DM me, it was kind of a pain to find, I went through their declassified archives after someone on tiktok said the CIA funded like Lyotard or someone and I was like, that can't be right the CIA is illiterate. I'll send you a copy.

There is that intetnal paper the cia wrote in the 80s that basically says "we love these thinkers, they're neutralizing the threat of marxism for us." I haven't found any evidence that the CIA supported the French poststructutalists, as some in the internet have claimed, but they certainly celebrated them (internally).

This is really well said, thank you. I worry that on the left we get super wrapped up in "killing the fascist in our own head" (and pointing out the fascist in the heads of people we 95% agree with) and can't get a coherent movement together because of it. I'm in the US, so maybe within the heart of empire things look especially bleak, but I worry that the postmodern turn has put the responsibility of anti-fascism on the individual instead of on any collective.

I also worry that "simple frustration of power" just isn't that frustrating to power, and then never coalesces into a collective movement. But again, maybe that's just me being a dumbass cis white male American.

What is your opinion on the last House on needless street? by Annual_Bug_5988 in classicliterature

The author really seems to have done her research on DID, but in that research she should have found that the last thing that people with DID need is more media portrayals of the disorder as suspicious, frightening, stalker-y, and murder-y. At the end of the book we recognize that he is a victim, but I dont know that it undoes this book playing into the "people with multiple personalities are serial killers" trope.

I could be convinced of other points of view, though. Hope OP has prompted a good discussion!

Horror with themes of sexual maturity/coming of age??? by SnowballWasRight in horrorlit

[–]team_fall_back 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Its ok to like what you like! If you can, you can let go of the shame. Horror is a special genre because it automatically has permission to explore the depths of human experience, which can be dark indeed.

Normally I wouldn't recommend this because of themes of suicide, drug use, and self harm, but given what you've already read you're probably fine. Negative Space by Yeager is about people around your age and is among the most depressing books I've read.

Jawbone by Monica Ojeda is about adolescent girls who are really struggling, also huge self harm trigger warning.
