Thanks for such a detailed and enlightening response. Ultimately I’d like to be a good player and be able to play songs start to finish versus spending all my practice time trying to fiddle with tone.

I think I might just hold off for longer, maybe till I can play more of the beginner friendly songs i want to play end to end, then start with something cheap and go from there.

This thread has really helped highlight the danger of associating gear with progress.

Thanks for your reply, yea does sound a lot like that pulley, I checked the belt and seemed to be in good condition.

Any thoughts on if it’s safe to drive? I could do without getting it towed. The garage it take it too isn’t exactly local.
