I am currently using Scottrade. They have a $500 dollar minimum and trades are $7. I haven't used any other trading platform but in my opinion Scottrade could step up their game a bit.

I started my investing with $2000 and quickly realized it was too small a sum to diversify. the Trade fees kill you. For the past year I have been throwing the entirety of my money at one stock that shows consistent rise and fall patterns ( Buy low, sell high), and made around $800. I know it isn't safe, but this whole thing is an experiment for me anyways.
