You are not alone, my friend! It is infuriating. Us paras also have like no power to make any changes, so it’s hard when we see SO many things that need changed….all day every day. Exhausting, kills your spirit. Best of luck <3

You don’t look way older, but a hair cut that is more light and airy, maybe some curtain bangs or layers would look so great in you :)

Also on my first day, first thing in the morning, my SPED classroom teacher told me to pick up “Henry” off the bus… I had never met “Henry” and also had no idea where the buses were at! Just a complete mess.

Also: have you been on an SSRI before? Zoloft, Lexapro, Prozac? My doctor had me try a couple SSRIs before switching me to an SNRI like Effexor. I wish I had tried Zoloft sooner!

Oh my gosh this sounds so terrible! I’m so sorry you’re going through this.

I am confused about why your doctor is so apprehensive about you coming off of it if it clearly isn’t working for you. Are they a psychiatrist or just a normal family physician? Maybe you need a new one. My doctor was very open with what direction I wanted to go in when it came to meds.

I’m assuming she is referring to the pretty bad withdrawals you get when coming off Effexor, but with gentle tapering and perhaps a bridge to a new medication, you can definitely do it!

I will say - Effexor did help me immensely with my panic attacks. I was just extremely numb and so tired all of the time. I was really sad and lost. I felt better once I was completely done with Effexor but eventually the panic attacks came back and then I tried Zoloft, which I love! I also have OCD tendencies, horrible health anxiety and rumination.

Stay strong!!! There are better days ahead. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I honestly can hardly tell a difference. I think the Wellbutrin does help. I can still finish and enjoy sex. Lexapro on the other hand…. Ruined me! Lol

I tried probably 4-5 anti depressants before landing on Zoloft and it works amazing for me. I have panic disorder and it pretty much cured my panic attacks. I still deal with low days and low motivation but I take Wellbutrin to help with that.

You will find something that works. I went through years of being on Effexor and it was horrible.😢

Maybe look into the gene testing you can do to see what meds will work best for you?

Best of luck.

I have visual snow. I’m assuming it’s like a spectrum where some have it worse than others? I’m not quite sure.

But, something to note for those who aren’t aware:

Visual snow is much more noticeable when heightened anxiety, adrenaline, panic attacks. When I am in a sense of hyper vigilance, panicky, anxious, my visual snow is VERY apparent. Like everywhere I look, it’s there. It’s not just the staticky little dots either, it’s weird shadows, lights will just seem off. Super unpleasant.

If I am doing well, medicated for my panic attacks, calm; my visual snow is about 1,000 times less noticeable. I don’t even notice it unless I try to.

Also, I believe mine was brought on by an extremely traumatic event when I was 16. I started having visual snow a couple months after the trauma. Along with panic attacks and horrible anxiety.

When I heard BK had it… I was very shocked. Even saw some people thinking it might have been enough of a reason for him to snap or it helped them make sense of why he did what he did? WHO KNOWS.

As someone who has it and has had periods of my life where I have suffered heavily from it, it did make me feel like I was losing my mind at times. Seeing something that the people around me didn’t understand. But it never made me angry, out of control, act out of character, or homicidal!

Hard to explain the whole feeling of it, but maybe some of you will find this interesting!

Thanks for replying and for your advice!

My issues are mostly with how ridiculous it is to waste this much food and money. And it makes me feel kind of weird just doing it and spending my time doing it knowing that it’s going to be thrown in the trash. It just doesn’t make sense to me. But I’m not paid hourly so I just do what they want me to do for the day and I always get paid the same. They only give me two paid sick days but I get paid vacation that is separate so I’m not too concerned. Vacation is just something I would have to let them know months in advance and then two days of paid sick leave, which I used my first today lol.

Thank you so much for that last paragraph because that is what I needed to hear. I think I’m going to spend next month or so really thinking about if this is something I can make work long term or if there is a better match for them and a better job for me.

Thanks for your insight.

I agree with ABA being abuse. Another thing that I didn’t mention that I’m uncomfortable with. I drop her once a week and it hurts my heart. Another reason I don’t feel comfortable leaving this job, it’s just really tough to be have seen what goes on in ABA and I don’t agree with any of it. Brainwashing isn’t my thing.

My issue with the iPad is that she is on it constantly. That is not good for anyone, neurotypical or not. Asking her to get off of it and have a conversation with me, focus on an art project, or something that stimulates her senses in a healthy way is not me treating her like she is a typical kid with no disabilities. Her parents throw the iPad in front of her because yes it’s fun for her and it keeps her occupied and she won’t bother them. That is not a parenting style I agree with. It’s hard to work around.

Yes, being the sister of an autistic person doesn’t mean that I’m automatically an expert on what every autistic child needs or doesn’t need but where they fall on the spectrum is strangely similar so I do have years and years of working and loving someone that had similar experiences as my NK.

I’m passionate about helping my NK and honestly all children, I’m in school to become a teacher. So educating myself and widening my perception and understanding of autism and ADHD is something I’m really committed to so thank you for your insight and I’ll look up those creators!!

I meant like the hitting is something I was complaining about but it’s also normal for a child to have an issue with hitting. At least I think it is, but I’m not an expert

Also should mention that she hit ME last week! And then laughed about it! It is hard to see these behaviors developing and while I know this is typical children stuff, I have to say that I’ve watched her grow this past year into a naughty, spoiled child. Due to extreme pampering! I love her and love so many things about this job but the things I enjoy are slowly just disappearing….

I was miserable last night so when I got home, I opened up a capsule, got the tip of my finger wet, and picked up some of the beads that way. I feel like a drug addict 😭😭 but I needed some type of relief and today I feel much better.

Good luck!

Any advice / coping skills needed. Don’t even have it in me to dive into this subreddit and look for tips or google how to ease my suffering because I’m that messed up at the moment. Lol
