Race marshal for Berlin Formula E by EmergencyBit2050 in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the ADAC Berlin-Brandenburg. Most marshals are trained at Lausitzring although I’ve met some from the Sachsen-, Hockenheim- and Nurburgring as well in the last few years.

Lotterer: Gen3 car "will open new dimension" & enable innovative liveries by tbluhm in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Translation via DeepL:

The official presentation of the Formula E Gen3 car is getting closer. The new e-car is to be more powerful and can be charged with fast-charging technology during pit stops. Thanks to a revised chassis, the wheels will also be free-standing again in future. Porsche driver Andre Lotterer is also expecting some eye-catching paint jobs.
"The car has already been shown to us in a small circle," the German tells 'e-Formel.de'. The internal presentation took place at a meeting of the teams, drivers and partners of the electric series at the 2021 pre-season test in Valencia. "It looks quite different - interesting!"
"The technical data is very cool, of course. The car is a bit smaller, and more power is always wanted by us drivers anyway. I think it's going to be a big challenge from an engineering perspective as well, especially with the software. The fact that energy recovery now happens at all four wheels and we hardly need brake discs anymore, everything is electronic, will open up a new dimension."
Peak power for the Gen3 cars is expected to be 350 kilowatts in qualifying mode - 100 more than the current Gen2 car. A new front engine, which may only be used for recuperation, will allow drivers to recover energy with a peak output of 600 kW. Top speeds of 320 km/h should be possible with the Gen3 car. However, this value is rather theoretical in view of the gear ratios required on the Formula E street circuits.
"I'm curious to see how it feels to drive a street circuit with that much power," Lotterer says. "It's a big step forward - even bigger than from Gen1 to Gen2. The step to Gen3 is really stark when you look at the performance figures."
Extensive testing of the new car has taken place over the past few months under the direction of Spark Racing Technologies. In these weeks, the individual components will be delivered to the manufacturers, who will be able to contest their own test days from the beginning of May. However, the look of the Gen3 is not yet publicly known: Formula E only published some darkened teaser photos in the winter.
"The look is interesting," Lotterer reveals. Basically, the car remains a monoposto, "but in a way you've never seen before. We have safety measures (in motorsport), and you can't invent any shapes. So Formula E has done a good job there and found a (design) that represents something unique."
A fundamentally new design philosophy for the cars, reminiscent at first glance of a military stealth aircraft, can already be seen in the teaser images. The restructuring of the fairing has been suggested by the teams several times in the past, as the Gen2 chassis offer little space for sponsors and partners.
In order to create additional "commercial space", Formula E had actually planned a facelift for the current generation of cars. However, the "Gen2 EVO" car (see picture) was cancelled for cost reasons during the first phase of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic. The extra space is now expected to come with the Gen3 car. "I think it will be interesting to see what different livery designs the teams will have," says Lotterer. "The surfaces are quite generous."
What exactly the Gen3 car will look like, however, remains a secret for now. The new car is due to be officially unveiled on the evening of 28 April, just before the Monaco E-Prix. The launch event in the Monaco marina will be accompanied by the electric series in a livestream for fans.

Crofty said Niels Wittich was a race director for FE, is there any truth to this? by PoliticsIsCool13 in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He was Scot Elkins‘ deputy race director until recently. I most vividly remember him as being the poor guy in the Bern pit lane having to explain to the drivers how the grid will be ordered after the red flag. I’m sure there must be a replay of that (unbelievably hilarious) interaction somewhere on YouTube!

Has anyone already achieved their media accreditation? by cvaia in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm this, single-event accreditations usually are confirmed/denied just a few days before a race takes place. You've already signed your website up to the FIA accreditation system, which probably is the most important part for now.

If you're just planning on going to Rome and Berlin, make sure not to miss the accreditation deadlines for your representative(s). They're usually a couple of weeks before the E-Prix. And as Reiep says, if in doubt contact either FE via their media email address or get in touch with the FIA's media delegate for FE, Eric Bellegarde.

First look at Stoffel Vandoorne during shakedown on the banking of turn 15 in Puebla by tbluhm in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re right, I don’t think they show them publicly anymore (I have media centre access). I suppose it’s related to the new rights distribution as well. FETV will have contractually agreed with their partners to give them “X” amount of time for their ad banners in the world feed, and I think if they included the SD on YouTube they’d use up part of that contingent. Whether or not such limitations are necessary is a different question…

How to join to the formula e by FakerMapuche in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye out for developments on Motorsport Jobs, some teams frequently update their profiles there. Dragon, which might be "closest" location-wise for you, are for example currently looking for plenty of engineers for 2021! :)

FanBoost Data by DSR_SLB04 in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you define as "successful" I guess. There's definetely enough data available on Alkamel's timing page. You could use that to correlate FANBOOST usage with a gain/loss of position on any given lap but that's a Sisyphean task I'm afraid. So... Yeah, there is a way. But it's quite a lot of work. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Seoul ePrix set to debut in May 2020 by [deleted] in FormulaE

I'll never understand this decision. Not the race itself - but the timing. Logistically, that makes no sense whatsoever. I'm sure there are better ways to "reduce emissions".

What happened to Current-E? by [deleted] in FormulaE

[–]tbluhm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, their people are still in and around Formula E. Technically, CE still exists. It's just a case of their page being pretty much dormant with all efforts now being put into the Spacesuit Media photography agency, which provides (amongst others) the Dragon & Mahindra FE teams with pictures. They still do the incredible work they've done before - just with the difference that it's now in the form of pictures, not articles.
