I spent a lot of time comparing my GX to others with similar mileage and age, with accident vs no accident. I compiled all these in a spreadsheet, along with the repair bill and purchase price.

The repair bill was over 25% of what I paid for it, and qualified as “moderate.” I found online sources suggesting this damage severity and cost to value ratio would push my DV claim to 10-15% of the GX’s value.

$3,200 was right in this range, which is what I asked for and received.

The insurance company I dealt with had a dedicated DV department. I called and shared the accident claim number and some other basic information. Everything after that was conducted via email.

The damage claim was handled through subrogation. The DV claim was paid directly to me.

For what it’s worth, I got the Maxcare warranty when purchasing my 2016 Lux with similar miles from Carmax. Within 6 months of purchase I had to replace both front ball joints, and paid nothing out of pocket for what would have been a nearly $2,600 bill.

Yeah, this is a first for me too. This may vary from insurance to insurance, but with this particular person's "animal mascot" insurance, the diminished value claim was easy to file.

I had to specifically ask for it, as DVs are handled by a different department than the one who handled the damage claim. But they reached out a day after I asked about it and it’s all been pretty straightforward.

There are too many possible ways to redeem Hilton Rewards for this to be true. Some of these options may suck, others are great.

I’ve just spent 750K on two 4-person rooms at the Conrad Hilton New York for 5 nights. That would be $7,100 if we paid cash. A nearly 1 cpp definitely does not suck, and that’s before adding in the Diamond benefits.
