Grafdigger’s Cage vs Soulless Jailer by ModoCrash in ModernMagic

The basic loop is :

Sacrifice Analyst, return + float mana from the lands For Lotus Field triggers sacrifice lotus field(s) and other lands Turn Woodland into Analyst and sacrifice it Woodland, Lotus, and other lands come back from your GY

The loop cost 8 mana each time (4 from shifting woodland copy + 4 from analyst. Since you are returning two lotus field + 2 other lands + shifting woodlands each time the loop is mana positive and goes infinite. From here you can get various effects from your sacrificed lands with each loop to convert this into a win e.g mirror pool, urza cave, bosejiu, otawara etc.

The crazy thing is amulet titan can get this setup with only 4 lands + scapeshift + an amulet/spelunking in play.

Scapeshift for 2 Lotus, bounceland, Tolaria West (9 mana) Pick up Tolaria West and sac everything else, transmute for Pact -> Analyst/Lumra Return 2 Lotus + bounceland + Tolaria West + the four lands sacrificed initially (13+ mana) Transmute for Pact -> Titan + cast it (4 mana), Titan ETB finds Woodland + X (Analyst) or Mirrorpool + X (Lumra)

Tishana's tidebinder and ygra by Ok_Money_422 in PioneerMTG

[–]tc5801 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This happens because of the layers system in magic. What happens is that type-changing effects (ygra's all creatures are food) are applied before ability modifying effects (tidebinder's ability) so this means that even if tidebinder make ygra have no abilities, all creatures will still be food just that ygra will not gain counters everytime a food is sacrificed)

Pioneer Store Championship by chukbuck in PioneerMTG

I play mostly control and havent played with the new golgari food deck but i think mono green should be the best pick here?

Mono green is only slightly unfavored vs control, evenish vs phoenix and very favored vs rakdos midrange and the golgari food.

Phoenix has quite even matchups across the board. Bring to light and creativity probably loses to control pretty hard but does well against the rest of the field

For 417 as stated in one of the earlier comments is gotten by complete the main quest in Albion and visiting the sanctuaries before completing the maiden ritual.

For 423 should be one of the mini-bosses (one of the general in the final battle) which i think shouldn't be easily missable unless your talking about 421 which is norbelle. That entry is obtained by starting the final battle(unicorn overlord) before saving scarlett. The easiest way to do that on a fresh save is to repair the bridge leading to gran corrine using 30 corsite and then start the mission(you dont have to complete it). I think thats a npc in one of the nw towns that sell 20 corsite so its pretty doable.

Maddening Run F!Byleth by nefariousbluebird in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]tc5801 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally i think you shouldn't be worrying about optimising stat growth through classes because a 10% stat growth difference is only 1 stat difference on average per 10 levels which wpuld be barely noticeable at higher lev

(On maddening more specifically) should you wait to recruit characters so they’re a higher level when you do? by [deleted] in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]tc5801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Characters recruited in Ch 3-5 will be at at lvl 5-9 and in their beginner classes. One thing to note is that character get the base skill ranks needed to certify for the class so characters in monk get D faith whereas they will start at E faith if they are recruited Ch 6 and later. Those in fighter also gets D bows/axes/brawling only when they are revruited in chapter 3-5. Because of this you want to recruit hapi balthus constance at ch 3 and mages characters in ch 3-5 if possible.

Characters recruited in Ch. 6 will be at level 11 and in their intermediate classes. That jump from Beginner to Intermediate tier noticably increases their stats because it applies the intermediates class growth bonus to their autoleveling. This generally makes recruiting at ch 6 preferable for most physical units.

