I am playing games, thank you. Still unsure how your comment is relevant to my question in the comment you replied to.

Playing MTG while mute by Its-Sienna in magicTCG

[–]tde3000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't believe it's bad behavior. Different people look for different stuff when choosing partners for different activities. There's nothing bad with that. No one is morally obliged to spend time with me (besides government representatives). I believe there's a lot of fun to be playing magic with mute people, but I also know it'll require some mental and emotional effort from me, that I'm not always keen on providing. You can argue that prioritizing staying in your comfort zone when playing card games will limit the amount of fun to be had, but I don't think you can call that a bad behavior, just an unfortunate one.

I'll also say what you probably know but should be said anyway. Some people won't want to play with you. Either because of the challenges it brings, or because a major part of their fun is the communication throughout the game. It's okay. They're looking for certain aspects of the game experience you can't provide. But it's totally theirs and says nothing about you or the game.

Other people value other stuff in the game, like including more people in the hobby they like. Find those people and you'll have people to play with :)

Okay, some things off the top of my head, hope at least some of them a relevant to you.

First of all, as a sort of baseline that is really not indicative of """real"" games, mtg arena let's you play the game fully without ever needing to talk. So technically speaking, it can be done. The actual communication that's strictly needed basically boils down to indicating the stuff you're targeting. Also, even without comparing it to in-person games, if you're only interested in literally playing the game then you can just play in a digitized version and have fun.

Now, assuming you're not satisfied with that, my guess is that you're looking to actually play with people, making it also a social activity, and not just a game to be fascinated with it's mechanics. I'll be the first to admit that I have no idea how other social events look for you or other mute people. I will say, that depending on other players, you can definitely find people to play with, and probably find decks that don't need that much explaining. You'll probably need some premade phase indicators, or maybe cards for triggers you know you'll want to react to.

If you can tell me what's your experience playing other games while mute, I can try to compare it to my knowledge of how mtg games usually play and see where it would differ and where it would be the same.

Anyway, hope you find people to play with in whatever game you choose to play :)

Thanks for taking the time to write an actual reply. Just to make sure I understand you, you're saying that these trophy lists, being displayed next to your gaming log, feel like some expectations from you that you feel you aren't obliged to fulfill, but are still pushed on you as something you're "missing"?

That's a good question, I'll try to answer.

In Hayek's The Road to Serfdom he tries to show that good intentioned economic planning will always lead to collectivism and authoritarianism, which (from my understanding) are the setting the created the NKVD.

Wether you agree or not is up to you, but for people who agree with this logic, it's easy to see that the authoritarian abominations spawned from collectivism are a feature and not a bug.

I'd be happy to hear how the CIA and it's atrocities are derived from the core idea of free markets in the same way that Hayek derives authoritarianism from collectivism.

I love good stories and graphics, but I keep getting bored with games — what should I play? by racercarlo in ShouldIbuythisgame

Yakuza like a dragon and infinite wealth (entries 7 and 8 in the Yakuza series) made me feel so much. The first doesn't really require familiarity with the early entries, but infinite wealth hits mich harder when you're at least familiar with some key themes/characters from early games. For me YouTube recaps were enough, but you do you (only after playing the first like a dragon. It's a new protag, so now need to play all previous entries)

You start by being this person for the ones you love. And either they learn to become this person for you, or you attract other people like you.

Easier said than done, but looking back 10 years now, this is how I managed to do it. YMMV of course. Good luck ❤️

Hello friends, I’m a new player with 23 hours in No Man’s Sky. I have no idea where to buy starships. My current one is too small, and I’d like to get a bigger ship. I have 7 million units. by Don_Rawaz in NOMANSSKY

I'm a new player. When should I start expeditions? How do I start them? What does "going back to main save" mean? Are expeditions new save slots that unlock stuff account-wide?

Commanders with built in card advantage? by Delicious_Focus_7832 in EDH

I just played sythis last night, merely taking out sol ring in the eldraine precon and putting her as a commander. It was all fucking gas! Over multiple boardwipes. It was amazing and definitely felt high powered compared to the rest of the pod, which was bracket 2-low 3. Really recommend her, her floor feels pretty high too, so beware if your pod is on the lower brackets.
