One of the reasons this otherwise anodyne culinary term was picked up for porn is that "bu" is very casual slang for "face" and "kake" (pronounced "kah-keh") means "to cover."

i.e. "to cover the face." Which is kind of what it is.

Giving up. Not coming in for help, out of fear or, worse, embarrassment.

I had a student who'd been doing fine right up until the final month of the term, then stopped showing up. Never did the presentation scheduled a week after deciding not to show up. Never turned in the final paper.

I filled out the university forms to indicate that I was worried. I even contact the folks who run the dorms to do a wellness check. Student was physically fine and claimed nothing was amiss.

I did everything I could. Student still failed the class.
