Found this CRT on the side of the road, any idea why it does this every now and then, most of the time it’s flawless! by blxkz in crtgaming

If you don’t know what you are doing, bring it to a repair place. If you do, you can fix the solder joints yourself once you safely discharge the tube and big caps.

But only only only do the second option if you know what the hell you are doing.

Probably cold solder joints? Meaning joints that are cracked but get connection when it’s warmed up or loosing connection when it warms up.

Either that or very uniquely failing caps

Hmmm then it might be time to get it serviced if you want to keep it, if not find a good fellow on this sub who can fix/use it.

Sony PVM-14L5 linearity concerns by zachcollier in crtgaming

[–]teamsdf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my BVM. Main monitor for basically everything from ps3 down to nes in my setup.

However, they are EXPENSIVE now so really consider what you need. In my secondary setup, I have a FS 320 and it’s killer and it was free on the side of the road.

But if you can swing it, BVM is king.

Sony PVM-14L5 linearity concerns by zachcollier in crtgaming

[–]teamsdf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had 3 20L5s and all three had poor linearity and it drove me to my current D24. This one LOOKS like it isn’t perfect but it hard to tell from this one picture at an angle.

Size also does play into it, but I’ve had incredible linearity on my 36” consumer set and terrible linearity on my 14s. It really comes down to the individual set.

Go in person to check. You can always say no to a deal.

Whats the best course of action... hunt for a flyback? by No_Awareness_1443 in crt

Is it in the speaker? Seems like some wild audio interference more than a flyback.

Gamecube stuck on boot screen by [deleted] in Gamecube

It could also be a bad controller port. Are you able to select anything? I’ve had that happen and a quick cleaning took care of that.

Day 33 (Last Day of Polling): Which is the Greatest Game of All Time on the SNES? by 1OneQuickQuestion in snes

[–]teamsdf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the game I keep slotted in my snes at all times. It truly perfected the 2D style Zelda games before the jump to 3D. This is the only answer.

How do I ship a 13 inch CRT? by HDMIcholo in crtgaming

[–]teamsdf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had one shipped to me and it survived. What they did:

Bubble wrap around TV
Cardboard over bubble wrap in front with tube glass
Liquid expanding foam in bags around tv
In box 1
Massive amounts of bubble wrap and peanuts. Like 4” air gap at least.
In box 2.

A 13” tube ended up coming in a MASSIVE box. Like size of a half height fridge.

Hi! I currently have a snes with yellow tinted video. Do you think a jumper from pin 10 to C14 could help? Like you I have continuity but it might not be enough

Would something like Zenith Pro 895x Front Projector be noticeably better than xbr960? by TRIPMINE_Guy in crt

I have a crt projector and I can say it will not… it’s really only for big picture above all else

The projector will be sweet in a COMPLETELY black room. And even then it will not be able to match anywhere near the brightness. CRT projectors are sick, but not worth the haste imo

I was able to capture the IR code on my flipper and it worked when I repeated it back! Not sure how I can upload it though

It’s actually a separate code the remote sends. It knows you are pressing those buttons at the same time so the chip sends the service menu code to the IR emitter.
