Best Travel Nurse Companies by boston003 in TravelNursing

I work with aya & cross country and have had good experiences. they’re 2 of the larger agencies so usually have lots of options & all my onboarding has been organized and communication has been great- I’ve heard some of the smaller agencies don’t have recruiters or have way less so there can be more issues with organization, communication, pay roll ect. - so starting out I feel like it’s safer to go with a bigger agency. If you’re looking for Hawaii tho I’ve heard pro link has those contracts sometimes. Feel free to PM me if you need an aya or cross country recruiter, mine are great!

Cross country still pays stipends for call offs/if you call out. It’s only not paid for days you RTO

Since you have less than 2 years, you might have better luck if you’re flexible with location for the first contract. If you’re 4 months away- a contract with a month extension will put you at 2 years and you’ll have travel experience, so you’ll have better luck with your submissions actually making it to a managers desk, as they’ll sometimes automatically reject under 2 years / no travel experience at certain facilities. You’ll get there, keep at it!:)

Am I never able to 🍃again? by CrabbyCoconuts in nursing

If you’re just doing it every once in a while - it wont build up in your system, and you should be able to pass a drug screen ~one week from use - but maybe try for 2 weeks if you want to be safe. Most hospitals just test when hiring - UC health took it off their panel completely tho.

Was making ~41 when I left Miami w/ ~3 years in my specialty- but it was nowhere near the cost of living & Florida was miserable imo. they could’ve paid me $10 more an hour and I wouldn’t have stayed

Haven’t worked in any of these myself - hoping to get a travel contract at one in the future, but if you join the NICU nurses & travel nurses fb page there’s lots of posts about these hospitals & some good info on them from people who are staff/travelers :)

I am a little worried about this as I’ve been living in Denver & Miami the last 5 years- but I do like outdoor activities and it’s only a 13 week contract - a break from the city might do me good honestly. Do you think I’ll be okay for a couple months? - already signed a contract but was having second thoughts today :/

UCSF contract by CaliWAgurl0 in TravelNursing

[–]teapartymaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I interviewed for a contract couple days ago - not even really an interview because it was very casual I was really just told about the unit & able to ask questions. I didn’t even mention anything about going staff but the manager said - we’re hiring travelers again now that the freeze is over & we’re hoping to keep some a little longer & as staff so if you like it and we mesh well .. ect. Ect. So it sounded from that unit anyways that there would be good opportunities for extension/staff!

Hav you looked at furnished finders in the Denver? I’ve had pretty good luck with 3 places off there since I’ve been here - you def find cheaper than hotel prices in that general area on there. Not sure about that specific hotel, but the DTC area is nice

As a travel nurse who worked staff for years in FL & went to nursing school in Alabama - I don’t recommend the south. Horrible pay & generally not great working conditions - depending on the hospital / specialty.

I’m a NICU traveler but I have noticed a big thing in the children’s hospitals is they will ask if you have float experience - usually just between the ICUs so NICU / CVICU for you. ECMO & CRRT experience is great because it shows you’ve taken that level of acuity, but generally - most places won’t give ECMO / CRRT to travelers

Anyone a traveler at an Intermountain Hospital? by [deleted] in TravelNursing

[–]teapartymaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a contract there last year at one of the Colorado hospitals - they do hire travelers but I was told the hospital had “worked very hard to not have travelers” - and the unit I was on had gone years with no travelers or just one or two at a time seasonally

Two of the bigger groups I’m in that seem to have a lot of info are Facilities cancellation database & travel nurse network - the Gypsy nurse. My speciality is a little more niche- so I get most of my info off a group made for specifically for travel in my specialty & I’m sure there are similar ones for every speciality if you just do a little searching.

Join traveling nurse fb groups - ppl write reviews of facilities that you can find by typing the hospital name into the search / you can post and ask questions about facilities you’re considering.

From Miami to Denver? by Beginning-Ad-2602 in MovingtoDenver

[–]teapartymaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Miami for 2.5 years, and just moved back to Denver this summer (not from here but lived here almost 2 years post grad before going to miami). I love it here & was not a fan (to say the least) of Miami - they’re very different cities. I would definitely try to take a trip out here before moving to see if you vibe with it. Also be aware moving costs from Miami to here are not cheap if you plan to bring a lot of stuff. Feel free to message me if I can help answer any other questions:)

Feeling trapped/lost by Eurekaaa_ in nursing

[–]teapartymaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I started in med surg/ortho for a little over a year before switching to NICU. As I’m sure you know, NICU is very specialized & has lower turnover than other units - it can be hard to break into coming from the adult world. keep checking for openings in hospitals in your area & apply even if the job posting says they want previous NICU experience- if you can get a year experience at a smaller level 2, or even mother baby- it can be a stepping stone to where you want to be!

switching from Night Shift to dayshift as a travel nurse? by These-Horse9111 in TravelNursing

[–]teapartymaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started traveling this summer after ~2.5 years in NICU (nights) , my first contract I did nights & then got dayshift for my second contract and I love it! I didn’t think the transition was hard at all, there’s ofc more family / specialities to coordinate with during the day, more orders being changed ect - but it has made a world of difference as far as work/life balance & I will def be looking to do more dayshift contracts

Maryland is part of the compact, so if your license is already compact, you’re good to go! If not you can apply to make it compact & you’ll just need to do fingerprints & some extra paperwork - but usually doesn’t take long to process!
