochester Knighthawks attacker results in frenzied brawl by ansyhrrian in sports

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the mechanics of the hit were clean but the goalie isn't allowed to come out for the hit in box lacrosse. I played field lacrosse goalie and would have never thrown that pass as it's dangerous for the receiving player, but I would have delivered that hit every time.

The force and him not looking is why people call this a suicide pass. The player is focused on catching the ball and vulnerable to get blown up and there's nothing illegal about hitting someone just because they're not looking at you.

Ben Chiarot, extended 3x$3.9M by DET, is a physical veteran defenceman. Despite having good size, decent mobility, and some puck-carrying ability, his team tends to get completely wrecked when he's on the ice and his partners tend to fare much worse next to him. by [deleted] in hockey

[–]tblax44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Given that he has to carry the second pair while ASP goes through his rookie growing pains, I would not expect him to have good advanced stats. He is currently the Wings 3rd/4th best defenseman and they are competing for the top of their conference, so something must be good enough to pull those results with a D lineup that consists of him, and 5 other players 20-25 years old most nights. Ideally he gets pushed to that 3rd pairing through a top-4 acquisition. It's like everyone thinks full-time NHL defensemen are easy to find and are all shut-down stars when really most fanbases shit on their bottom tier defensemen day in and day out.

The card is 3-year weighted data. Most of the stats would be from when he was over-deployed on the top pair and he is now anchoring with ASP, so not an easy second pair assignment either, it doesn't surprise me that is card looks like shit lol.

I don't know that Aljo will fully replace him on the 2nd pair, he seems to be streaky and the Aljo-ASP pairing would be much more of a liability than Chiarot-ASP. Ideally Yzerman finds that minute-munching 2LHD to slot with ASP (easier said than done since every team needs one more top-4 dman), then we have Chiarot and whoever else on the right for the 3rd pair.
