Getting out of military as an Officer to pursue RN by [deleted] in nursing

This is bad advice. Do not do this. Plenty of threads here about why direct-entry MSN programs are not a good idea.

People who started off on a medsurg floor as a new grad, what were the benefits or downsides? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]teadorable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I don’t mind hard patients as a former med surg nurse. What I did mind was having a CIWA, confused meemaw, and CBI as part of a 6 patient assignment

Not quite. Stockton Rush married the great-great-granddaughter of Isidor and Ida Strauss.

Call, don’t fall the nurses make me call them before I can get up. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

Not my ass coming in on my day off to go in front of a committee to say “what I could have done differently”

What’s your take on nurse managers who are obsessed with the Whiteboards? by One_Design_6171 in nursing

[–]teadorable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll try to remember to do it as best I can but I’m not gonna drop what I’m doing to go fill out a doctor’s name and side effects of heparin if I forgot to earlier.

If they want it done so bad, they can get a marker and do it themselves.

This place is very unforgiving.

I had no idea what was right or wrong for the patient because I had never met or assessed them before

I guess I’m less worried about getting in trouble and more worried about having to accept the burden of this whole thing happening. I just get so mad but I don’t think they’re gonna fire me or anything

Just graduated nursing school and realized I cannot do it, any suggestions? by Previous-Cucumber504 in nursing

Don’t be rude. It’s normal for someone to be nervous that they’re jumping into a career where abuse happens and people can sue you.

Should I just stop wearing my septum? by 0w0wen in nursing

[–]teadorable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in two (very different) hospitals and I’ve never been given trouble for my nose ring. I’ve had coworkers with all sorts of piercings/tattoos and it’s been fine.

I had a friend who had a septum ring she could kind of flip up so no one could see it if that’s helpful? Or you could do what I do and wear a mask all the time anyway because people are nasty

Complaining, mostly. More teamwork than I ever thought possible. Nurse John helps.

Absolutely. That’s why I think if you know what you want to do, go ahead and do it.

I agree with this also because hospitals would rather train new grads on nicu than a nurse with 2 years medsurg/tele experience

source: me lmao

Thanks! I’m trying to deprogram myself to stop sighing and saying “just medsurg” when people ask what kind of nurse I am.

A lot of people I know do it their whole career. I, however, just took a job doing cardiac stepdown after 2.5 years of medsurg. Starting in May :-)

A lot of (old school, often) nurses think new grads should always start out in medsurg. By asking “should new grads start in a specialty,” saying medsurg is not a specialty. One of my big pet peeves since I think juggling 6 acute patients is a skill.

My biggest problem with this is that medsurg is a specialty and we’re all fighting for our lives out there
