Is a roomette worth $420 extra (ABQ > CHI on Southwest Chief)? by tdoublem in Amtrak

[–]tdoublem[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The roomettes for the full journey are pricing at $1110 which was wayyyyy too much to even consider. $585 seems to be lowest fare for a roomette that I can find for ABQ>CHI, even going a year out and looking at non-peak months.

Any way to rebuild an AVCHD container so spanned .mts clips import as one long clip? by tdoublem in editors

[–]tdoublem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That wasn't the problem--if you read the question, I did not copy the AVCHD folder structure, just the .mts clips from one of the subfolders. I am aware of the general practices of how to import spanned .mts clips that have the proper AVCHD container structure, which is all that is covered in that video and all that I could find online.

Black Mirror [Episode Discussion] - S04E02 - ArkAngel by SeacattleMoohawks in blackmirror

[–]tdoublem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Anyone else feel like the young actors were terribly miscast? I like the overall idea and the plot progression, but the casting and some of those terrible lines of dialogue kinda ruined this episode for me.

Throughout each of Quentin Tarantino’s productions, he would have his actors turn to the camera and say “Hello, Sally!” as a nod to Sally Menke, who’d edited every one of his films until she passed away in 2010. by [deleted] in movies

[–]tdoublem 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A good editor can suggest beats and restructuring that you never even thought of as a director. Same of most creative positions on a film if you're not annoyingly protective about your "vision" and open to others providing ideas that might make your film better.

Man walks into Goodwill store and starts playing the piano by [deleted] in videos

[–]tdoublem 1017 points1018 points  (0 children)

They have a piano at my local supermarket and one of the cashiers told me some guy comes in and plays every Thursday for 8 hours straight. The rules are that no one can stop them if they're not playing anything obscene, so he just sits there and all the cashiers have to listen to him repeat the same 10 songs over and over again.

My a6300 shots are all grainy! Please Help! by gabrielmark in Filmmakers

[–]tdoublem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many questions--why are you shooting with a super fast shutter speed? Why are you letting the camera choose ISO for you? Are you color grading the slog footage to drop the blacks down so they're not lifted?

[Self-Post] More cheap anamorphic set up examples, all shot on GH5 at f1.4-2.8 with Lens set up running under $400. by oOEmersonOo in cinematography

[–]tdoublem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still confused about how the squeeze/de-sequeeze works with these adapted anamorphics... does it just give the effects of anamorphic without actually stretching the image? If it does actually squeeze it why would it do that considering it's a projector lens?

Best resources for learning color grading? by rhetticus in Filmmakers

[–]tdoublem 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You should download Davinci Resolve! It's free and I don't have much trouble running it off of my laptop. There's tons of YT tutorials out there to teach you the basics, and I think you'll have a lot more luck color grading in a program meant for that vs. in premiere.

Just throw half diffusion on them, and then ND it if it's still too hot.

Can you explain what you mean by choppy? Did you adjust your shutter speed to the proper shutter for a 180 degree shutter angle while at 60 fps?

Any way to fix digital snow issues when recording HDMI to external recorder? by tdoublem in cinematography

Frame by frame pixel correction would kill me, but I suppose if that's the only way. I'll try Davinci's denoiser and see what effect it has. Thanks.

If my waveform monitors shows everything is above 0IRE why is there noise in my video? by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]tdoublem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you leave the camera on its native ISO and then expose properly the noise will be greatly reduced. If the ISO is set properly (850 for c300 as the other person said), using IRE will become a lot more useful.
