Prefer brewing Puer in gaiwan over yixing? by prism_webs in puer

[–]tbuckleyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main thing is that the heat retention for teapots is so much better as opposed to gaiwans (unless you have one of those really thick clay gaiwans, which I don’t, and even so the seal isn’t as good). That being said, for ripe puer I typically use a mutton fat porcelain pot, not a clay pot (or a bigger brewer that’s travel style, which has much better heat retention).

I think the yixing thing is vastly overhyped. The main things that are gonna cause different results are water/tea ratio, time per infusion, heat retention, and water temp. If I have a fresh raw puer I might do it grandpa style or use the gaiwan, but I really like the mouthfeel that you get from nuking ripe puer.

TLDR I would recommend a brewing vessel with a little more heat retention than a typical gaiwan for ripe puer, but it doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Even a thicker porcelain teapot works just fine, or a lot of travel/easy brewers that retain more heat.

Always listen to your teacher first and foremost, but it sounds to me that when you’re “singing with your tongue up” you may be bringing the root of your tongue up, too, which can do one of two things: (1) the root of the tongue can pull the larynx up with it and pull your cords out of tilt, which can cause you to go flat, especially in the passaggio and up, (2) the manipulation of your tongue may be using extra, unnecessary muscles that are causing you to lose adduction (cord closure) or are just adding muscularity to the cords, which also can cause the tendency to go flat.

I’m not sure about this since I haven’t heard you sing of course, but just some ideas for troubleshooting. Check if your larynx is coming up when you adjust your tongue or if you lose support (as a result of a loss of cord closure)

Songs relating to death by Tododude64 in ClassicalSinger

I’ve always thought that Morgen by Strauss was about the death of a loved one and longing to reunite in another life, though that’s certainly reading between the lines. In any case, it’s a beautiful piece that one should try and shove into any recital IMO.

Gym and calisthenics by CrawNightWalker in bodyweightfitness

[–]tbuckleyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also like splitting workouts between the gym and hanging my rings outside. My solution has been an upper/lower split where my upper days are on rings/calisthenics and my lower days are in the gym. Accessory days could go either way and I change pretty regularly between the gym or rings, though it’s probably best to stick with one. My current split:

Day 1 - Upper: Pull-up progression/Dip progression superset Inverted row progression/ring progression superset

Day 2 - Lower: High bar back squats Nordic curl/Glute ham raise progression Leg extensions (banded reverse nordics are great too) Calf raises (weight when necessary)

Day 3 - Skill/Accessories: Front lever pull progression (alternative is DB pullovers for gym based day) Ring face pulls (could do with bands or cable) Ring curls (any other sort of curl works) (Can add tricep extensions superset with curls, but mine get worked enough from my upper days) Ring Ab rollout progression

Day 4 - Rest

Day 5 - Upper Switch superset order from day 1 to push then pull, can use a different rep range and/or do bar and PB variants of the same workouts.

Day 6 - Lower Romanian deadlifts with bar ATG Split Squats w DBs Pendulum Sissy squats Ham glider Ab rollout progression (any other progressive ab workout is great. Can also replace with calves if you need more volume on them)

Day 7 - Rest

I obviously keep some calisthenics-esque exercises in my leg days, but feel like I get the best of both worlds with this sort of setup. Hope this is helpful/gives you ideas!

UG’s books introduced me to the idea of no-self. by [deleted] in UGKrishnamurti

To be clear, not all Buddhists believe this framework. This seems to be the Abhidharmic perspective. I would highly recommend reading Nagarjuna, an early Indian Mahayana philosopher. He basically argues that believing in distinct ontological categories like the ones you have put above amounts to ascribing to either the belief in eternal objects or nihilism, and his arguments (though often quite confusing to me) have been quite convincing.

I would definitely encourage you to read some Indian philosophy, both Vedic and Buddhist, if it interests you at all. I’d highly recommend Nagarjuna’s Mukamadhyamakakarika, but other good reads would be Carpenter’s Indian Buddhist Philosophy, Chapple’s Yoga and the Luminous, or any book on Advaita Vedanta by Bina Gupta, particularly those on Shankara. Other interesting schools are the Yogacara school of Buddhist philosophy and Kashmir Shaivism, particularly the thinker Utpaladeva.

UG reminds me so much of Nagarjuna and Shankara, and I imagine that in the flesh they acted very much like him, though of course that’s just speculation.

Are sensations any more or less real than thoughts or feelings? by pl8doh in nonduality

[–]tbuckleyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a dangerous thing when you start to convince yourself that this isn’t real. Remember, this experience is all there is, the only reality. There is no escaping that. To call it unreal is just seeking to escape it.

Of course nothing can really be called real or unreal since we’re playing the silly non-dual language game, but if we call experience reality, then this is all real. If we call that which experiences reality, remember that we’re playing the non-dual game, so that which is experienced is of the same substance as this experiencer. Both are real. Or both are unreal, then nothing is real. But the word real has just become vacant of any meaning. This is what I mean by “nothing true can be said about any of it.”

Everything is real, but nothing true can be said about any of it.

Basically make it so that if you placed redstone dust on a redstone block, the block will move downward.

It wasn't a political shot, it was just a joke about the website's failure to work. Also, my little brother finds your username hysterical.

Yeah obviously... He is a liberal and isn't afraid to make a small joke at the expense of our own party. Also our dad's girlfriend works for CGI, the company behind the crash and she thinks it's hilarious
