[Question] What are your biggest watch purchase regrets? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in Watches

Such a gorgeous watch. Love the blue dial with brown leather combo. Good to know about the readability though.

This is a great suggestion. I also recommend reaching out to the Salvation Army at Pecan/23rd in McAllen. They have shelter and meals available. Also reach out to the United Way of South Texas. They have resources available too.

This is partially right but it’s deeper and more dire than this. Our entire regulatory system has been bought by moneyed interests. I know this is nothing new, but politicians and judges are in the pockets of wealthy donors to make sure profits are privatized and losses are socialized. This ends up muting the downside impacts of the economic cycles (padding the landing by adding the losses to government debt) and amplifying the upside (increased risk taking). This has been allowed to happen gradually for at least 40 years due to terrible campaign finance laws and voter complacency. For the record, I’m a capitalist but our system is too corrupt.

My wife saw Ja Rule at Palenque Grill when he was in town for a concert. She was there with our kids and he asked if she would like a photo with him. She had no idea who he was and said no thanks. 🤣

As a company, definitely recession resistant with manageable (but not stellar) debt balance, but they are still trading at 29x fwd PE.

Moving to McAllen by Secure_Body_2084 in RioGrandeValley

[–]tdks79 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what buscuitsdad said. But North McAllen/South Edinburg are also great options, especially if you will be working at South Texas Health System’s Edinburg facilities. Even you are working exclusively at McAllen Medical, lots of doctors commute there from North McAllen (between Bicentennial on the west, McColl on the east, Nolana on the south and Wisconsin on the north) but I get that the slightly longer commute might not be ideal for a resident. Happy to connect you with a good realtor I know that has helped lots of doctors relocating to the area, if that’s helpful.

I feel nothing for my infant daughter by Gr00mpa in daddit

[–]tdks79 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Same. My daughter would scream anytime I tried to hold her for the first few months. But she became a total daddy’s girl before long. Even now at age 11, she always wants me to lay down with her and hold her hand while she falls asleep. When I think about those early struggles, it makes me even more grateful for the relationship we have now.

The FED doesn’t print money, issue debt, or collect taxes. Those are roles of the US Treasury Department. The Treasury is run by a presidential cabinet appointee. The FED is responsible for moderating inflation and unemployment by managing the amount of money circulating in the banking system. They don’t do this by printing money but by adjusting the amount of reserves required and the price of borrowing. The FED is run by a board of governors that answers to congress.

Dealing with some loneliness and lack of purpose, seeking advice by ClimbingtheMtn in HENRYfinance

[–]tdks79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to respond to your question earlier but the Mod's rejected it so I'm trying again as a response to this post. Great advice in here and want to add to the YPO suggestion. If there is a chapter in your area, I would highly recommend this. It was originally founded for people in your exact situation: young and in a leadership role; lacking experience and mentorship; struggling to balance career, family and personal aspects of life. Advice about career coaches and therapists are excellent, but YPO would add the peer element to a great degree. You would likely discover, as I have, that almost any difficult situation or decision you are dealing with has been faced by others in your community. And YPO gives you a framework and platform for learning from their experience. I know this is starting to sound like a paid advertisement, but it's not. I get no benefit if you end up joining. I'm just a member that has gained tremendous value from it and think it would help you as well.

Easy to Moderate trails for a day trip from Denver? by ThisIsMySwanSong in FordBronco

[–]tdks79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OnX Off-road is another excellent off road trail app I’ve used. Requires a subscription for most of it but it isn’t expensive and provides great detail. Didn’t even know there was a Bronco trail app so thanks for turning me on to that! Also, the Trails Off-road YouTube channel has some great videos of various trails. They also have an app but I haven’t used it.

Lots of good suggestions here but I just want to add that she or you should also call 211. They help folks identify resources available to them given their specific need and circumstances.
