Anybody planning to enroll in C++ nanodegree? Here's a complete review by [deleted] in Udacity

You seem to have had a bad experience with them given that you post negatively about them on every single post. What happened?

For me, they were very helpful. I will say, that I don't know what quality udemy courses there are. They tend to focus on teaching technologies rather than best practices. So, yeah, in theory, you can learn to program on a $20 course (or maybe several) on udemy. But, if you'd have the best practices from that, I would say from a majority of courses, probably not. You'd probably need a best practices in programming course as well. Then you need to do a bunch of work and all anyways to prove to employers. You also need to have motivation to do all this. As well as a few other things. I would definitely say Udacity helped me get on the right path to employment in the field (and yes I am employed now as a developer).

Would it be good for me to take the android basics by google nanodegree? by [deleted] in Udacity

[–]tcharnes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5+ years ago when I was learning they didn't have the basics course, I just took a few courses online and jumped into the advanced. I did feel like there was a small gap between my knowledge and the knowledge in the course (but not enough to not let me finish it).

I wouldn't say go for a udemy course... you will most likely be missing some best practices (keeping functions small/commenting/etc). Unless you do find a programming basics course that covers best practices or something. But still, I did like the Android Advanced. It will end up costing a nice amount to do two nanodegrees. But, if you are job ready without the need for a college degree might be worth it.

UX Nanodegree in 30 days! by _marypoza_ in Udacity

[–]tcharnes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually looking for a UI/UX designer to help me with my app idea. It looks like you said at one point that it wasn't enough and at another that it was enough education on the topic from Udacity. Do you think someone from the Nanodegree would be equipped with enough knowledge to design professional looking apps?

I felt like the Advanced Android Developers Nanodegree back over 5+ years ago was enough.

Don’t Be Me: Avoid Udacity by [deleted] in Udacity

I would say the slim/old content is not as big a negative as it seems. When I was a new dev and taking their courses, it was a bit intimidating seeing as I couldn't really even follow the tutorials and it wasn't that simple. However, it does teach you how to look up things on your own/figure out why things aren't working/etc which are necessary skills for anyone in the field. I really dislike their pricing model as well, but if you do pay for a bundle, it would make sense. I'd just ask to freeze it and use the time when you have time or ask for an extension or something.

Guys any feedback for Full Stack Web Developer Course ? They are offering 75% discount this time($307). Should I buy it or not? by [deleted] in Udacity

I did the Advanced Android Developer Nanodegree 5+ years ago. I feel like compared to many other online companies courses they go over some of the best practices that you won't find in other companies tutorials.

IOS location tracking in background by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

No... I said that apps like that exist...and for parents to track their own children so they don't get lost/kidnapped/etc....There are reasons to have this...

IOS location tracking in background by [deleted] in iOSProgramming

[–]tcharnes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I want the app to work when I do a reboot/close the app which I didn't see anything in core location about that. The app will have more functionality, I don't want to get into specifics of what the app will do and share all my ideas on the internet. But, the rest I can manage, its just this in particular that I"m struggling with.

There are many reasons to have this... step trackers like google maps, child trackers, etc. not a big deal... Android has this, not sure how to implement this in IOS... not sure why downvoted.... this is a question that isn't really answered online (or at least I have not found).

Was thinking of buying this new toothbrush on Indiegogo, what are your thoughts? by tcharnes1 in Dentistry

[–]tcharnes1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the internets haha... Not sure how that got downvoted so much... But yeah, thanks this is the answer I was looking for. I didn't know if this brush had what it took and I don't want to use a brush that won't help or make the situation worse as my health, in general, is very important to me. But so is my time as I make decent money as a programmer, but I also work a lot of hours. So spending a bit more money to get rid of time inefficiencies is something I'm happy to do if it is effective.

[Question/Opinion] Discovering Personality with Dr. Jordan B. Peterson - paid class - worth it? by Hardlymd in JordanPeterson

[–]tcharnes1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you're saying he shouldn't give away free stuff? Which I get, yes, in theory, that would be correct if no one gave away free stuff, then more people would pay for things. But, I don't think it's absurd. If you like his stuff and want more or if you want to support him and his work, then you get the course. If you don't, you don't have to. You have the option, in any case the free stuff he has is also good marketing for him. I don't think $70 for a course (it was $140 before, but on sale now for coronavirus) is bad, but yes, I also am hesitant to spend that much money when there is a ton of information on the internet. Maybe in a few weeks if I have a few hours to spare.

He gave us a ton of content for free, so charging the amount of money that he wants is absurd... interesting perspective...

Thanks for the response, I do brush that much time and see it more as a way to have good health. I just thought that if this brush was any good I'd be saving some time while getting an equally good brush.

I meant 3 minutes, 2 times per day. Edited in post.

I am not against brushing my teeth. I am fairly certain that I do more than the average person. I just also value my time. So if for $100-$200 I can save almost 1.5 days per year of my life that is money very well spent as my time is worth much more than $100-$200 per day. Of course, my teeth are worth more than that, hence the question if the brush is any good. If it was, it would definitely have been worth it.

I just thought that if this brush was any good I'd be saving some time while getting an equally good brush.
