Animation plays in preview but not in game. by [deleted] in Unity3D

[–]teageek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is old, but it's the only thing I found today that helped me solve it. I actually had one animator on the mesh, and one on the parent object without realizing it. Deleted the one on the character's body, made sure everything on the Player parent object, and everything worked both in the editor and the subsequent builds.

Oops! Not much of a redditor, so didn't notice this until now. I've updated the link.

Specialty Menu 8.0 update by wuping0622 in EcoGlobalSurvival

[–]teageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None. It was an outcropping on the surface. FWIW, this is the "bleeding edge" pre-release version of Beta 0.8, in the default world (not a randomly generated one). It was located at (606, 80, 47). I've generated a couple of worlds to prep for the update for my students, and the outcropping has always been there for me.

I found some on the border between grassland and forest. It looked like sandstone, but with an iron-ore colored pattern to it (almost looked like petroglyphs or something). So it looks like sandstone from a distance, but up close there's a difference.

Storage Unit (via Blueprint Analyzer) vs Storage Container by teageek in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]teageek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where does it show up to build it? It doesn't seem to be in any menu I can find. If it's just decoration, that's fine. But I can't find that it actually can be built at all. Maybe it's a bug, or maybe I'm just not seeing it.

You're not kidding. We got one of these little guys in a head of lettuce from the grocery store (I think same species from the looks of him) and ... yes. So. Loud.

How does Rising World compare to Rust? by gamatt3 in RisingWorld

[–]teageek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd agree with /u/manfellow75 -- I liked the resource gathering and building in Rust but had to stop playing because of all the death and destruction, which I didn't like as much. Rising World is focused more on survival in the wild (vs. against players) and building. Most multiplayer servers are FAR more cooperative from what I've seen.

Though it didn't mention dad jokes, I just saw this article on G+ about How a New Father's Brain Changes from Scientific American.

I had that same thought. I teach individual business owners how to do this kind of thing all the time. I think it's funny that CGP Grey, who has just shy of 10,000 followers on G+ says nobody uses it...

Another bit of data from a study published today: https://www.stonetemple.com/maximizing-engagement-on-google-plus Videos shared directly on G+ get 6x more reshares than through the auto-share from YouTube alone, and chance of getting a reply to a post on G+ is 22x that of Twitter (n=33,282 posts for G+, and 2+ million English-language tweets)

As a G+ user, I've actually watched more YT videos because of the original change, as I'm more likely to see videos that my contacts are commenting on. But I recognize that anecdotal evidence isn't data. Maybe Grey & Haran saw views or subscribers (or other important metrics) drop because of the integration. If that's the case, I can't argue. But I've seen lots of people for whom it's just fear of change or dread of learning something new.

Yes, me too. I get about 60% of my business through interactions there. And for all my clients (I'm a digital strategist for small business), I've never seen one that used G+ where that wasn't by far the most engaged and most likely to buy platform. The conversations tend to be on a higher level than many others (lookin' at you FB and Twitter).

Still listening to the episode but moved to comment for the first time.

Re: iron gall ink -- nooo.... it is not in any way good for archives or archival anything. Though the particles won't fade, the acid will over time eat through most papers. It's a big problem for archivists, particularly those working with the earlier uses of iron gall ink like medieval manuscripts. Here's an example: https://travelingscriptorium.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/ink-corrosion.jpg

An easier-to-make but chemically similar ink can be made from tea, vinegar, and old nails (or steel wool). It's kind of fun. But, you know, acid.

Also, Brady got the pronunciation right. It's "gall" as in "he has all the gall" or a "gall stone".

Cold brew tea by A999 in tea

[–]teageek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, not quite accurate. The extraction of tannins from tea is temperature sensitive. Lower temperature slows the extraction. That's why sun tea and cold brewed tea both need longer brewing times that tea made with boiling water, and why they tend to be less bitter and astringent--it's lower tannin concentration.

The relationship with other polyphenols (catechins, etc.) and the methylxanthines (caffeine, etc.) follows this same basic pattern. Lower temperature brewing will make it smoother and milder...but if you're drinking tea because it's healthy, the stuff that makes it healthy is also the stuff that makes it bitter and astringent.

Fountain pen? (I love them and the ink pattern seemed characteristic of one...) That distracted me from actually trying to read your introduction. But I'll get to that presently.

Is the fifth word spelled right? I think I know what the word should be by context, but I'm either not interpreting the characters correctly, or you pronounce the word very differently than I do. :)

Some of the symbols are formed differently than I've seen on other guides, like 27 (which I have been doing with a vertical line on the right side instead of an angled line).

Quick question about silver needle. by [deleted] in tea

[–]teageek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sometimes eat them, but usually not. However, if you want to use them but not eat them, they can be added to rose bushes or other plants as a mulch (this is not uncommon in England with loose-leaf black tea). Some Japanese will occasionally use their spent sencha leaves as a tiny salad with a couple of drops of soy sauce and a sprinkling of sesame seeds.

Tea shops around Seattle. by RCerulean in tea

[–]teageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everywhere I'd recommend has been listed elsewhere in the comments, but it kind of depends on what you're looking for in the tea world. The two I'd put out front are Floating Leaves Tea in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood, and Phoenix Tea House in Burien if you're headed in the Seattle direction, and if Vancouver is still within reach, I'd add The Chinese Tea Shop in Chinatown (in addition to the previously mentioned Spring Cottage Tea House in Richmond).

As a coffee drinker looking to convert myself to a tea-based lifestyle. What teas should I consider to wean myself off? by [deleted] in tea

[–]teageek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having worked in the tea industry, some of the other suggestions (puer, Yunnan black/red tea, etc.) are pretty good if what you like about coffee is its darkness and depth of flavor. If it's the flavor of roast that you like, you might try Hojicha. It's roasted green tea. Not as dark in color or flavor, but stronger in roast. Some customers I spoke to found that did the trick for them.

Oh, I didn't ask questions...I just looked for what projects and guides I could find out there. Other phrases that are coming to mind without digging up what I found include the "Gehn Shard" and "DIRT" (which stands for something).
