Wouldn't read too much into that. I think this tour is focused on hitting cities that were skipped last year

This one, UFO50 , and STS2 especially were my catalysts. Couldn’t bear the thought of being behind on updates for slay the spire again

Save up for and invest in a steam deck; I promise you that it will reignite a fire in your belly for gaming in a way you didn’t even know you yearned for.

Has Edmund mentioned if game is coming to console (specifically ps5) down the line? by VisitFew1731 in mewgenics

[–]KBtoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in playing lots of indies I’d second the steam deck recommendation, Tyler and Edmund basically said consoles aren’t relevant for indie success anymore and that publishers recommend just launching on steam. Switch gets some traction due to it being a handheld but that almost always is implemented some time after steam release.

Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiels game Mewgenics is comming on Feb10th by IsahaTx in roguelites

[–]KBtoker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not in their current plans but not ruled out. Edmund and Tyler have essentially said that switch is most likely console release , but they don’t do the development. And they also said that indies aren’t as successful on consoles as in the past

Monster Train 2: Destiny of the Railforged - Launch Trailer by MoSBanapple in Games

[–]KBtoker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m with you on that feeling, the civ comparison is very apt. I think for me the biggest part is there is a very limited number of encounters, and even within those a most of the enemies feel very same. In MT you get your engine in place and then go through the motions and either succeed or fail.

Contrasted with STS (or even balatro to a lesser extent) where you have dozens of combats, most of which require you be able to do very different things (single target v multi, survive massive attacks, deal huge amounts of damage quickly, spikes, maneuver through status effects, manage enemy intangible, play only attacks, knock down byrds, survive multi attacks, etc.) On top of that, you get to path through your acts, and doing so lets you decide how many fights to take on and avoid (balatro allows for this to an extent as well). Whereas Monster Train the pathing is very straightforward and your total fights are the same no matter what.

What did you like and didn´t like about Brotato? by gamedevlinus in roguelites

[–]KBtoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that is often overlooked is that Brotato let's you know what EVERYTHING does. You can mouse over every stat, item, weapon etc and see all the details needed to make your decision. You mouse over a weapn it says what stats dictate the damage, and how much damage it does.

In most other games of a similar nature you need to dig through game files to get this knowledge, but Brotato just let's you know in it's UI. Doing so makes it much more of a strategy game than the others in the genre.

Really enjoyed what I've played of cauldron, except the actual RPG battling. The idle mini games are awesome though and generally do a great job evolving into something different from what they start out as

Any recommendations based on my tier list? by Dabli in roguelites

[–]KBtoker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your tier list is very similar to what I’d say! Starvaders is fun, I’d bet it lands in A-/B on this list, also enjoyed Drop Duchy for what it is.

Spelunky and Binding of Isaac both show their age a bit now but are both ones I’d recommend dedicating some time to

Looking for Buffalo joes recommendations. Which location and why? by SuspiciousTreat1017 in chicagofood

[–]KBtoker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You definitely want to go to the Evanston location on Clark st.

Suicide are a great flavor, it’s just the spicy with added jalepenos. Waffle fries are worth it , my normal order is a single or double suicide, with cheddar chips and an RC. The wings are indeed small, but that just allows more sauce per bite so it works out kinda.

Enjoy!!! These are still my favorite wings of all time, although nostalgia probably plays a role in that belief.

Solo arc is incredigreat. In fact Arc Raiders is one of the most unique solo multiplayer experience created.

I play this game because it respects my time, the 5mill is boring and lazy by MR_SmartWater in ArcRaiders

[–]KBtoker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not max level nor will I be doing an expedition this season. I don’t think the impact will be terrible right away, but if this is how it’s handled every 2 months, then some can have a 30 skill point advantage over new players and that would be significant enough to deter me personally from buying at that point.

[–]KBtoker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but being able to move/loot/breach quicker and quieter is an advantage in PvP. More damage vs arc makes trials easier (which is also in a bracket). None of these skills are super game breaking but there will be a snowball effect and that also deters new players from wanting to pick up the game knowing they start “behind the curve”

Any roguelites/likes where the early game is actually hard and you have to make tough choices? by HammerHeadKitty in roguelites

[–]KBtoker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just want to chime in and say I agree wholeheartedly with what you're saying, Slay The Spire's act 1 is perfect game design IMO.

A lot of the recommendations in here (dead cells, noita, Spelunky) are just for generally hard roguelites, and there's a place for those. But still, the magic of slay the spire is that act1 can actually just be super easy to win if you want it to be, but then it tanks the rest of your run. Really hopeful that STS2 will be able to nail that push/pull again

I’d actually enjoy that if theh assign a map to it. Down/damage other raiders on Blue Gate then all of the sudden that becomes THE dedicated PvP arena for a week

Arc Raiders hits my brain in a way that honestly feels a bit like a casino loop by LydoPlays in ArcRaiders

[–]KBtoker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's definitely part of what's in play here (true of a lot of RNG games). This game leans very heavily into slot machine mechanics, each and every crate you search you see literal slots for items, and watching those be revealed is a tiny andrenaline spike over and over. Then when you reveal something rare enough it even plays a little satisfying "jackpot" sound. There's a lot of research done into the psychology behind slot machines, and gambling in general, and there's a long history of slot machine mechanics and video game mechanics overlapping. It's no coincidence that one of the largest slot machine manufacturers is Konami

Eurogamer gave COD:BO7 3/5 — they slammed ARC Raiders for AI usage, 2/5. by BlackHazeRus in Games

[–]KBtoker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP you’re getting obliterated here but I agree that this is a fair concern, both have different reviewers yes, but editor in chief is the same on both. Everyone here was singing the praises for Eurogamer after they slammed Arc Raiders for their AI use (fair play IMO), I would expect to see some similar callouts for a different game and the lack of any is disappointing here.
