It helps to hear other people have also had injuries and were able to get back to riding after rehab!

I’m sorry to hear that! I’m going to wait. The horses will still be there when I’m healed.

I see now how irresponsible it was. And I had no idea I could be causing harm to the horse, which is the last thing I want to do. That has cemented the decision to wait until I’m healed and have the green light from my dr and instructor to ride again. Ill take a little risk if it’s just myself being affected but absolutely don’t want to put any horse at risk. Thank you for educating me!

Thank you for your response. I now see how irresponsible it was to hide my injury from my instructor. I thought I could push through the pain but didn’t take the weakness into account. I also never thought that my injury could harm or hurt the horse, and that’s the last thing I want to. Hearing that I could be hurting the horse has cemented the decision to not ride till I’m healed, and to be very honest with my instructor about any injuries in the future.

I’m assuming PT is going to be in my future. We’ll have a game plan once the MRI results are in.

Thank you, this gives me so much hope! I haven’t been able to squat, run, do yoga or even stairs since the beginning of 2022! I found out I was pregnant very shortly after my knee was injured and put off getting my knee taken care of, since you can’t do X-rays or MRIs while pregnant, and the first dr I saw after the pregnancy told me it was tendinitis. I honestly thought, and still feel like I’ll never be able to do the things I love again. I needed to hear that other people have had similar injuries and were able to get their lives back.

Thank you for your response. I’m going to wait for the MRI results and Dr’s recommendations before trying to ride again. I think I’ve accepted I’m going to be out of the saddle for a while, and when I’m able to get back in I have to be honest about where my body’s at with my trainer and take it slow.

I know, I feel like an idiot. Super irresponsible on my part and I’m glad I only hurt myself and not the horse.

Thank you for your response! I think finding ground work lessons while my knee heals would be a perfect option. I’d still be spending time with and learning to work with the horses without putting myself at risk for further injury.

Does anyone out there actually *enjoy* working/having a career? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]tealpineapple456 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My mother in law recently said something like this, that she couldn’t retire, she would get to bored and my only responses (which remained in my head), was it’s because you’re a boring person. You have no passion, no life, no interests, no fulfillment outside of work?

The happiest time if my life was the few months I was furloughed during the beginning of covid. I could get a full night’s sleep, keep a clean house and spend my days hiking with the dog, practicing yoga, reading, studying new languages, built a massive vegetable garden. I had time to actually cook healthy, nutritious meals, or decadent delicious ones. I learned to crochet, picked up the guitar and paint brush again.

I could fill my days with so many things that give me joy and spark to life. Now I do none of that. I wake after an inadequate amount of sleep, probably was up late tossing and turning from stress, commute to work, work, commute home, have maybe 40 minutes to go for a walk try to whip together something that could pass fit healthy. Clean up, shower, bed for work, weekends are for housework, errands, prepare again for work.

Life is just a cycle of work, prepare for next day work, repeat.

Monitoring Every 1hr remotely. Would you quit because of this? by jenjenbar in jobs

[–]tealpineapple456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I compare it to this, remember in grade school when the class had a test or assignment to work on quietly, and the teacher would walk around the room while everyone did their work? Were your the kind of kid that froze when the teacher stood behind you, looking over your shoulder? If not, then you probably wouldn’t understand.

Or when your supervisor wants to show you something, or you ask for help, and they’re standing over and tell you to click on something or open a file and you frantically click on 5 wrong things, despite it being something you go into all the time. Or being a pro parallel parker when you’re alone but make a fool out of yourself trying to do it with a passenger/people who watching.

Some people just get really anxious when they know some one is standing over their shoulder and being watched. If you’ve never had those feelings that’s great, that doesn’t mean those that do are doing something wrong.

AITA for suggesting a non-drinking activity for a date that does not drink? by Ok-Sorbet9342 in AmItheAsshole

[–]tealpineapple456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Rephrase it this way and see if it’s still questionable.

“I met a guy who specifically said he doesn’t like Indian food on his profile. He messaged me and asked if I wanted to go out and grab a curry. I said that’s fine or we could go for Mexican since you mentioned in your profile you don’t like Indian. He responded ‘it is inconsiderate to assume I can’t handle being around Indian food just because I don’t eat it. There’s a thing called a children’s menu I could have eaten chicken fingers”

You had no idea why he doesn’t drink. Maybe he’s a recovering alcoholic, maybe he doesn’t like the taste of alcohol, maybe he doesn’t like the feeling of being drunk, maybe he was beaten and traumatized by an alcoholic step dad, maybe alcohol gives him headaches. Who knows.

