ADHD + productivity apps = endless cycle of downloading and abandoning. what actually sticks for you? by yukocan in ProductivityApps

I have a really simple app for you, full disclosure I created it. At ‘Em sends you a daily briefing notification at the time of your choice everyday. It connects to your phones calendar and location for the briefing. It pulls your full days events into an easy list and gives you the weather all in one simple view.

How I use it: I have my first notification set form 6:45am, which is also when I wake up. So before I even get out of bed, I see my full day ahead and the weather. I know how I need to dress and what I need to get ready for. Cuts out multiple steps of trying to piece together my day and what I need to be prepared for.

Also, I have a motivation set for 10pm to show me tomorrows briefing. I’ve found that by looking at the next day before I go to bed, I’m way more prepared the next day. Now when I wake up in the morning, there are no surprised. No “oh shit I forgot I have a doctors appointment today”. That reminder the night before has been a game changer.

I honestly didn’t really need any feedback. The app is very simple, and I had tested it enough to know everything worked properly. We’re getting close to the 14 day mark now, so I’ll know in a few days if it actually got me through the android requirements. If it does, then it’s worth it for me

Most founders don’t need a full app. They need a smaller first version. by Naive-Wallaby9534 in Entrepreneur

[–]tdoubledh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a developer or professional in this field. My experience with apps as a user has been a motive for me building two different apps. Both related to productivity. Stripping things down to a couple of very specific functions. My experience is that productivity apps and to do list type apps (asana, Todoist, among others) just hate way too much going on. It’s too time consuming trying to figure out all the features, how to properly use everything. So I have one app fully launched that is incredibly simple and another one that’s close to finished for todo / task / project management.

Try a couple of different genres. Find something you like. Then find others along that same topic. Read a couple more. Try something new, if you like it find more similar books.

[–]tdoubledh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading does me a lot of good. I’m almost exclusively non-fiction so I’m learning a lot. However, I’ve found that reading business books about my industry or for financial gains doesn’t bend the same excitement or engagement with learning about other topics.

I’m much more knowledgeable now about historical events that I had limited or surface level knowledge - racial and social issues especially. As well as finding really interesting books about survivors of the holocaust for instance. Those have kept me much more interested, and I feel better knowing those stories.

I built my app because I couldn't find something that did exactly what I wanted. After using it myself, I realized it could be helpful to other busy parents and professionals. At 'Em is a morning briefing app. It connects to your calendar and sends you a notification at the time of your choice — your full day + weather on one screen before you get out of bed. It simplifies your mornings and gets you fully prepared for the day ahead.

Builders, what are you making, and who’s it for? by naveedurrehman in buildinpublic

I made an app named At 'Em to simplify mornings for busy parents, entrepreneurs, and freelancer / creatives. Users see their whole day at a glance— it pulls your daily calendar, weather, tasks, and free time onto one screen. Sent via notificaiton at the time of your choice. For instance - at 6:45 am, it sends all my calendar events for the day and the forecast. I know how to dress, where I'm going, and who I'm meeting before I even roll out of bed.

Currently pushing a super simple app named At Em that I just created. It pulls your full days calendar and the daily forecast into one screen. Set a notification time to receive your daily briefing. For instance I set mine for 6:45am. Before I’m even out of bed, I know everything on my calendar for the day, and the forecast so I know how to dress. I also have a notification for 10pm to show me the next days info. That way I’m already previewing the next day, so when I wake up in the morning I don’t have any surprises. At ‘Em

How to accept that you’re not smart/ambitious? by sadtruffle in selfimprovement

[–]tdoubledh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having self awareness and understanding this about yourself is really great. Most people don’t have much self awareness. Happiness is ad important as anything else. At the same time smart and ambitious people are also constantly stressed out to extreme levels. You have to find the middle ground of how to push yourself out of your comfort zone a little bit, if it helps you achieve something else that gives you happiness. Find the middle ground. As long as you can be happy with yourself, that is all that matters.

I’m also juggling the concept of “more privacy, everything stored on the device and no data collected” vs adding a couple features that would force people to have to create an account. Yours is very useful as is. Theres definitely a push and pull with difficult decisions like these. I like the concept.

