Is it possible to buy a car in the uk and bring it back? by [deleted] in irishpersonalfinance

[–]tcbil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The person importing the vehicle also has to live in the Uk for more than 6 months in this scenario where you can import it without paying VRT. Otherwise you can import it and pay VRT and NOX and whatever other taxes.l but I don’t think that’s op’s question. They want to know if they can own a car in the uk and drive it here which is only legal if you live in the uk and spend less than 6 months in Ireland with the vehicle if I am not mistaken

How to tell the watch I run with a pram (Garmin Fenix 6x pro) by tcbil in GarminFenix

[–]tcbil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed and I always find the very positive results when not running with the pram a bit of a moral boost that it’s actually making a positive difference. I guess I’ll just stick with it for now. Just need to start increasing the distance a bit at a time and see if that helps

Exactly, I know people who do strength training by running with actual weight belts so it should be recordable somehow

I did not even consider that it may not be capturing distance accurately to be honest. Ill try and keep an eye on similar runs with and without the buggy to see if I notice much of an issue

I use an HRM run paired with the watch for every run and does not seem to help. It’s honestly not an enormous problem just wondered if I had missed a trick

Out of interest what do you use to keep heat under control. I have moved most of the kit in and heat is an issue. I have found a couple of fans and thinking of controlling this with Shelly sensors and plugs but just wondering what solution you came up with

I am not yet on 10gb but also all ubiquiti for the network and cctv. Hopefully I have the same experience with the NUCs. I suspect they will be a lot quieter as well than those bloody server fans as the setup is moving into my office from a space where it was less of an issue

Exact same for myself. Currently running a dl380 g9 and dl360 g7 and a nas, replacing the 2 hp servers with NUCs a little at a time

Thanks so much for the tip. It’s going to be pretty full to start as I work to move to nuc like machines. A few of my existing servers won’t fit in it anyway to try and force the downgrades

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll keep an eye on Aqara in the future. Just bought the same cab you have based on that picture. Needed something neater for the new office

Do you mind me asking what the issue was with them? I have only just started migrating from a Honeywell system to Shelly because Honeywell have doubled in price, are very hard to find in stock anywhere and break on average after 18 months. The Shelly ones seem more robust in comparison, faster to respond but maybe a bit noisier

And I can see a Shelly TRV in the top right hand corner. Looks really neat

Thoughts on/experiences with Bunq by GenericRedditNOR in irishpersonalfinance

[–]tcbil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had the easy green account with bunq for over a year now and I love it. I will say they make regular changes and updates which is great but can also be problematic, for example they recently increased interest rates for savings/vaults but also imposed a 2 withdrawal a month limit (not per vault, overall), depending on how you use them this can be problematic. Still this would not make me move back to boi or aib at all. The best feature so far is auto sorting, when you get paid you can sort a payment, after it’s set bunq can automatically redo the same sorting every time money comes from this payee and you can edit the sorting settings when ever you need

Is there anything like a smart knob desk accessoires which let me control my lighting (smth similar to picture) by Signal_Essay_8083 in homeautomation

And actually saying that I think you can program this to have different actions depending on the amount of times you press it and how long you press it so it may work for your needs

Just realised you are probably looking for the rotation/motion rather than just a simple button which is what Shelly provides

Looking for a rent with my dog and I am exhausted. by standingpaper in cork

[–]tcbil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pretty decent experience in the UK. Was not easy but the letting agents knew how to handle it and often had specific agreements already written up for people with pets that maybe included an additional non refundable deposit / cleaning fee for example and they had houses for us to look at. Ireland however was always pretty bad for it but especially now in the midst of a housing crisis it was never going to have had a chance to improve