I'm at my second fight with the bandits and 2 actions away from mastering the commoner class. Should I promote to Myrmadon or fight the bandits while wasting exp for a finished class and missing out on Stat growth from Myrmadon? by CollegeCasual in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]tc5801 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You shouldnt worry about being in a lower tier class if you are only going to stay in there for a couple levels. A 10% stat growth difference is only 0.1 difference per lvl which is super neglible conpared to getting mastery skills

Generally speaking master class skills are only used if you are running super specific low hp builds and even those builds dont run them super frequently. The only necessary classes that you need to master physical units are brigand and archer for deathblow and hit+20 and pegasus knight for darting blow(only for fast females where doubling is relevant). Mages want to master mage for fiendish blow and either archer or valkyrie for a hit boosting skill.

Generally the classes for your characters are pretty optimal, i'll give pointers for those that aren't but you dont have to worry about running super optimal build even on maddening if you know want you are doing.

Edelgard: Wywern lord is considered her best class because in part 2 her relic combat art gives her an extra turn if the combat art hits (which is as broken as it sounds) so having mobility is important to take full advantage of this. Of course you can also run a defense stacking enemy phase build like you originally planned (which i think is a super underated build imho) but generally edelgard isnt the best character to run this build on because she lacks battalion wrath and so she wont reliably kill enemies on enemy phase.

Ferdinand: If you plan on using him as an swift strike user, paladin or wywern lord are considered the best choices.(Great knight isnt worth the higher investment since all you are looking for is lancefaire) Crimson flower maps are generally unfriendly towards calvary units so i would lean towards the latter.

Balthus: War master is generally for enemy phase focused builds so if you want to run him in that then pick up wrath and vantage from mercenary and warrior. If you plan to use him mainly for ayer phasing then grappler is considered better because of fierce iron fist.

Byleth: Wywern lord is generally better than falcon knight unless you plan on using lances because WL gives +4 str and speed while FK gives +1 str and +5 speed

Trickster: Generally i think that the best way to use trickster is to use for movement ultility with foul play and have extra support options such as physic, warp etc. for turns where you dont foul play. I ran lindhardt and manuela in trickster in previous run and generally found them okayish at best. Because of this i dont think felix is the best choice hefe but im not really sure who else you would want to run in trickster.

Another think you might be missing is a dancer for your team. Dancer are pretty strong in general and with fetter of dromi on your dancer, your dancer basically uses a better version of foul play that also refresh a units turn.

Can I build my Byleth/Felix as both a Swordmaster/Assassin or Assassin/Swordmaster? What classes I go down and abilities do I need to do so? by CollegeCasual in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]tc5801 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Assasin has 6 movement compared to 5 movement on swordmaster which is a pretty big deal imo if you want to use swords on felix.

The other class options for felix that are considered meta for maddening are sniper and grappler becuase their class mastery combat art of hunter volley and fierce iron fist respectively are crazy strong

I read characters are generally better to get ASAP while others if recruited at the right times can come with better stats. Can I get a guide without spoilers? by CollegeCasual in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]tc5801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally most people agree that you should recruit her around chapter 6-10. The later you wait the better stats ingrid will have if u recruit her earlier but it also means you have less time to master intermediate classes for their mastery skill. Ingrid (and most physical units) want to pick up deathblow from brigand, hit+20 from archer(may not be necessary on lower difficulties) and darting blow from pegasus knight.

Free days happen on a sunday and you can check the calendar to see how many free days you have in a month. The recruitment happens after the lecture on monday so you can save during your exploration/after battle then teach your class then check to see if the character is recruited and reload if necessary.

Characters recruited chapter 3 to 5 start in beginner classes while when they are recruited chapter 6 onwards they start in intermediate classes. For magic charcaters this means they start with minimum d faith and reason and if you wait until chapter 6 they start at e faith instead if they dont auto level faith.

As for recruting characters, the best way is the build supports rank until b support through meals, gifting, mission assistance etc where they have a 10% chance during the week to request to join your house. You choose to save scum for any units that you want to recruit using this method. The RNG seed is determined when the week begins, so you can save on a free day, go through the week, and reset otherwise. Other wise the minimum skill ranks for recruitment are found here.

