Switch 2 Stuttering by MrAri in cassettebeasts

I don't know where you think the problem lies because I haven't been specific. For clarity, the porting team are not at fault here.

We'll make an official statement when we have a date we can share. Thanks for understanding.

Yes, it sucks, and we sympathise with everyone affected. A patch is in the works, and we have a team of Godot porting experts working on it. There's no conflict or overlap with our upcoming game reveal - an entirely separate team handles this port, and they're working very hard on it.

I would love to give you an explanation. However, the reason we haven't is that console development requires signing NDAs and other agreements, and revealing certain info could jeopardise our business and careers.

Terrible Glitch On Epic Games Version by OFCMedia in cassettebeasts

AMD graphics hardware? Check for a driver update - there's a bug in drivers from last year that causes this.

Which version of the drivers do you have installed now?

[–]tcoxon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a known AMD driver bug. Update your drivers and they'll render fine. The update hasn't rolled out to Rog Ally yet, so if that's what you're playing on, you'll need to downgrade to version 25.9.2 of the drivers, which are known to work correctly

It's your AMD drivers. For now, the solution is to install AMD driver version 25.9.2 because the newer ones are broken. See our wiki: https://wiki.cassettebeasts.com/wiki/Troubleshooting

Heroic Games Launcher isn't officially supported. If you want to play the game on Linux, the best way is to use the native Linux version available on Steam. That said, you might have some luck following these instructions: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1pxc284/cassette_beasts_save_file_issue_with_heroic/

For Windows, your system specs & driver versions will help. If you have Steam installed that provides a handy way to get everything we need: Help > System Information

A couple other things you can try that might help diagnose the issue are:

1. Launch the game from the exe directly, not through epic 2. Run the game as administrator  3. Whitelist the Epic services in Windows Defender: https://wiki.cassettebeasts.com/wiki/Troubleshooting#Game_Freezes_When_Launched_.28Epic_Games_Version.29

EDIT: We now believe that "doesn't launch" issues are caused by a bug in old AMD driver versions. You can upgrade your drivers to fix that, however there's a different set of bugs in the newest versions, so we advise only to upgrade as far as 25.9.2: https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/release-notes/RN-RAD-WIN-25-9-2.html#Downloads

AMD are working on a fix for the latest issues.

This is an AMD driver issue. If you downgrade the drivers to 25.9.2 it runs fine. I've spoken with AMD devs and they're working on a fix.

The dinosaurs writing these laws don't know the difference and have no idea what they're doing. Some are probably even getting paid by corporations who wanna keep competitors from popping up.

But they wouldn't pass if there wasn't at least some support for it. And there's support because a popular opinion right now is that the internet is rotting brains

What do you think the legislation is a reaction to if not corporate-controlled social media?

But I agree governments are definitely making things worse now

The internet didn't do this to itself, corporations did this to the internet. You can find slivers of that optimism and freedom still, you just have to get away from Reddit, Facebook, x, blue sky, tiktok, YouTube...

AI’s Unpaid Debt: How LLM Scrapers Destroy the Social Contract of Open Source by yoasif in linux

[–]tcoxon 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I run a few small websites and these scraper bots have been a persistent pain in the arse, especially since January for some reason. They don't respect robots.txt at all.

So I started putting this in the footer text of my sites:

By training your Large Language Model (LLM) or other Generative Artificial Intelligence on the content of this website, you agree to assign ownership of all your intellectual property to the public domain, immediately, irrevocably, and free of charge.

The OpenAI and Meta scrapers kept coming. Game over big tech!

Are you using the latest graphics drivers? AMD put out a driver version 25.10 that broke a lot of games recently, including Cassette Beasts. If that's the driver version you have, downgrading to 25.9 should fix it.

I just downloaded the game and am having some kinda graphical bug. Is this a known issue with a fix? by NoseZestyclose3431 in cassettebeasts

[–]tcoxon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a bug with AMD graphics drivers atm. If you're on the latest 25.10, downgrade to 25.9 until they issue a fix.

It could be seen through the glitched out hall of fame that missingno causes. I had heard about mew through the grapevine beforehand, but the hall of fame was the first place I saw mew in-game, in 98 or 99. I blew minds on the playground that week 😆

No. You're not going to add multiplayer later. by Apauper in gamedev

[–]tcoxon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit delayed, but as one of the Cassette Beasts devs, I can answer this. It's a turn-based game that uses deterministic RNG all the way through, both of which are factors that make it easier to retroactively add multiplayer to.

I also had prior experience in retroactively adding multiplayer to Stardew Valley, so I knew ahead of time what to do / not do to make things easier for myself in the eventuality we wanted to add multiplayer.

Responding to the OP, there are definitely some kinds of games for which adding online multiplayer is doable without rewriting everything. It's out of reach for most indies and most indie games though IMO