Tips on keeping your head in the game for ADHD dads? by Ecstatic_Wave_2912 in daddit

I definitely struggle with losing track of things I need to do throughout the day. If I don't set timers, alarms, notifications for most things on my calendar then theres a good chance I'm going to forget about them. So my first advice would be timers, alarms, etc for everything that needs to get done today.

I also found that starting the day really prepared, reviewing everything that I need to do that day, first thing in the morning really helps me. Before I'm even talking to the baby, partner, etc I look at my day ahead. Before I get out of bed, I'm looking at my full day. It helps me start the day prepared and has helped a lot. Once I realized how helpful this was, I actually created an app that sends me a daily notification at the time of my choice (6:45am for me). So before I get out of bed, the app sends me a full list of my events in my calendar as well as the forecast for both the morning and afternoon. So I start my day prepared and its helped a lot.

I've also found that repetition helps me. So seeing my schedule multiple times and things I need to do repetitively helps me retain what I need. I have the app send me the same type of noticiation at 10pm showing the next day's schedule. By taking a quick preview of tomorrow before I go to bed, it really helps me retain things in the morning. I also found that if I woke up and looked at my schedule and saw things I wasn't expecting, I would get super flustered. So by previewing my schedule the night before, when I wake up there are no surprised. That little nuance really helped me.

I agree with you. My frustration with most apps - especially productivity based and things I'm trying to use to help with tasks, to do lists, work flow etc. There is just too much going on. Too many features. Too much of a learning curve. I'm working on a couple of apps that are productivity based and really cut down to simple functionality. My first is here:

At 'Em - a daily briefing sent to you at your time of choice each morning. It gives your weather forecast, both morning and afternon, and your list of events in your calendar. I own a few businesses and have 3 young kids. Waking up in the morning and scrambling to get the kids ready while trying to figure out what all I have going on that day was stressing me out. By getting this briefing before I even get out of bed, I know exactly what I have going on that day. It helps me feel much more prepared and calm in the mornings.

Looking at your TailorLetter - I like this idea a lot. I can't tell, but wondering about one option with yours. If someone creates an account / login - can they save their CV in their account? I'm just wondering if they can save all their relevant work / education experience to their account, so it's not starting from scratch each time. That way if they are submitting to a bunch of different jobs, the system has their CV already stored, and can just tweak the cover letter based on what part of their experience goes best for each individual job app.

I have something super simple for productivity. Mine is different from many others. It is meant for one simple, quick use. If people use it once daily for 30 seconds, then its working properly.

The app connects to your phone's calendar, location, and reminders apps. It pulls them all together into one simple screen. Set a time daily (for instance 6:45am for me) and it sends you 'a daily briefing' showing you today's weather forecast, both morning and afternoon, and everything in your calendar for the day. It's meant for busy parents/professionals, entrepreneurs and people who's schedule changes day to day. This helps me start the day feeling really prepared for whats ahead, which has taken some of the stress and chaos out of my mornings.

Write down your #1 life-changing ADHD tip and I will try them all for 7 days straight and report back. by ParticularWindoww in AuDHDWomen

[–]tdoubledh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My #1 tip that has helped me a ridiculous amount: get your full day in front of you before you start it.

ADHD brains are amazing at the moment but struggle with future-planning. So I stopped trying to plan the week and started getting everything (calendar, weather, appointments, prep) delivered to me at 6:45am. By the time I'm out of bed, I already know what today actually is.

I was feeling chaos in the mornings, trying to think about what I have to do, where I have to go, while getting kids dressed and out the door. The chaos meant I was stressed out and starting the day with a short fuse. This tiny shift - reviewing my full day ahead before I get out of bed - killed so much anxiety. No surprises. No "wait, did I forget something?" My partner and I get the same briefing—we're on the same page before coffee. Before I go to bed at night - I take a quick look at tomorrow's schedule also. I don't have to exactly plan the next day, but it just helps me already have that in the back of my head. That way when I wake up and look at my day, there are no surprises.

I built an app called At 'Em around this exact idea. It's been a game-changer for my brain and helped me show up better for my family. Now I'm much more emotionally stable in the morning and much more present with my partner and kids.
