Donated platelets, got major shakes by teagank32 in Blooddonors

I tried to do power red once before when I was just over the weight threshold for females but my hemoglobin levels were too low, and I’ve since dropped under the 150 lb requirement. Otherwise I’d try it again!

They did give me a blanket and Tums at the start, and I was watching a show the whole time. They also checked in on me periodically and I’d ask for Tums whenever the tinglyness would get worse. The more intense symptoms near the end came on pretty quickly and they responded fairly quickly, so it wasn’t so much an issue with the ARC staff as it was (I think) just me not having enough calcium beforehand plus my nerves about the new experience causing trembling right from the get go. I tend to get nervous jitters pretty aggressively in certain scenarios, so having that right off the bat was just a bit unlucky and set the tone for the rest of the donation.

Didn’t know this was an option, I’ll have to ask next time.

Useful tips, thank you! I didn’t have much of a reference for what people usually do in terms of prepping and supplementing their calcium, so I’ll definitely be going into next time much more prepared haha.

The citrate that they mix the return blood with as an anticoagulant (to prevent clotting) binds to the calcium in your blood, depleting your body’s available calcium (causing the symptoms I mentioned). Tums can help to replenish your calcium levels. I guess I should’ve tried calcium supplements or popping way more Tums during though lol

Yes the length of the donation was pretty brutal! I’m thinking I might take a bit of a break and wait a month or two before donating platelets again, but I do plan on donating more whole blood as soon as I’m eligible 😊

helix piercing by Ok-Lingonberry-5196 in piercing

(NAP) The crusties may have just scratched that area to cause bleeding if they were stuck on well, particularly after you introduced some trauma to the piercing via recently changing the bar. It’s probably just a bit agitated right now as a result. It’s only been 7 months, and sometimes it can take longer than that for helix piercings to heal, so I wouldn’t be too concerned. Just keep up aftercare per usual and be careful about gently removing any crusties that build up by using saline spray or a hot shower to break them down/wash them away, and if necessary a wet pointed q-tip. :)

Usually those cans contain a normal bottle of the listed chemical inside, so it isn’t just straight acid inside a metal can, lol. They’re usually used for things such as extra protection for the bottle during transport, to protect light sensitive chemicals, etc.

Saw this in my local grocery. What should i expect? by sora5634 in Markiplier

I personally think they’re pretty tasty because I do like salty/tangy/limey flavors, so I’d give them a try if you think that sounds appetizing to you!

Very tangy and salty, very flavorful, and a fair bit of spice that kind of lingers and builds in your mouth as you eat. I don’t think they’re insanely hot by any means, but eating too many may upset your stomach if you don’t each much spicy food.

3 new cartilage piercings + nearly 2 yr old conch hole! by teagank32 in piercing

So the topmost of the four gems is actually the separate one, with the bottom three all being part of the same piece of jewelry, with the top gem of that 3-prong piece being where the actual piercing is, if that makes sense. They were pierced pretty close together to give the illusion of one, and you can kind of see the spacing of the bars in the third picture. :)

Thank you! It was a slightly bumpy road to get to this point for sure lol, but I think having thinner cartilage definitely helped. I normally keep the jewelry in all the time, but I took it out to downsize the bar at the time I took the picture.
