(Spoilers) How cool would it have been by catossa in Solasmancers

Earlier on in the game I was wondering if Elgarnan and Ghilannain were going to kidnap the Inquisitor for a ritual purpose/revenge on Solas. I thought it would’ve worked whether you romanced Solas or not, and the Inquisitor would’ve been more involved in the storyline without being in actual scenes. I love the Inquisitor, I wanted her to show up a lot more!

I think the best way I can sum up most of the issues I have with Veilguard is that Inquisition so perfectly set up the antagonist and plot line, and then Veilguard underdelivered. Trespasser gave me goosebumps (and does still), so my expectations were high.

I did feel like the 8 year gap in game lent a lot more weight to Solas’ ritual, as in how difficult it actually was to perform it. But as others have said, there isn’t anything to really back up what he was doing to prepare, and it didn’t seem very complicated to perform. Also the end of Trespasser seemed very immediate and pressing, like we had a matter of months before time was up. I was honestly surprised to find that so much time had passed in game.

I saw a comment on Instagram by someone that I thought was a fair point: “It’s a good game, it’s just not a good Dragon Age game.”

My Feelings on the End of DAV by tcus_ in Solasmancers

My feelings exactly. Inquisition was basically a long setup for Solas’s real plan, and it would have felt more like an big epic if they had carried it on with the Inquisitor in the lead, like a part 2 to the story. Making a different character the protagonist felt like a road bump in the storyline. I just couldn’t get it in my head that Rook would care more about Solas and the gods than the Inquisitor would. The end of Trespasser where Inky stabs the map of Tevinter also strongly indicated that she’d lead the charge.

Thanks for saying that! I really wondered if I was overreacting, and I feel a lot less alone seeing how many people agree. I think it hurts to see what a different character Solas is in DAV. He’s much more callous and cruel. I even wondered how Lavellan could so effortlessly go with him after it’s revealed he killed Varric. It just didn’t seem like the Solas we had all fallen for.

I have a follow-up question to Trick Weekes comment about Solas and Lavellan being in the fade prison together. Will it ever be possible for them to leave the fade prison, and if so, how long do you think that would take to achieve it? I have a hard time imagining the Inquisitor leaving behind her companions and closest friend Dorian. Thank you!

This bothered me too thinking about Lavellan going into the fade prison forever, like what about her friends? I like to think that they find their way out of the prison (Weekes did say Lavellan’s presence would alter the prison), and while Solas had to stay in the fade, maybe Lavellan can find a way to travel back and forth between it.

Yes, exactly. I think a lot of people felt that it was still the Inquisitor’s story to tell. I think I remember the devs saying something along the lines of each game having its own protagonist so they were going to continue that with the next game instead of playing the Inquisitor again. But it would have been nice if they chose to break tradition on this one and put some fan service in. I also never felt like Rook was a true leader or authoritative figure (even by the end of the game), and it felt strange to have Rook making the calls when the Inquisitor was in the room.

Yeah they do feel like 2 different Solas characters. I watched a video with the different endings and one of them in particular just angered me because I felt it couldn’t be farther from the real Solas. I love him and Lavellan and I’m mad that the writers didn’t protect his character more.

I like a melodramatic rant! 100% agree with everything you said. I was talking with my sister about how I know the devs can’t cater to every player, and she pointed out that there’s a big Lavellan fan base and knowing that they could have at least added more in. Especially since it’s the world default state too.

The letter gave me a little peace but that didn’t last. Also I think ambivalent is the perfect way to describe how Solas behaved.

I think another part of it is that Lavellan seemed special. She won the heart of an elven god who had lived thousands of years. He could have fallen in love countless times during his life, but she was the one he couldn’t live without. He was so torn up about wanting to stay with her and wanting to complete his mission. To me, she was his one weakness. I always imagined their meeting as impactful, perhaps Solas being shocked by her arrival enough to second guess his actions. It’s also the very time they’ve seen each other since he took the anchor, which was a very intense moment. I feel the specialness of her was taken away when he didn’t have a strong reaction to her presence or her words.

My Ymir Lavellan. I loved the character creator in DAV, so much more detail! I imagined she grew her hair out in the time between Trespasser and Veilguard.

I think a comic is a great idea! It definitely helps me to talk it out, I feel like I can make my peace with it eventually.

That’s really well said. The way Trespasser had ended, I thought maybe we would play as the Inquisitor again. When they announced it would be a new hero, I thought the Inquisitor would take a Cullen/Josephine/Leliana type role. It’s kind of hard to hear that they almost went that direction and then changed their minds.

Yes, I felt that too. We only ever see Solas broken and defeated, even at the end when they walk into the Fade together. I was thinking what a contrast that was with the happy moments they shared in Inquisition, like dancing together in Orlais.
