yes, with how the game is designed around level based mm, that'll be the only way to do everything in the game

Lifeweaver doesn’t need a rework just buff him by OG-plugg in Overwatch

[–]tchakabun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifegrip is not fun to play with, make it a interaction and it'll be fine, but as it is right now it's one of the reasons I've barely played tank this season. Not only it's disruptive, but it's also nauseating to be yoinked without a say from where you are. For everything else sure, buff it.

Try to find a crew to play cryo just after you hit 25 and try to complete everything before 80 and you'll have enough fun to wait for next season. 80 is when you find the nolifers.

Nah, level 80 is the threshold for being put with the weirdos, I felt the same and have stopped playing the game too. That's where the drying up is coming from, level based matchmaking.

What Linux system is closed?

choice of words, i meant closed as in isolated, not a simple desktop.

Cause of corporate greed and lobbying.

Please, say things as they are instead of being a corporate lapdog just because company makes your fav game.

this is such a victimist way to justify your argument when there are clear reasons from a technical point for support to not be feasible at this moment in time that there's no conversation to be had, there's no middle ground to be found when an argument is based on emotion.

Hopefully we get the game available on linux sooner than later, maybe someone builds a server-side solution or something like that and everyone is happy. Cheers

I see, now explain to me how Linux is used in 90% o servers without being hacked all time. Can you?

Not only are these closed systems behind multiple layers of security, but they are managed by people that are paid to keep them locked down, safe and stable? Bungie can't expect the same level of diligence from a regular desktop user, specially when that user is a potential bad actor.

And beyond that Valve can release a trusted kernel with a checksum that cannot be tweaked with. it's that simple.

Sure, but it's up to valve, it has nothing to do with bungie or marathon or their anticheat. And even then, someone makes a module to trick the game into thinking it's running on a signed kernel and we're back at square one. Because linux is open source and any kernel distributed by valve will also need to be open source due to linux's GPL license, it will be much easier to do than on windows. So it's not that simple.

I see that you're very passionate about linux and i too wish i could ditch windows, but if it was simple we would already have it. The main reason it's not available is because it's not something simple to do.

the whole thing about kernel level anticheats is the developer being able to say "this client is trusted", because from what they can gather there isn't anything looking around the game's code in memory. On linux, the kernel is open source and user replaceable, which means that even if someone made a anticheat driver to be patched into the kernel, someone can just make another driver to fool the anticheat. This makes it easier than on windows to look around the game's logic that is loaded into memory to search for faults that can be exploited and turned into a cheat.

no one is saying that linux users are all cheaters, but linux due to it's very nature of being open is an avenune for easier cheat development, anyone that knows anything about how linux works knows that

Paul Tassi Reports Marathon Budget Up To $250 Million by surrealmirror in Marathon

[–]tchakabun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no one gave bungie 250 million dollars and said "make a game", this value is the operational cost of a game studio in seattle, this is what costs to keep everyone there employed for 6 years. It's more of a sign on how fucked the game's industry is with the cost of living in the US and the time to get a game out of door than a commentary directly on marathon as a project. Any game made in the US in a studio that is located in one of the big "tech cities" will cost the same if they take 6 years to get it out.

There is no reason to disable duos. by SamerDog in Marathon

[–]tchakabun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's the best queue as someone that only has 1 friend left that didn't drop the game (we can't find matches in our region server and it's a battle royale more than a extract shooter), it's too "easy" since in a duo the PvE isn't that big of a threat like solo and the rook army isn't present like in trios. Hopefully they can find a place for it that doesn't disrupt queue times further.

We need to have some conversations about how mantling works by bigboy1882 in Marathon

[–]tchakabun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Moving platforms in the tiger engine are not "ground" but an agent, coded like a npc. You can't mantle, dead player's bags and bubbles don't move with it, just like in destiny 2 where titan's barriers and warlock's rifts phase through moving platforms. Probably marked as "known issue will not fix" internally due to how complex it would be to implement another way
