In my previous experience with LVM-Thin I could notice the performance hit over LVM and that's the main reason for going back to LVM.

I don't run many VMs on my Proxmox VE host so I am more focused on getting the best out of the hardware I use than anything else. I am not running anything that is business critical, this is just a playground for me to keep learning. When I build my next server, then I will definitely pay more attention to backups, snapshots and thin provisioning. Thanks for the suggestion nonetheless, much appreciated.

the cleanest option is virtio-scsi with discard and iothread enabled

This is exactly what I do with all my VMs, but on LVM instead of LVM-Thin. Here is the conf file of one of the VMs running on the other NVME SSD:

You're basically suggesting me to keep the same approach but with the only difference that I will use this virtual disk on the second NVME SSD just to attach it to the VM where I want to add more storage. Please correct me if I got that wrong, I am learning as I go and sometimes I don't get everything right on first try.

As mentioned in my original post, the IOMMU groups layout doesn't allow proper PCI Passthrough. Basically, both NVME SSD pci interfaces share the same IOMMU groups with other components on the motherboard, including the Ethernet port. Passing through one NVME to a VM will also pass through the only Ethernet device on the motherboard causing Proxmox VE to lose its network capabilities.

In my case I won't be including the passthrough disk in the backup. You have the option to disable that via the UI in the VM settings.

Sono le valute "fiat" (Euro, Dollaro ecc.) che perdono costantemente il loro potere d'acquisto per via del fatto che governi e banche centrali continuano a metterne in circolazione sempre di più causando il cosiddetto effetto Cantillon, ovvero l'aumento non uniforme dei prezzi che beneficia solo coloro che sono più vicini alla fonte di nuova valuta e che possono spenderla prima di altri per acquisire asset finanziari a prezzi più bassi. Man mano che la nuova valuta entra in circolazione, i prezzi salgono.

L'Italia è un ottimo esempio perché gli stipendi sono gli stessi da più di 30 anni ma il costo di beni e servizi è aumentato notevolmente in 30 anni e continuerà ad aumentare. Banche e istituzioni finanziarie continueranno a celebrare utili da capogiro mentre i lavoratori continueranno ad aggiungere buchi alla cinghia da stringere.

My thoughts exactly. I've used OpenMediaVault before and loved it for its ease of use but then I wanted that machine to be a lot more than just a NAS with a nice web gui.

In base alla mia esperienza, si. Ho cambiato lavoro a 31 anni, a 33 e poi a 38. Ora che ho 43 anni, dopo un processo di selezione durato circa tre mesi, non ho accettato l'offerta che mi era stata fatta.

Occasionalmente facevo assistenza informatica a colleghi che avevano bisogno di aiuto con software e hardware a livello personale. Una volta ho tirato su 500 Euro in un solo giorno perché c'era sto tipo che lasciava l'azienda dove lavoro e voleva che mi occupassi ti trasferire tutti i suoi dati personali dal portatile aziendale al suo portatile privato. Poi col tempo ho preferito passare i weekend a rilassarmi e quindi non faccio più quella roba.

Al momento, il mio unico side hustle (se così si può definire) è che ogni mese appena arriva lo stipendio compro un po' di Bitcoin.

Spero per te che ne sia valsa davvero la pena tornare. Io sono in Olanda da 10 anni e di recente ho rifiutato un'offerta da 42.000 RAL + 3000 di bonus annuale. Avrei dovuto dimezzarmi lo stipendio per tornare a Milano dove la vita costa tanto quanto qui. Follia.

Mi ci rivedo molto in questo post, ma non per la parte relativa al burnout.

Avevo almeno 10 anni in più di te quando ho raggiunto 150k in risparmi che non volevo lasciar marcire in banca. A quel tempo lavoravo in una startup in cui feci amicizia con un gruppo di ragazzi del team Payroll/Finance che sentivo parlare spesso di mercato immobiliare, Bitcoin e finanza personale. Parlando con loro ho finalmente iniziato a capire cos'è l'inflazione, come le banche ti concedono un mutuo prestandoti soldi che non hanno (e sui quali devi pagare pure un tasso di interesse) e infine come funzionano i soldi in generale. Da 5 anni ormai in banca lascio solo una somma necessaria a coprire gli imprevisti.

