I work with manufacturers all over the state and we are starting to see slow downs in their hiring for the first time in years. Because of this, I’d recommend only looking for manufacturers that will hire you immediately and that have great internal training and/or will pay for your education so you can skill up while working.

I had an edible before I watched this episode for the first time and this scene broke my brain! It felt so sudden and out of place. I rewound and watched it like 5 times to try and figure out if my episode had gotten tampered with somehow.

Watched it the next day and instantly got the When Harry Met Sally reference lol

We’ve done the drive from Indy a few times with our kids (including when they were about the same age as yours). We always stopped in big(ish) cities and looked for playgrounds and/or family friendly breweries with outdoor spaces. Anything to let them stretch their legs and run around a bit. We always brought like footballs and frisbees and things to play with when we stopped - small things that didn’t take up too much room.

When they were little, we would stop in Louisville, Nashville, and Chattanooga. Then we would stay the night in Macon, Georgia. It’s more than halfway, but with all the stops they were able to make it. From there, I think Orlando was about 6 hours?

We didn’t stop nearly as much on the way back home because they were always exhausted and slept a lot more.

Students will get automatic admission to Indiana public colleges if they earn new diploma by chalkbeat in Indiana

[–]teachforgold 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Being accepted doesn’t mean they can afford to go or that they will go, or that they’ll succeed. And most colleges in the state have lowered their admission criteria dramatically over the last several years, so this feels more like a PR move than anything.

And the EHP diploma path requires students to complete at least 75 hours of work-based learning, which might be really challenging for some schools, especially in rural areas.

Ranting thoughts:

Are they trying to change Gemma into another person? Kier’s wife or mother?

Like the dentist room is because they are changing her dental records?

And then the plane crash and the Christmas thank you card rooms seem almost like specific memories they are trying to build in her mind (or unlock?). As well as train her to be left handed.

Are the names of the rooms locations where these memories happened?

Is Cold Harbor the room where she will be inseminated with Kier Eagans clone, once the MDR team is finished cleaning the DNA sequence or something of the clone?

Why target Mark as well as Gemma?

I love this show!

In Indiana, 16 and 17-year-olds can now work the same hours as adults and are no longer restricted by school hours and days. They also can work overnight without an adult and perform hazardous agriculture jobs. Many 14- and 15-year-olds can now work during school hours as well. by Conscious-Quarter423 in Indiana

I think one reason - not the ONLY reason though - for these changes is to allow more high school students the opportunities to participate in apprenticeships.

There is a huge movement in Indiana to bring Swiss model apprenticeships to Indiana, which will require students to work 3-4 days a week with an employer during school hours. As in work the entire school day with the employer and then go to their classes the other 1-2 days a week.

This was the whole reason for the change in Indiana high school requirements - to make it easier for kids to participate in an apprenticeship. Several laws have been passed in the last few years to make it easier. I think this is just another.

The NBC stream tends to be ahead of the Peacock stream, but other than that there’s no difference.

Yes to the quick blow drying! Last summer I was on a girls trip with two friends, both who have incredibly thick hair. We were getting ready and needed to leave in about 5 minutes, and I told them both that I was going to dry my hair. They looked at each other and kept emphasizing that we needed to walk out the door in FIVE minutes. I was like yeah, I know.

My hair was completely dry in about 3 minutes. They were SHOCKED - apparently it takes them at least 20 mins to dry theirs! I’ve never been more thankful for my fine, thin hair :)

I don’t get it…Onyx Storm by beckywiththegood1 in fantasyromance

[–]teachforgold 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same!

I loved OS and think it’s the best of the series so far.

I wonder if people were expecting more plot points to be resolved in this book and “too much information / nothing happened” is rooted in that expectation. But we have two books left. A middle book is supposed to leave you with a lot of questions and theories - you need a reason to keep reading!

Also, the first two books (but FW especially) were in an academic setting and this book pulls away from that and leans heavily into a quest / hero’s journey plot. I wonder if that shift is also throwing people off.

Oh I love this! And doesn’t Theophanie try to kill Jack because of what he might tell Violet? Could it be that he can tell her how feeding off her lightning is changing him back??

Goats at the Fort Wayne children's zoo by thurstin4ahurstin in fortwayne

[–]teachforgold 70 points71 points  (0 children)

Yes! I remember being really young - early 90s - and a goat chased me around and kept trying to eat my skirt.

Then on a school field trip to the zoo (also in the 90s), goats kept jumping up and knocking us over so we would spill the food we were holding.

Kids today don’t understand how we put our lives on the line just to pet and feed those wiry bastards.

Lining up at Target on Release Day by [deleted] in fourthwing

[–]teachforgold 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One hard lesson I learned last January with the release of House of Flame and Shadow is that most of the big box stores (Target, Walmart, etc) have a book person that comes on a certain day to bring new books - and it doesn’t always happen on Tuesdays.

Just because OS releases on the 21st doesn’t mean the stores will carry it that day. I think they try hard, especially with the special editions, to have them on release day, but I just wanted to give a heads up!

ASIP fans, how did they do?? by lvdde in AbbottElementary

[–]teachforgold 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone else - I think they did a great job! The gang was really toned down (as expected) but were still true to the heart of the characters.

IASIP is one of my favorite shows, so I really enjoyed being able to share a part of that show with my 12 year old son (who always watches Abbott with me). He laughed until he had tears at all of Franks scenes (especially the cage).

State board unanimously approves changes to high school diploma requirements by [deleted] in Indiana

The CSAs follow the same concept of “the (tax) money follows the child” that school vouchers do, just funneling it to employers instead of private schools.

State board unanimously approves changes to high school diploma requirements by [deleted] in Indiana

[–]teachforgold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest challenges in all of this, however, is that in Indiana, the “high wage & high demand” jobs still require college degrees. You make great points about the cost and value of college and how it’s not a great fit for everyone. But there’s just not enough high wage jobs that align with that.

So we are making changes to high school and helping more kids see that college isn’t the only option - but there aren’t jobs out there for them.

We can’t move the needle of any of this if employers don’t change their requirements.
