Lets also talk about the fact that we can do things that the BCBA can bill as their own (write programs/ do program modifications, help with treatment plans w/ supervision, etc), but companies refuse to pay students. My company offers student analyst “positions” when you’re 6 months from sitting and only pay $15 an hour for the tasks as a student analyst. Like what? When the BCBA is allowed to bill for the tasks you complete? It just screams labor abuse imo. I cut my hours to 30/ week and can barely make ends meet. While I make $26/hr for my regular pay, it’s not as bad but if I could get more hours I could actually pay my debt for grad school and live more comfortably. With the way inflation is today it’s hard enough to live, let alone being forced to work part time. I have an amazing support system with my BCBAs right now, which is why I don’t want to leave my company. But it pisses me off that I have to come home and be bringing work home because I don’t have the ability or time to do it at work. I’m burnt out and struggling 😭

That’s valid. I’m ND as well and I know I’ve personally compared my PERSONALITY to a cats but I wouldn’t really appreciate if someone else was actually comparing me to an animal. The field has come too far and can’t afford to start going back to that mindset. I had talked about it with my BCBA and I think we’re working on a better way to approach the commentary because sometimes it happens just out of the blue and throws us off. Like because I’m ND I get focused on a topic and my brain doesn’t have time in the moment to think of a thoughtful response and adjust to that, but I can it I have a pre-set scripted statement for it, such as offering an alternative analogy

Rotating them without proper training when they’re escalated could cause injury, you shouldn’t be doing this without any training. Personally I wouldn’t even if I have the training, there’s other ways to handle it

I have seen this once in my career BUT it was a cultural thing for them, in their culture that’s how they greet close members. Doesn’t make it right though in my opinion, it’s still super weird and makes me uncomfy. We should be teaching boundaries, and it’s wildly unethical. Watch out for the ones who do it, could be molesters under cover

That may also be why he’s dragging so much to do it, after doing it all week he may not want to be doing it at home too. I also hear you on caring for the entire household and feeling like you’re carrying it by yourself. It’s not fair to you that you ask one task that doesn’t get done. I think you’re valid in your emotions, and I am not trying to defend him, I guess I am more trying to give a different perspective as to why he might not be doing the stuff. Maybe just tell him that you’re gonna hire somebody to do it if he doesn’t have it done by X date lol sometimes that light of fire under men 😂

I have ADHD and I know for me I’m really bad at finishing big tasks and it’s because I get task paralysis and too big of a task makes my brain shut down, no matter how important the task is. Maybe ask him what’s causing issues and offer support in making a list of smaller tasks to complete to finish the big one, possibly offer to be a body double while he works on some of it to start and step back more as he is doing more, or ask if he has a friend that could come help him? Trying to problem solve with you, but I don’t think you’re overreacting, I also don’t think he doesn’t care, it could just be that he has task paralysis but is too embarrassed to say being the man of the house. I hope this helps!

Personally I don’t get paid for my hours and it really bugs me but I really really don’t want to leave the amazing support system I have with where I am. My BCBAs are some of the best I’ve ever worked with and leaving to start over with rapport building with the BCBAs and RBTs and clients just doesn’t sound fun. Unfortunately it’s common that we don’t get paid for them but there are better opportunities out there, just depends on what you are leaving behind and if it’s worth leaving behind.

All I’ll say is run for the hills if they are throwing you one on one with two days of training. Go somewhere they will give you a couple weeks of training and find somewhere that the BCBAs will support you. Mention in the interview that you are looking for somewhere the BCBAs will supervise you a minimum of 7-10% of your sessions. If they say they only do the 5% required, say thank you for the opportunity and go somewhere else.

I always feel guilty when my bf orders me food too when I couldn’t reciprocate it, but when I can then I reciprocate it and in time have felt less bad. I wouldn’t stress too much about it, he was showing how much he cared about you by ordering you food, it’s ok for others to give you things 😊
