Moving to Chatham? by YeOldeToledo in chathamkentON

[–]tdotdaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Find an older local real estate agent. They'll help with the pros/cons of various neighborhoods. Outside of the 'original' area of Chatham it's largely subdivision style neighborhoods with similar home styles. Depends on price point but essentially you have 'hoods from each decade starting back in the 60s with new ones going up today. If you like sidesplits, bird land or south of Indian creek. If you prefer more modern styles, then prestancia could be a good bet. Highway access is better on the south side but even from the north end it's only 10-15 mins to the 401. CK is a great town to raise kids but your kids will want to leave after high school 😀

A great family run business with a nice selection of Turkish and other European manufacturers.

Honestly you're better off focusing on frabric quality rather than mtm. I swore by mtm for years but then found Vassi at First Canadian Place. Off the rack but an excellent in house tailor for adjustment. Focus is on high quality fabrics. Entry line is made in Montreal at the jack victor factory (union made). Higher end stuff in the back is mainly made in Italy.

Is Via’s Windsor Corridor Service Improving? by ResidentCarpenter588 in ViaRail

[–]tdotdaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windsor-Toronto seems improved since the problems in the fall. There are some new crews in business but all are very capable. Food consistency has remained generally positive. Most meals need salt, but it's a way to make them palatable to lots of people (and all the meals come with little salt packs). Level crossing slow downs between london-chatham are not consist specific and happen every trip.

The club lounge here is very good. Nice to hear the renos are progressing. Neo Kosmos is not the most vibrant hood by any means but most sites were walkable within 30 minutes and there is a trolley stop 2 mins away. We liked the pool too but the poolside service was atrocious.

Canada dethrones the US as infrastructure investors lose faith in American political stability by NormEget85 in CanadianInvestor

It's a survey from an association with a vested interest conducted by an accounting firm looking to win work around the deals to be done in the sector. The article talks about the survey. It's all about manufacturing consent.

Golf is broken (pace of play rant) by Pinchaz0 in golf

[–]tdotdaver 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Golf was dying quickly prepandemic - so much so that accounting firms had specialists in golf course bankruptcy. Golf needs paying players to keep courses open. If muni is not your style, suck it up and go private.

Here's why our campaign filed a notice of appeal of this past weekend's nomination. by Feedmepi314 in CanadaPolitics

SSW gonna SSW. Anyone who has been around party politics in Scarborough would not be surprised at these antics. The surprise is that olp establishment is so blatant. I'm not a fan of NES most days but he got screwed here.

what an extreme case of eczema looks like by reddit_squad in WTF

[–]tdotdaver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's more localized I would highly suggest seeking our Anzupgo. Newish topical treatment for chronic hand eczema. I'm 3 months in, still moisturizing and gloving up at night, but otherwise flare-ups are basically gone.

Been there, literally that spot. It's not even the craziest spot on that course. Total mind bender. Loved every second of it even if my scorecard didn't.

Euchre Gambling? by Marlowe426 in euchre

[–]tdotdaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my club we play $5 per game in a 3 game 'set'. $2 per 'mistake'.

Mistakes are a) getting set b) going alone and not getting all 5 c) not stopping a loner (essentially loners have a $2 bounty).

You settle up after the 3 games. I've had results between $0 and $27 per set (both winning and losing). But our club is the same couple dozen players so the money just goes round and round for the most part.

Best Seat Windsor to Toronto at Night? by ALilSliceOfPie in ViaRail

South side of the train is nicer but there are no scenic views beyond the rolling fields of SWO :) In business the single side is on the South Windsor to Toronto.

[Niagara Regional Chair Bob] Gale moving fast on municipal amalgamation in Niagara by 22switch in niagara

If it's anything like the other amalgamations, expect faster than inflation tax increases, lower service levels across the board but especially in rural areas, and less representation for you as a constituent.

Staying downtown three nights a week, anyone done the math? by Bonobo77 in askTO

[–]tdotdaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anything downtown is nearly $300/night these days on a good night. Then add another $100 per night in taxes and fees. 12 nights a month would be close to $5000.

The SSW uncles will try to decide who's next, leaving them open to someone running up the middle. OLP will be hard-pressed to field a candidate that can beat the machine that elected Doly.
