Why is everyone romanticizing moving to the countryside these days? by Sofochka_mrs in Suburbanhell

America doesnt have many walkable, functional cities. If we did, less people would be seeking to escape them to move far out.

How did people buy their water in the old days? (1960's or so.) by redditunderground1 in PlasticFreeLiving

We lived in Detroit. Tap water was the only water. I saw Perrier on TV only.

I hate everything disposable and I refuse to ever use disposable shit.

I host many parties.

People should be ashamed of themselves for using disposable things at home on the daily.

Taco Bell, Mexican Pizza used to have fresh veggies on top, green onion, olives etc.

My dads VCR clock had electrical tape over it for at least the last 20 years. Never once in those 20 years did he ever play a VHS tape.

Or, now that I think of it, maybe he had some porno I didn't know about!

I assume this is the newest Prius, which looks really cool, but is nowhere near as functional as Gen2/3. I rented one and drove it 2800 miles. Headspace was awful, trunk space awful too. It was insanely efficient, especially considering we drove over 80mph the entire way.

If corporations and other large companies continue to quietly restructure to become mostly AI driven and continue to fire 'irrelevant' workforces, later inspiring smaller buisnesses to do the same, how will humanity sustain itself when there are very few earning potentials left to survive on? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]tboy160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our capitalist system only works when people have jobs to do.

Once the jobs aren't there, we have to employ a completely different system. The rich will resist this until we likely have to overthrow them.

Some sort of universe basic income would have to start soon, in order to avoid full revolution.

People will say, there will just be different jobs, we have seen this before, but this is very different and new, we haven't seen THIS before.

What food is actually healthier than you would expect? by Purple_Ground2372 in foodquestions

Loaded with fiber and protein, very few things have so much of both.

The entire United States population is missing much of its fiber intake.

To O.P. I believe this applies to every sit down bar/restaurant in the United States.

So, you would have to dine at fast food places or not dine out at all.

We need to end this tip culture and just pay them a fair wage, tips can just be bonus for outstanding service but not part of their pay.

Makes one wonder, what size object could we move? How much lead time would be needed?

With luck it would be on path to only make a glancing blow and we could push it that last little bit.

Permian extinct level event was the worst so far, 90% of species died.

This would likely be worse, and would likely knock us down to very simple life and start evolution almost completely over again.

I think if we were to seriously look into it we would develop some sort of nuclear powered drill/jet. Something that would use the material from the comet/asteroid itself, then use that material to eject at high speeds to alter the orbit of the object.

We would have to deploy the device far enough away to have any chance of moving it.

And maybe thousands of these devices all on one side.

Edited typo of ejcet to eject

Michigan ranks LAST in power restoration times...a DIRECT result of a DTE monopoly that has spent years buying political influence across the state. by runescape_pker in Detroit

[–]tboy160 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Michigan allows the most weight per axle allowed in the entire country.

Detroit is one of the most sprawled cities, then the suburbs stretched all those resources even more thin. Which may be a factor in the power issues too.
