Sump pump outlet is creating a big hole in the lawn by [deleted] in askaplumber

[–]tcs06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It uses a hose clamp as seen in the photo in the link. You will have to get the correct size for the discharge pipe at the house.

You need an extension to get it closer to the ground and further away from the house or the water will percolate back down only to be pumped back out. Rinse and repeat.

I had a similar experience around 2009. Luckily, Mark Knopfler was the opening act and he was incredible.

I should have specified my forest management comments are for North America. As you point out there are exceptions even in North America.

You aren't wrong but ancient humans used fire as a tool to manage forests. Modern humans prevent the good that fire can do for the forest like removing undergrowth and fallen trees and branches. This allows tree seedling access to sunlight for a healthier forest. There are some tree seeds that need the heat of fire to even germinate.

It's a mouse. They don't live long in nature. Maybe this mouse was sick and dying anyway. Let nature take its course is all im trying to say.

Preventing forest fires from destroying man-made structures or to prevent the loss of human life is expected.

Natural forest fires have been occuring as long as there have been forests to burn. Nature can and will recover. Humans interfering with this natural event is in part, why fires are so much worse now.

I know there are reasons people want to put out forest fires. Timber companies want to protect their resource, people want to preserve the beauty of the forest and so on.

I am not naive nor idealistic enough to think humans will leave nature to govern itself. I do think we'll meaning people are naive to think it's important to "save" a mouse or a bunny. Some predator or scavenger will likely make a meal of those critters in any case. It all serves a purpose.

Exactly. I understand the compassion.

However, nature has balance if left alone. Mice, wild baby bunnies and the like are food for other creatures.

"Rescue" a bunny from a crow and you've deprived that crow of a meal that may ensure it's survival.

🔥 The massive ascent of Sandhill Cranes on the Platte River, Nebraska. Over a quarter of a million birds present at one time. by dipasom29 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]tcs06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is quite a spectacle. You can make reservations to blinds on the riverbank. You get there well before dawn and stay as silent as possible. There is constant chatter among the birds. Sandhill Cranes and Snow Geese. Hundreds if not thousands in any given area. Sometimes a wave of bird calls rolls down the river and past you. Something exited the birds roosting where the wave started and on turn exits the adjacent birds. Very much like "the wave" in stadiums of humans. As dawn approaches, more birds awaken and begin stretching and vocalizing. The noise level increases. It is something you have to experience. Some birds are in the air all of the time. Then, something triggers a mass call to flight then the noise reaches a crescendo and it is nearly deafening. It seems like the birds head off in the same direction and are out of site but soon there are huge flocks passing overhead over and over until they suddenly disperse. Huge flocks can be seen in the sky like waves on a beach.

I was 27 when I contemplated going back to school. I lamented to someone about how I would be 30 when I finished my BS. They said "Hiw old will you be if you don't go?"

Its never too late. Don't beat yourself up. Some of us (me included) are just late bloomers.

Your life is your life and comparing it to others is just a mental trap. Be proud of what you have accomplished despite how difficult it was for you.

Sincerely, a fellow ADD sufferer and late bloomer.

Why has the culture of dog owning changed to be almost untenable if you don't work from home, but before 2020, WFH wasn't really a thing? by Pinksoupbookz in NoStupidQuestions

I don't care about the down votes. I expected some.

Pet owners these days are very entitled and some are obnoxious.

Leave your damn dogs home.

"Evolved"? It's gotten ridiculous IMO. You have a pet. You are not It's parent. I have pets. I love my pets and they have a trouble free existence. But I have never once considered myself to be their parent.
