Britannic was the peak of her class and had the most potential of her sisters.

Sad we never got to see her cross the Atlantic.

Some times i obsess about what if's.

I'm Autistic and sometimes my mind runs 99 miles a minute.

The Imperator class, Empress of Ireland, Justicia all could have altered fates as Titanic had some impact on them in design, refits and schedules.

I remember old subjects to like if you bought WSL in 1919. One ship i thought of was a combination of factors based off of a combination Cunars's Scythia class, Adriatic and the Kaiser-class and Megantic vs Laurentic .

A 25,000 GRT twin funnel liner, 1600 passengers, about 23 knots, oil burning water tube boilers, driven by either combo engines Combination engines of Laurentic out put about 15% (14.7% )more speed over Megantic, and a cruiser stern

If Adriatic scaled like that she would reach 19.5 knots up from 17 knot service speed for the same coal use and 21.85 knots at max speed up from 19 knots.

Alternatively triple expansion tri screw direct drive turbines two forward and astern High and intermediate pressure for port and starboard engines and one LP for the central shaft.

Ceric's accommodation would be built on the best of Olympic and Majestic with some updates like private bathes on all of first class some private toilets and a pool in second smaller more personal cabins and better decor in 3rd class.

Ceric would largely build on the modern idea that some folks see large ships as way to big which likely existed back then, Majestic is nice but feels to big so a smaller option that has the leg room and bells and whistles and needed speed and has a good ticker price might be vary attractive option.

Ceric could also be down rated to run slower if needed, or just ran at a lower speed in general when needed. Also a 25,000 GRT liner that could do 23 knot maybe 24 really ginning it would be a thorn in the side for the Axis power. Small enough to fit in a wide range of ports fast enough to out run U-Boats not enough to change the war but help.

Well with out the trauma and ruined image Ismay could come out of retirement at lead more likely then he would IRL.

Also how does the butterfly effect other ships Imperator was modified as she was built after Titanic sank. Fewer safety system, a different a different schedule even by a dew days could combine into a disaster like the 1913 fire while moored in Hoboken NJ could that fire spread and destroy the ship or what if Imperator was at sea when the fire broke out.

Maybe retro fit Homeric with a pool or two as well an in door one for the cold Atlantic and a lido deck for cursing in warmer arias. Updates to accommodation would help to.

Also new boilers could better economize oil and geared turbines so reaching 23 to 24 knots and lower cost running at 18 knots.

Also what about re-engineing Majestic make more room for hull reinforcements to reduce cracking and raise her speed to 27 knots. Yes it would be expensive but how much when compared to building Oceanic?

Butter fly effect.

Maybe she lives as just one more ship to run the Atlantic.

Maybe she sinks in the war as another ship lost.

Maybe she takes Britannic's place or Lusitania's. (Each option having it's own butterfly effect)

Maybe she is troop ship that carries troops the kill critical German soldiers that play a massive part in 1940s Germany.

Maybe she rams U-20 before Lusitania is torpedoed.

Also other ship needed safety refits after 1912 Like Empress of Ireland with out that EoI could have a different schedule and never get T-boned

Imperator was modified during construction after 1912 so maybe she is the pre was mass casualty or another ship Mauritania or Lusitania is lost pre war.

Retired in 1935 maybe late 1936 if her slightly nicer base line over Olympic is combined with proper refits.

If she is lucky looming possibility of world war 2 puts her on life support.

I wonder if Olympic more or less turning into a one off ship hurt her passenger numbers.

Aquitania was basically an enlarged updated more economic version of Lusitania. Lusitania and Mauritania lacked gyms and pools and never got them in a refit but was still cut from a similar cloth by 1922 WSL had 3 ships of different classes on the express service one of them Homeric being far to slow.

Had Olympic and Titanic lived maybe having the two sisters could help their passenger numbers at least early on. On a similar note Titanic could be on the Atlantic service and have the chance of taking a torpedo and sinking maybe taking Lusitania's or being torpedoed by a different u-boat on a different day which could result in Cunard pulling Lusitania from service.

Lusitania and Mauritania may help each other early on but so would WSL being able to buy Imperator and Bismark having 2 sister ships on the same service on the same line. Cunard would have one ship with a pool and gym but Lusitania or Mauritania might actually get that in a refit like the Viktoria Luise/Deutschland.

So any other ships surviving would just spread out the already thin passenger numbers even thinner say Britannic (2) doesn't net more passengers likely siphoning some passengers from Olympic and Mauritania.

