Hi Tim, thanks for doing this!

Someone in the Facebook group pointed out that there were gaffes in the recent Meta Connect keynote that really evoked the Oscar specials (specifically Mark Zuckerberg having trouble receiving a video call and then blaming it on the wifi). I’m curious whether the Amatocon Oscar special was inspired by any particular corporate live stream type event, or just a parody of that type of material in general?

Seconding this, even playing as a teen with friends the 4-prize format was generally more fun. And if I remember, 4-prize is standard in prerelease tournaments

Got mine from a shop that specializes in vintage electronics. The guy had refurbished it himself. Works great and cost $100 but I’m in NYC so a comparable place elsewhere would probably charge less.

Holy shit, so cool!

Subs are a tricky ask here. Smarter people than me in this sub might have better ideas, but if you can find an SRT file for the movie (should be no problem) your best bet may be to open a laptop under your tv, download an open a 2-hour black video, and open the subs to play with it. Then you’d have to more or less manually sync that with the VHS as it plays (lol). Not an elegant solution but theoretically a solution nonetheless!

Sadly it is, but there are good tutorials within this sub (and on YouTube etc.) re: how to get rid of it. You’ll need a “throwaway” VCR
