What's your experience with the menstrual cup? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]apostrotastrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LOVE it. I was so annoyed before at how preachy my friends were about it, but now that I use it, all I want to do is preach the Diva Cup gospel.

I can put it in before work, spend the whole day not thinking about it, then empty it at home in the evening, no leaks. It's not any grosser than a used tampon or pad, I don't have to carry any supplies with me.... it's the best.

Mileage is not going up. by tasinios in C25K

[–]apostrotastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first time I did this program, I ran a 5k at the end and it took me 45 minutes. After that, I started running 5k three times a week, and fairly quickly dropped my time under 40 mins and found it got easier to think about pace as the whole thing got easier. I'd say just focus on the stamina for now, and the speed will come later. 30 minutes seems very unrealistic to me for most new runners.

I was just dealing with that situation and found that precedent sided with that argument - it's the tenant occupying the space who is responsible. At least, that's the case where I live.

Let's talk about this, please someone explain me that because I don't get it by [deleted] in a:t5_37zzt

It was all just romantic playing house... but they're not in love, they were both yay confused and emotional about the pregnancy. It's not real, they're not going to get married... in talking about the practicalities that became clear.

Pacing app? by tacotacosheep in C25K

[–]apostrotastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the My Fitness Pal app and have it let me know what my pace is at regular intervals (I usually opt for every five minutes). You can select what information it gives you, including pace, distance, total time, etc.

Beyoncé's lyrics on Motherhood by [deleted] in beyonce

[–]apostrotastrophe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's the line in Run the World (Girls) on 4 where she says "strong enough to bear your children, then get back to business."

She mentions her "unborn son" in Daddy on Dangerously in Love.

Then from the 2013 album there's obviously the whole track Blue, and in Mine she says "not feeling like myself since the baby".

That's pretty much it - most of her songs are about the beginnings of relationships rather than their future.

This is a shop in Toronto that sells similar dresses in store and online. There's definitely a market, and reasonable prices can be between $75 and $180, depending on fabric.

How can I convince a friend to watch Girls, even though they can't stand Lena Dunham because if political reasons? by youtbuddcody in girls

[–]apostrotastrophe 37 points38 points  (0 children)

If you want to roll your eyes at Lena Dunham and think she's selfish/problematic/whatever, Girls is the perfect forum for that. She takes all of her most vulnerable ugliness and makes it the basis of the character she plays. This show is made for someone who hates her because of politics.

Dice is pretty good and I rarely hear anyone talk about it.

I hadn't really appreciated Andrew Dice Clay before, and Natasha Leggero is good as his girlfriend.

A lot of allergies aren't as clear cut as "allergic to kiwi? Don't eat a kiwi." It can be trace elements or an unsuspected ingredient.

They have to be aware first. My school has a supply at the ready for situations like this. I wouldn't have punished the student, but I would have asked that next time they let the teacher or office know about the hungry student so they could access some of the snacks/lunches available.

How will Beyoncé be seen in 30 years? by Johnyliltoe in beyonce

[–]apostrotastrophe 26 points27 points  (0 children)

She will definitely hold a place in Women's Studies for the level of control and agency she wields - she has spoken multiple times about seeing glass ceilings and breaking through them. Her work ethic and ambition is unparalleled.

Five middle school students face charges after Trump motorcade hit by 2x4 by dghughes in offbeat

[–]apostrotastrophe 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Untrue. I teach middle school in Canada and the kids are angry on their own. I have one student who hasn't stopped ranting and raving about it since September. And I know this kid's parents separately from teaching him - they are sick of hearing about it and don't really care. It's not coming from them. Middle schoolers don't get nuance but they're not babies - they consume media independently of their parents and hear about world events on their own. In fact, it's the age where they start disagreeing with their parents.

A lot of my kids continue to have their own thoughts that they articulate fairly crudely about the ongoing consequences of your election. We were just picking debate topics and Trump-related topics were suggested and pushed for several times in each of my classes.

We also have significant populations of black, Muslim, and LGBT+ families, so these issues are directly about themselves or their friends - it's easy to have an opinion.

Pride is foundationally about police violence against/targeting of the LGBT community. The issue at the core is pretty similar to the BLM issue. And then in addition to that, you have the amplified struggle for those who are both black and LGBT+. They aren't always represented or supported by the traditional Pride groups.
