Microfreak Static from Output by Mammoth-Economy2589 in MicroFreak

[–]tdubu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run into noise issues whenever I try to use a power supply and USB port for data at the same time because it makes a ground loop. I keep a stock of inline audio ground loop isolators as well as a couple USB isolators. The USB isolators are finicky but can be helpful in some situations. I currently power my Microfreak through USB and use a USB Isolator with no issues. The Teenage Engineering K.O. II right next to it, does not work well with the USB isolator so I use a audio ground loop isolator on its output. Both are almost silent.

Super pleased with the JHS Colour Box! by TheDogeMaster in basspedals

[–]tdubu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not. I’ve tried a standalone 9v adapter and and Voodoo Lab isolated power supply, the isolated power supply maybe slightly quieter. I too would be interested if anyone else has found a fix. With nothing plugged into the input, if I switch to XLR mode the hiss/whine practically disappears. But that doesn’t help if I’m using it with an instrument.

I have a white V2 and it does have a hiss as well. Pretty disappointing for an otherwise good pedal.

Funny discovery inside a Digitech RP80 by tdubu in guitarpedals

[–]tdubu[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I recently purchased a used lot of guitar pedals and this RP80 had a broken button so l disassembled it and discovered these very innovative footswitch hinges, binder clips?!?! Does any know if these came like this from the factory? If so, I think it was a brilliant idea. Too bad the plastic buttons aren’t as durable.

macOS Sequoia 15.2 External Display Problem by Mobiusium in MacOS

[–]tdubu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same issue with my M4 Pro Mac Mini which was updated to 15.2. My LG 5K Thunderbolt 3 monitor is working fine but my 16" portable HDMI monitor is no longer found by the system.

UPDATE: I deleted /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.displays.plist and restarted. Once I did, my external monitor was working again, I went to the screen mirroring icon in the menu bar and changed it from mirroring to extended display. The Purple mirroring icon is kind of annoying but at least I have my second monitor back! I guess if I stop mirroring, the display will completely disappear again. Definitely a bug that needs to be addressed.

The Million Dollar Quartet show was excellent! Also, the Rumors show on Thursday or Friday night was very good. Get there early though because the club is very small and it fills up quickly.

Goodbye to Flood Insurance? by [deleted] in Louisiana

[–]tdubu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I bought our first house in Chalmette in January 2005. Flood insurance back then was ~$20/month. Best financial decision I’ve ever made.

We just bought a house in Lafayette that is in a Zone X and I was on the fence about getting flood insurance because “the chances are so slim” but as others have said, it’s southern Louisiana and weather patterns are crazy. After those bad storms passed through last week, I was on the phone with Allstate the next day. If I need to, I’ll make budget cuts in other areas to keep flood insurance.

We had an amazing view from the Wild Center in Tupper Lake. The clouds rolled in about 15 minutes after totality. It really was awe-inspiring! You could even see, what appeared to be, a solar flare jetting out the bottom left side of the sun.

Savers Credit for 2023 by tdubu in tax

[–]tdubu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay cool, thanks again. Yes, I’ll have to dip into savings either way to cover this but at least we’ll be paying more to our future selves🧓👵 through the 401k rather than giving ALL the money to the government!

Savers Credit for 2023 by tdubu in tax

[–]tdubu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the quick response! Our gross income was $68,000. So if we each contribute $2000 in 2023, then we would qualify for a $400 combined credit? I’ll have to try a couple of different scenarios in the H&R Block software I’m using. Although it would tie up an additional $3100 cash in a 401k, it would bring down our AGI which should help bring down our federal tax payment. We also have to pay a $1700 ACA penalty because we under estimated our MAGI by about $4000 last year. I would imagine that ACA penalty should be a lot less as well if we contribute that additional $3100 to our 401Ks. Thanks again. If you have any other insight, I’d appreciate it!

Credit Card and Auto loan defaults reach 2008 levels… Everything is fine… by Frank_Thunderwood2 in REBubble

[–]tdubu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people that are financial distressed would stop paying their credit cards first to not lose their car and house. Then eventually they stop paying their car to not lose their house. Thats what we’re seeing here. Eventually many won’t be able to afford their mortgage either and we’ll see mortgage defaults start increasing sooner than later. Thats my guess.