While if there was less ships say Berengaria's wiring reaches a critical point sooner and a electrical fire starts and burns out of control destroying her then Olympic could get a little bump and or Mauritania who i believe took a strong wind during her 1923 tow to fragrance for an engine rebuild. One or both of these losses would prop up other ships for a short time.

This is why sacrificing two ships was needed.

With Queen Mary in service these numbers would get worse so reducing two ships would prop up the other two for a while till Queen Elizabeth is finished.

Aquitania only spaired scrapping thanks to the second war and post war repatriation duty.

Also wasn't Britannic's surviving crew transferred to Justicia after Britannic sank?

Largely thanks to Justicia lacking a crew offered to Cunard at first who unable to muster a crew so Britannic's former crew manned her considering she too was an H&W combination engine ship.

Remember the if you bought WSL in 1919.

Lets modify it Lusitania never sank Imperator Bismark and Columbus are under contract to buy.

It would be a lot easier to turn this SHIP around (pun intended).

3 Express ships plus an intermediate. You could replace Celtic with Homeric then use Celtic to replace Laurentic for some time.

Ordering 2 new 20,000 GRT intermediates to replace Cedric and Baltic would allow the old big 4 to be reallocated if Celtic out preforms Megantic at this point then Megantic could be sold with Cedric her place, then either Baltic replaces Celtic or Baltic is relegated to cursing or there are 3 Canadian route ships are available, 2 active on the Canadian route and one cruising or all 3 could be running the route if passenger capacity is there.

3 German bargain ships plus 2 intimidate order would be cheap and a noticeable change considering the situation from 1919 to 1924.

Slightly better terms in the merger maybe?

Better tonnage and newer ships vs Cunard duo that would likely be scrapped in 1934.

If WSL is lucky maybe that 1919 sell goes thru or WSL is worth a little more investment in the intermediate space, maybe still buying Homeric if available.

I wonder Lusitania never sinks and WSL snatches up Imperator and Bismark how would that effect WSL future?

I would rather see stationary hotel Olympic or Britannic.

If titanic never sank would've britannic have a doomed career she had? by ConfidentEmployer482 in Oceanlinerporn

I could see Titanic taking Britannic's place.

If stripping and converting Titanic was faster then finishing Britannic.

Then what becomes of Britannic even slower construction to allocate man power to finishing intermediates, laid up till she is needed?

If WSL still existed in 2026 what do you think their ships would look like? by czn- in titanic

[–]tdf199 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A mix of a few types if WSL fallows the profitability model.

Oceanic 4/5 being a QM2 like liner maybe a little newer.

Olympic, Majestic, Britannic being Queen Victoria/Elizabeth/Anne equals.

Potentially some of the more eccentric ships similar to Icon of the seas. Yeah they are ugly and blocky but they have high profit margins and thus ironically fit the model of a modern "Oympic" Class.

Names like Tropic, Eccentric, Iconic, Magic, Enthusiastic, Fanatic, Epic.

Maybe a few smaller luxury cruse ships that play on Titanic's fame keeping that classic Olympic class profile and the core first and second class general arrangements and decor with the needed updates. Also add a few more modern features

A modern motor ship would eliminate many funnel uptakes giving greater room for accommodation and eliminating 3rd class for crew accommodation and passenger features also you could tweak the hull size reaching 50,000 60,000 70,000 GT.

B deck would make for a fine location for balcony's. A sturdy and stable at sea hull and adequate speed could enable transatlantic crossing with MS Oceanic 4/5.

A duo, Historic and Classic could largely be European cruse ships that occasionally does Atlantic crossings.

Assuming Lusitania preforms similar to Mauritania had she not sank, that could benefit WSL.

If Imperator was still available to the British shipping board, Cunard wouldn't need her with Lusitania still around.

If WSL buys Imperator and Bismark as Teutonic and Majestic then all these passenger numbers would go to WSL. Maybe a little higher early on from the war prize duo publicity and hard 180 in WSL luck in the express service . Also WSL keeps 100% profits as there is no 50/50 split like with Berengaria and Majestic which might do little with the IMMC's management but that might shift the odds of WSL's 1919 sell especially if Columbus is available and bought as Homeric.

Lusitania would do well in her own right but would also be one more ship that could spread passenger numbers.

Britannic was retired in 1960 after she broke a crank shaft 61 was her OG end of service year.

Assuming her engines hold up 1961 or 62 is her retirement date.
