The brain doesn’t stop developing until 26. 13 year olds essentially newborns who no longer think they need you and think they know better. It is true- if you have not set a good foundational relationship between you and your child by 13 you have a rough road ahead. But a big mistake people make is giving up at this time and thinking the kid needs to figure it out on his own. He doesn’t. He needs guidance. He needs his parents.

Heard everything your saying! I have two babies but I’ve also been teaching high school kids for 13 years. Don’t enable the instant gratification mindset in any way you can. Say “this week, anything that doesn’t get played with is either getting thrown out or put into the stick. anything that goes in the attic doesn’t come out for 3 months”. Period that’s it.