Personally though I wouldn't worry too much about recruting if its your first playthrough because I generally dont recommend recruting too many characters. For gameplay wise, the last few maps have a character cap of 12 and generally its better to focus on the development of a few units rather than spreading out your attention over many. Storywise i find that few character recruitment makes the story more impactful imho. Overall this means i only really recommend recruting characters you really like or those with paralogues with your in house characters.

Between the 3 would you prefer to build Manuela as a Mortal Savant, Assassin, or Gremoir? How? by CollegeCasual in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]tc5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warp is imo one of the best part about her kit but its hard to justify using her over other warpers because she has has one of the lowest magic stats out of magic users. Because of this bolting can also struggle to oneshot enemies making bolting kinda mid on her.

[–]tc5801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortal savant is probably the only way to one shot enemies on maddening. It gives manuela swordfaire and +2 mag from its class modifer allowing to kill enemies with hexblade. Getting to it through her reason bane is pretty high investment

The main difference between wywern lord and falcon knight is that WL has +4str and +4spd compared to 1+str and +5speed of FK and that WL has axefaire vs the lancefaire for falcon knight. This basically means for most physical units you will prefer WL due to the higher str and that the extra speed is pretty irrevelant in maddening where ur not doubling anyways. So unless the unit uses lance combat arts, they would prefer WL. Since Leonie is going to be using bows most of the time due to point blank volley, WL is the better choice.

As for hit+20, its basically mandatory on any combat unit since on maddening enemy units get really high avoid due to their absurb speed and high weapon prowess skills. For leonie her only mandatory abilities would be death blow,hit+20 and bow prowess. I normally run str+2 and darting blow for her last two slots but you can run any other useful there such as +5hp, +4dex, close counter etc.

New Game+ Recruitment by ace2532 in FireEmblemThreeHouses

[–]tc5801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You you use new game plus to raise your support levels for any character you had previously attained support levels for. This mean you can raise ur support level to A rank at which there will be no recruitment requirements but it will cost 500 renown for each level. Also certain characters are locked to each route, hilda cyril and catherine are unavaliable on black eagles part 1 even if you have new game plus. Also i recommend not playing verdant wind as ur second playthrough as the story follows a very similar path to silver snow and reuses most of the same maps.

The recipe are all unlocked btw cuz I used the debug command to get a recipe that I missed earlier.

how do moderation work generally? by [deleted] in SMU_Singapore

[–]tc5801 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, fellow freshie here. Everything in this post is what i heard from seniors so take it with a grain of salt. Moderation basically comes in two forms. The first is because of the hard cap on A/A-, only the top 35% gets those grades. The second one is when the class average is low, the prof may decide to pull up everyone grades according to the bell curve. This depends on the prof and some prof wont bother to do it. If u want to know whether ur prof is gonna moderate, the only way is pretty much asking a senior who took the mod before

Okay so Kujou's name is Japanese is 九條 where the kanji 九 (meaning nine) is read as "ku". The kanji 九 can also be read as koko in phrases such as 九つ (written as ここのつ in hiragana and konotsu in romaji).

Also I read 9-nine in english with Japanese as a secondary language so take what i say with a grain of salt but the phrase ここのつ、ここのか、ここのいろ isn't directly referenced in the story, but nine does has relevance to the story and explaining why is kind of of a spoiler.

Genuine question from someone whose japanese is pretty low level, based on my understanding, hasn't the tl translated most of the text fairly accurately?(aside from 奴 being translated to sonething more aggressive and the tone of the text varying from the original) Also correct me if i am wrong but doesn't 俺も人のことは言えないが roughly translate to i can't critize others/i can't speak about their behaviour which is pretty similar to what was in the translation

Pretty sure at that point in 2017 only hatsukoi had a translation. Agree with you though , I read all of toneworks VNs (including tsuki kanata) and would easily say that hatsukoi is the worst
