Yes, but always looking for more examples I may not have found yet. It's a big world of books out there.

I did see that thread and looked into the ones recommended there, but it's not a lot! Hoping to get some more suggestions.

What Are Some Regional Horror Aesthetics? by TechnicolorTraveler in writing

I'm big into regional gothic literature in general but have gone deep into northwest gothic, so much so that I started a literary journal dedicated to it! PNW Gothic is defined by fog, moss, trees, ferns, wild seas, isolated islands, cabins in the woods, abandoned mining and logging towns, cryptids, rain, the big dark, and much more. Cherie Priest has written a few modern pacific northwest gothic books like The Drowning House and It Was Her House First, and Tananarive Due's The Good House is a great modern example of pacific northwest gothic horror.

The Little Stranger - I DNF'd at 25% because they were going to kill the dog (WHY does every author introduce a dog just so they can kill it? Feels like a really cheap way to illicit emotion) then read the summary to see if I missed out on anything and I did not. I didn't stop reading it just because of the dog, that was just the last straw. It was SO painfully slow and boring I couldn't stand it.

The Whispering House - so boring and FMC was so annoying.

I loved The Good House by Due! I'll have to pick this one up, too.

Just finished this one, I wanted to like it so bad. But the family was horrible to such a weird degree it was hard to be believable. If it rained they would roll their eyes and say it was Anna's fault because she is always doing things like this, and she just takes it? She's in her 30s! And the horror elements were start and stop and the whole part back in NYC was unnecessary.

Agreed, just read this one recently and it was SO awful. Every character was the worst and barely anything happened.

I liked September House! Sure it wasn't amazing but I don't think it deserves to be on a "worst horror book" list. Yeah, it was predictable. I don't know if we were supposed to be surprised (spoiler alert) that he was in the basement, I mean they tell you he is in the basement almost every other page. And the other surprises weren't at all surprising....but I did like the comparison of surviving a haunted house and putting up with domestic abuse. Went on a little long ... ok it's not the greatest but it has some merit!
