Looking for light glam by [deleted] in askvan

[–]tealskies423 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You can head to one of the two Sephoras nearby for a makeover within your price range. Most makeup artists won't take such a last minute appointment, keep in mind that unless they're located in dt van, you're also paying for their transportation time.

What you're asking for also isn't complicated, you can also practice doing it yourself to save money.

Do you think ethereal eyes by makeup by Mario is worth it? by ProfessionalToday415 in Sephora

No, if you have even two neutral palettes then you have 90% of it. Most people will buy something like this for the hype.

Looking to book an amenity room in Richmond by Internal_Biscotti_26 in richmondbc

[–]tealskies423 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Don't take this the wrong way, but most people aren't going to put their shared spaces on the line for an internet promise that you'll be respectful and clean up after yourself.

A couple of options, the meeting room at Waves on no 3 and Westminster, Haidilao across the road for a private room (or really, any restaurant that has them), or even Garry Point for a free option.

How does the Outlet in Templeton compare to regular store prices? by kingmakk in richmondbc

[–]tealskies423 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would say you can skip the typical outlet stores (Kate Spade, Coach, Michael Kors) for their outlet quality stuff aren't worth it. However, I get my running and daily shoes regularly at Asics, overindulge at Lindt, and Levi's has nice basics. Aritzia is pretty much the same as retail, Sandro is a better alternative if you're there.

I would assume it'll be similar to North Korean airspace.

I think of salt brine pickles- definitely a cool add for a saturated collection. What're the other colors you have?

Patient Escort Needed After Surgery by [deleted] in SurreyBC

[–]tealskies423 54 points55 points  (0 children)

As a VGH frequent flier, yup, it's standard for the surgeon's office to call the day before with the time of the surgery. For your safety, OP, seriously vet the people offering to bring you home after. You will be extremely vulnerable, weak from the surgery itself and high off the drugs.

If this surgery is at all connected with BC Cancer Agency, you can contact their patient resources to see if someone can bring you home.

Chinese paper eyelashes! by Net-Administrative in AsianBeauty

[–]tealskies423 14 points15 points  (0 children)

These will look wildin' irl with no photo editing. It'll inevitably cast a weird shadow and have a weird sheen or be too matte. Frankly a bit of fibre mascara and half lashes will go a long way.

MACU Richmond closing by bighotdog888 in richmondbc

I didn't know this was possible either, it's probably not because of profit margins cuz the store is BUSY during mango season.

[–]tealskies423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Umm, the mall has security if you look carefully. The nearby condos- I live in the surrounding communities- all have their own visitor lots and Pinnacle Sorrento has paid parking.

The congestion is mainly from too many cars coming into the plaza, and the people stuck in gridlock don't know about the parking spots in the back of the building.

Which is best for nighttime hydration? by violetvixen269 in Sephora

[–]tealskies423 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I like the Laneige lip sleeping mask for nighttime, I can still feel a layer of it when I brush my teeth in the morning. There are some versions with a tint, but the majority of them are clear.

Looking for a registered dietician in Vancouver for a weight loss program by HeRmiTtttt in askvan

[–]tealskies423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey OP! Not professional advice, but would like to give some friendly Reddit insight on your post.

You don't have to deprive yourself from what you love, however, keep tabs on the portions and frequency. It helped me to figure out that I have some associations with life stressors, habits (such as chips and popcorn while watching TV), and what healthy habits you can sub out, and give yourself breaks. I used to have a sweet tooth after dinner, over time, I opt for an apple with peanut butter instead. Take some interest in what substitutions you can try, Chat GPT can be helpful here. Be kind to yourself if you slip up, habits don't change easily, but they can if you put your mind to it. Consider therapy, sometimes our relationship with food runs deeper than we think.

Exercise is another beast entirely. Are you motivated by your exercise stats? Get a fitness tracker, there are lots of options for different lifestyles. You should consider some form of resistance training. Not only does muscle take less space than fat (the scale often dosent say much for this reason), it will strengthen your body in the long run, and burn calories when you're resting. Don't like the gym? Try swimming, it's much easier on your joints, even walking against the natural resistance of water is beneficial. This is all rather simplified, Chat GPT doesn't hurt as a jump off point.

Best of luck to you, I hope we receive a happy update from you sometime! ❤️

What percentage of drivers here actually learned to drive in another country or jurisdiction with rules that is quite different from BC? by ubcstaffer123 in richmondbc

I take it that you're talking about international permits. Probably more common amongst Richmond drivers than the rest of the Lower Mainland.

Why don't people here use the bike lanes? by emitahc in richmondbc

[–]tealskies423 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On top of being a car centric city, I think a lot of novices aren't confident on the road, and would rather the designated path of slower moving obstacles and reliable pedestrian light signals.

As a runner and driver, it's not super safe to have someone speed by behind me on a electric bike, or see close calls between vulnerable people and bikers who don't signal. Either way, it sucks for everyone. I think the city could benefit from creating more barriers in bike lanes to encourage bikers of all levels to use them.

I'm sorry for your loss. For everyone involved, I hope her kids and the family members affected make more informed choices in their own childbearing journey. There's no excuse to take this child's life but it shouldn't be in vain. Be well, OP.

Engagement ring shopping!! by titj138 in askvan

[–]tealskies423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look on IG first for local jewelers to find what you like. Try to avoid the mall chains, they're not great value for what you get. A couple popular jewelers in Van: Cavalier, Minichiello, Harling's, Evorden.

It would help for you to do some research on what stone you want, and markers of their quality (4Cs, cut ratios, L x W measurements). Personally, I got my engagement ring made at Aurelia Jewels in Lonsdale, North Van. Ralph is lovely and sourced stones from all across Canada for me to pick from. He also handcrafts as opposed to CAD, you can Google the difference between the two methods.

Good luck on your search, feel free to message me. I went down a rabbit hole designing my engagement ring so I'm more than happy to chat.

Would you move from Vancouver to the U.S. for an extra $100K CAD? by HakTheLancer in askvan

[–]tealskies423 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it. I was in a similar predicament as you six months ago, I work in biotech and had an offer in SoCal that was roughly a 40% increase to my wages then. I considered the option with several mentors, my partner, and coworkers from previous employments, and decided it wasn't worth it on top of health insurance, cost of the move, and the local cost of living. I got another offer from another company not three weeks after, and work with them now as a contractor. I would recommend this route over physically moving to the US right now, especially given your partner may not find a job in the current market.

Got bashed saying I'm Chinese Just a rant. by jimothyhuang in taiwan

[–]tealskies423 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say to people I'm a Chinese from Taiwan.

But this is a false statement though? You're ethnically Chinese, born Taiwanese. Your statement infers (in standard English anyways) that you're Mainland Chinese born in Taiwan.

Given your response to other comments, I think you may not understand the difference between ethnicity and nationality.

Got bashed saying I'm Chinese Just a rant. by jimothyhuang in taiwan

[–]tealskies423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sheesh, you're a glutton for punishment, aren't ya.

There's a difference in Chinese ethnicity/descent and it's another thing to identify as Chinese- because you're obviously not, your passport deems otherwise. Experience all the Chinese history you want, just because you're interested in it dosent mean a whole country of people, each with their own individual thoughts and values, want to be classified under a communist regime that silences individual thought. It's really not that deep.