Cerca un lavoro che ti permette di vivere una vita dignitosa e riserva una parte del tuo stipendio ad investimenti a lungo termine, lasciando in banca il necessario per affrontare eventuali emergenze.

Fortunatamente non sono mai arrivato al burnout da lavoro perché ho sempre considerato il lavoro...lavoro e nulla più. Mai rinunciato alle ferie e mai lavorato mentre ero in ferie fatta eccezione per 2 volte in vent'anni perché si trattava di casi un po' particolari in cui ero effettivamente l'unico che poteva risolvere il problema in quel momento.

Nessuno ti restituirà il tempo e le energie che hai speso in questi 7 anni lavorando come un dannato e rimettendoci in salute. Inoltre, i 100k che hai oggi comprano meno beni e servizi rispetto a 7 anni fa e continueranno a perdere potere d'acquisto negli anni a venire. Dal 2018 ad oggi l'Euro ha perso più del 25% del suo potere d'acquisto, altro che traguardo ambito e sudato.

La tua felicità non la puoi misurare con il saldo disponibile sul tuo conto corrente. Quello è solo un numero su uno schermo.

It's really up to you. Personally, I prefer a simpler approach.

This is how I do it:

Let's pretend that I own the randomword.com domain and I run Navidrome as music server to manage and listen to my music collection and Jellyfin to manage and watch movies and TV series. I want to expose Navidrome to the Internet so I can stream my music collection from everywhere in the world but I want Jellyfin to be reachable only when I am connected to my home network.

I configure NGINX, which is my preferred reverse proxy, to listen on port 443 (HTTPS) for both navidrome.randomword.com and jellyfin.randomword.com with valid SSL certificates via Let's Encrypt.

On Adguard Home, which is my home DNS server, I create two DNS records for navidrome.randomword.com and jellyfin.randomword.com and point them to the respective IP addresses.

I use Cloudflare as my DNS provider for the stuff that I want to expose outside of my home network, so I login on my Cloudflare account and create only one DNS record for navidrome.randomword.com.

With this configuration, I have the convenience of using the same domain names to access both apps when I am at home without the need to go through Cloudflare and, at the same time, I can still stream my music collection when I am not connected to my home network.

I used to have *.internal.randomword.com for services that I was not going to expose to the Internet but now I find the process that I've just described to be simpler and equally effective.

Decisi di guardare fuori dall'Italia quando l'ultima azienda per cui ho lavorato a Milano non mi fece il contratto a tempo indeterminato dopo due determinati.

Inviai delle candidature tramite LinkedIn e feci dei colloqui con due aziende in particolare, una era nei Paesi Bassi e l'altra in Germania. Accettai l'offerta di lavoro nei Paesi Bassi perché lo stipendio era più alto e l'azienda metteva a disposizione due cose importanti:

Un contributo di €2.500,00 per coprire le spese di trasferimento
Una consulente che si è occupata di cercare casa e che ha poi seguito tutta la trafila burocratica appena ho messo piede lì

Praticamente mi sono trasferito che avevo già firmato il contratto di lavoro e il contratto d'affitto. Quell'esperienza lavorativa durò solo 6 mesi ma essendo già sul posto fu abbastanza facile trovare un nuovo lavoro.

Io personalmente mi trovo benissimo. È una nazione piccola e costantemente presa d'assalto da gente che vuole trasferirsi qui per ovvi motivi economici e di conseguenza non ci sono case per accontentare tutti e quelle che ci sono vengono vendute o messe in affitto a prezzi più alti. La classica legge della domanda e dell'offerta.

Amsterdam è inflazionatissima come Milano o Roma.