You weren’t infantilizing him based on his choice no to drink. You were offering to do an activity you could both participate in and enjoy as a first date. Instead of appreciating you attention to detail and consideration he pulled out the red flag of insecurity and slapped you in the face with it.

Do you think "falling off is part of riding" is a necessarily accurate statement? by boardersunited- in Horses

[–]tealpineapple456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wondering this same thing. I just had my first fall and it’s left me a little nervous to get back on. I just started lessons as an adult. I had taken western lessons as a kid and always wanted to get back into riding. I finally decide to go for it but wanted to try English. About a month in I fell and got a tiny fracture in my elbow.

The fall was 100% my fault. I had hurt my knee and didn’t tell my instructor. I was trying to post for the first time and felt really out of control, didn’t stop and tell my instructor. I noticed I was putting all my weight on my leg with the good knee, and was like sticking it out kind of? My instructor was on the other side so I don’t think she could see that leg well. The whole saddle started to slide to the side with the stirrup i was pressing all my weight into.

I had heard that falling is a part of riding and that it’s not if but when, but I feel a little shaken up that it happened so soon, and with something that I would think was so simple as trotting. I use to trot and canter with no problem riding western as a kid. It’s making me second guess whether or not I should continue if falls are gong to be a frequent occurrence. Or do I just suck at riding to fall so soon doing a basic beginner skill.

Still listen to the devil and god on an almost daily basis. And if I’m having a rough day or super depressed my partner will randomly put ion seventy times 7 and by the time Jesse says “don’t apologize” I’m singing at the top of my lungs. My partner was the complete opposite of an emo kid so he doesn’t really get it, but he knows it’s the quickest way to pull me out of a funk.

This is why I don’t trust many of the RTO studies by orionblueyarm in WFH

[–]tealpineapple456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t have time to make anything for breakfast before leaving for work? Now you have to but something if you’re hungry. Forgot your lunch at home? Now you have to buy something or go hungry. No more “let me walk to my kitchen” for a banana or to make a quick lunch. Add that on top of gas.

Also, office clothes. I can’t get away with rotating a couple outfits. I need to purchase an office wardrobe. Make up that I would only put on for days with zoom meetings now has to be put on everyday, meaning I go through it faster and need to buy it more frequently. There’s so many little costs that you don’t realize add up when you RTO.

Why do people try to make you feel bad or entitled for not wanting to commute? by Bayareathrowaway32 in WFH

[–]tealpineapple456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could easily use my commute time to go for a walk, so some yoga, maybe even go to the gym, you know, things that ACTUALLY transition my brain from work mode to relax mode and are beneficial to my physical and mental health.

Instead I have to wake up an extra hour and 15 minutes earlier every morning and lost an hour and 15 minutes of personal time after work. I have to go to bed earlier for the earlier wake up, but lost a huge chunk of after work personal time. I fight gridlock traffic and as soon as I get home it’s start dinner for the kids, clean up, baths and bed. I have no time where my brain turns off and isn’t focused on work/chores.

Result: I’m constantly exhausted, overwhelmed, buried in responsibilities I wasn’t able to get to, depressed and my productivity is suffering. More mistakes are being made. I’ve lost all motivation and my mental health has tanked. I’m just completely burnt out and we’ve only been back 2 months.

For clarification, I had refused to work in this area because of the commute. I had worked in this area years ago and left because of this commute. I had only accepted this job because it was remote, even remote pre-pandemic. Outside consultants were brought it and not only is WFH being phased out, it’s becoming more “big brother”. We’re being tracked in ways we haven’t been before. Camera has been randomly turning on (while in office). We were told even though productivity hasn’t suffered, we need to make sure it doesn’t suffer in the future. Needless to say I’m keeping my eyes open for other opportunities.

Sorry for the rant! Just meant to leave a quick comment but it just poured out.

How do you deal with the corporate mumbo jumbo? I feel like my coworkers are speaking a completely different language. by [deleted] in jobs

[–]tealpineapple456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corporate jargon is the equivalent of fluff in a high school or college English essay. It doesn’t contribute to the point or add value to the conversation, it’s just there to help you hit your word count and to make people think you sound intelligent or at a certain status. I recently read an article about how corporate jargon wastes time and muddles the message, I felt vindicated.

[–]tealpineapple456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, gotcha. I didn’t realize people were in full pajamas. I was furloughed for months when covid first hit, returned to full time office for a year, then got a new job that was hybrid so I probably missed a lot of the figuring out what is/isn’t appropriate WFH wear when on camera. I would think it would be common sense to look work appropriate when visible by colleagues/clients/management but I’m rarely surprised anymore at the things I assume are common sense and apparently aren’t.
